Hello there,
I'm currently deploying a RDS architecture for a customer in our datacenter and we are wondering about the licensing.
Our scenario may be quite unusual :
- We have 2 domains with an external trust :
- 1 "Customer" domain & 1 "Datacenter" domain
- "Datacenter" domain trusts "Customer" domain (one-way trust)
- "Datacenter" domain is dedicated to this specific customer
- "Customer" domain hosts a RDS license server with "Per-User" RDS CALs, but we can't use it as we don't have two-way trust
- We'll buy XX "Per-User" RDS CALs on Datacenter side for our admins
- Users from "Customer" domain will need to access to "Datacenter" domain through RDS server (in "Datacenter" domain)
Question is : Should we buy RDS CALs for users/admins from "Customer" domain or will they be considered as licensed by the RDS CALs hosted on the customer RDS license server ?
I mean legally, as on technical side, I assume that a CAL will be used if the RDS license server doesn't know the user.
Please feel free to comment if you need additional information, and thanks in advance for any answer or feedback.
Regards.
