2008 R2 RDS License events 1128 and 1130 but no problems detected

Hi All,
I have a setup with an RDS licensing server on a DC in a separate network. Currently when trying to login to the RDS host as a user we get a message "The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license.".

We also get a warning balloon when logging in as admins on the RDS host that says "No Remote Desktop license server is available. Remote Desktop Services will stop workingbecause this computer is past its grace period and has not contacted at least a valid Windows Server 2008 license server." It recommends using Licensing Diagnosis.

Here is the strange part - the server has been specified in Licensing Diagnosis in the Session Host Configuration tool and is listed as available with 500 licenses and a nice green tick saying "Licensing Diagnosis did not identify any licensing problems for the Remote Desktop Session Host server."

The RDS boxes can ping the license server and the time is in sync between the systems. They are normal functioning members of the domain (there is another DC which is on the same subnet as these particular RDS hosts).

I've done a bit of reading on these message and events in event log including error 1128 and warning 1130 in the System log and some material mentions the X509 Certificate entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM. I'm not sure what the significance is but 2 working hosts have these entries and 2 non-working hosts don't have them.

Could someone point me in the right direction? I'm really puzzled by the indication in the console that everything is fine.

Thanks
