I am currently talking to my 14th person at Microsoft to try and do something that should be simple- install RDS CALs on on a 2008 R2 server. The server was licensed for 2012 but installed with downgrade rights to 2008 R2. The CALs, which can only be purchased
as 2012 RDS, will not work. You are supposed to call the Microsoft Clearinghouse to get the keys to enter in the server. I give them the server ID and license key. They say there is an error and transfer me to technical support. Technical support wants to
charge me in order to make their license keys work! It's an absolute joke. The problem is that the joke is on Microsoft customers. I've now spent over 7 hours on the phone with people who barely speak English who want to continually pass the buck.
