RDS Broker 2012 R2 High Availability : is Failover Cluster still an option ?

Hello all,

I've been looking for information on this but couldn't find it anywhere, so here I go.

I want to know if the "old" way of providing HA for the RDS broker role is still supported (RDSH servers behind, no VDI) ?

Can we still make it highly available using a failover cluster, in an active/passive set up ?

I am aware of the new way of doing it, with an SQL database behind it, but for several reasons it is not ideal :

1- adding a SQL server adds complexity and more skills needed to maintain the plateforme. And license cost.

2- as long as the SQL server isn't highly available itself, it isn't truly highly available. So SQL HA needed, which again adds complexity. And license cost again.

For big deployments the added cost/complexity can be justified, but right now I am designing a small (30 users) RDS platform and it's really not worth it IF the old, simple way (failover cluster) is still available.

Thanks for the help !

Mathieu
