Users are unable to connect with RDS host

Hi

We have deployed a remote desktop 2012 R2 setup using a single server. this server has rd connection broker, session host and web access as per the standard deployment option for remote desktop services. in addition we installed the rd licensing and installed rds per user CAL.

Currently we are facing an issue where users are unable to connect to the server using either the DNS-record or IP-address of the server.

We have verified that no firewall is blocking access by removing any third party security suites and disabled windows firewall. No change.

In the event log we are getting these log entries:

"Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker

User: DOMAIN\User

Error: Remote Desktop Connection Broker is not ready for RPC communication.

EventID: 1296"

In the terminalservices-remoteconnectionmanager operational log we have this entry:

"Remote Desktop Services: User authentication succeeded:

User:
Domain:
Source Network Address: 1.1.1.1

"

This entry has a blank username and a blank domain, but it has the correct public ip-address that tried to connect.

Searching online for the event id and error indicates that there is a network connection issue between the session host and the connection broker. This is highly unlikely as it is the same instance of Windows Server 2012 R2, which is fully updated.

In this state not even the administrator can connect to and RD Session and we have to use direct console access in order to reboot the server and with that restore access.

We have other servers with the exact same configuration and no issues are there. What could be the reason for this behaviour?
