RDVH Virtual Desktops loosing network connectivity

I have a RDS Pooled Windows 7 Enterprise virtual desktop collection running on a 2 node Hyper-V 212 R2 failover cluster.

Every now and then we see an issue where a user (or users) are disconnected from their Virtual Desktop and get the standard RDP client reconnection attempt, counting up to 20 before giving up.

Looking at the virtual desktop status in Server Manager > Remote Desktop Services > Collections the Connection status is ‘Disconnected’

I then try to ping the hostname of the Virtual desktop and get no reply.

If I then edit the VM config in Hyper-v manager and change the Virtual NIC from ‘VM Network’ to Not Connected then back to ‘VM network’ then the VM immediately starts responding to ping. The user is then able to log back into the desktop via RDWeb.

This happens across both nodes and effects a random number of users each time (i.e. sometimes just one user/ VM and other times 3 or 4, sometimes across both nodes, sometimes just on one.

I have checked the Event logs on both Hyper-V nodes (standard Application & System logs plus the Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-v-xxx application and services logs) and can see nothing of node logged.

Checking the event logs on the Windows 7 Virtual Desktops only shows standard can’t contact a domain controller / outlook can’t contact exchange etc type messages and nothing that gives a clue.

Can anyone suggest how I start troubleshooting this?
