How do I backup my RDWeb setup?

Hi All,

I have an RDWeb setup that is working beautifully for our company. It consists of the following:

  • One Windows 2012 R2  Connection Broker/Gateway/Web Server/License Manager
  • Two Windows 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Hosts

We are not using VDI, only the RemoteApps portion so that users can remote in and access company resources from either remote offices or from home.

I have put a great deal of time into getting our setup fully functional. The folks at my job have become very dependent on it and it has become essential for our users' day to day operations.

My question is, how do I now backup this setup and put a disaster recovery method in place?

For example, what if one of the RD Hosts became unstable and no one is able to log onto it? Sure I can remove it from the farm, rebuild the server and put it back into the rotation. But what about those 150 user profiles that were on it? How do I save myself some time and avoid rebuilding all of those user profiles for each and every single user? Is there a method that anyone knows of where I could copy over the profiles from the neighboring RD Host in the setup along with corresponding profile registry keys?

What about the Connection Broker/Gateway/Web Server/License Manager? These roles are all installed on one server, heaven forbid if that server became unstable and inoperable, what then?

Any thoughts from personal experience on how to address these concerns are greatly appreciated, thank you!
