User Profile Disk Corruption

$

Hello,

We had a serious issue with UPDs in our environment and I'm really just testing the water to see if we were extremely unlucky, or there is inherent problems with UPDs.

The scenario is as follows:

We have a single RDS server. The Collection on this server is configured to use UPDs which are stored on a separate server. One morning, we had a full BSOD on the RDS server due, we think, the a lack of available RAM. In any case, after the RDS server rebooted from the BSOD, we discovered that all users who were connected to the server when it fell over were being logged on with a temporary profile. On closer inspection, we observed that there was a c:\users\%username% folder for all of these users, but when they logged in, they were actually being dumped into a c:\users\%username%TEMP folder instead.

We consulted the Event Viewer where we observed a ntuser.dat error for every single user. Of course the ntuser.dat resides on the UPDs and it soon became evident that every single user who was connected to the RDS server when it fell over ended up with a corrupt ntuser.dat hive.

Any thoughts? Has anyone seen anything similar to this? It was a very time consuming restoring all the UPDs from the previous night's backup and I am worried that the UPD concept is perhaps not as resilient as I would have thought.

Thanks in advance.

event 1028 The remote session could not be established from remote desktop client 1% because its license could not be renewed.

Hello,

having issues with users being disconnected from a win2008r2 terminal server.  We are using per user cals and have plenty, however I've started to see users being disconnected for a few minutes at a time resulting in the error message in the title.

event 1028 The remote session could not be established from remote desktop client 1% because its license could not be renewed.

Whats interesting is the error message is stating in the EventData section below

"Example Computer name"Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per Device CAL Token.

We are not using a per device CAL model!!

Licensing is set to "per user" on both the TS server and Licensing server. Diagnostics on the terminal server and the licensing server report no issues.  I can see no communication problems or issues between the TS and licensing box.

The error message is being generated for users connecting to terminal services via thin client and PC so I'm thinking this is not a registry issue on the client PC as reported by some forums.  Any ideas?

Deploy forced Wallpaper on RDS2012 R2

second RDP Session to the same Farm-Member fails

Hello,

I have found out a strange behavior in my RDP-Farm.

This is my environment:
RDP-Sessionhost 1: 192.168.0.1
RDP-Sessionhost 2: 192.168.0.2
RDP-Sessionbroker: 192.168.0.3
Farm-Name: WTS-Broker
DNS-Roundrobin configured for the farm name
All Servers are W2K8R2 with current Updates installed.

Now to my problem:
User A makes a RDP-Session to the farm name “wts-broker” with his personal user account. He is landing on Sessionhost 2. Now User A starts a new rdp connection from his session on sessionhost 2 with a different user account to the same RDP-Farm. This time DNS Round Robin points the RDP Connection to Sessionhost 1 but the load balancing decides to redirect back to Sessionhost 2 where the initial request comes from. In this scenario the RDP connection fails: “
Remote desktop cannot verify that this server belongs to the same server farm.

Unfortunately I only have the screenshot of this error message in German.

Did anyone encountered that Problem before and knows how to fix this?

Many thanks in advance for your answers.

Mac RDC 2.1.0 will not display radio buttons for a program build on VB 6

Just upgraded some of our users to RDC 2.1.0 for Mac (upgrading from RDC for Mac beta 2.0), on Macs running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and are having the some issues with radio buttons. We connect to Terminal Servers running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2, through a Cisco VPN client. No radio buttons will show up on a program built on VB 6. We did get them to appear briefly, however we were jumping back and forth between a windows RDC and a Mac RDC, and have not been able to replicate since. I have changed every setting in preferences, under display settings, to get them to be visible, however nothing seems to work. Seems to just be happening on a VB 6 based application (which displayed the radio buttons fine when we were using the RDC 2.0 beta version). Web applications seem to be working fine, but for this program all radio buttons are invisible. They are still there, and can be selected if a user clicks on the name of the radio button, but there is no visual to indication that they actually exist.

RDS 2012 Remote App Active Window not coming to the front

We are working with RDS 2012 and publishing a remote App.  The App has many windows that open within it and a few windows into their session the active window stops coming to the front.  Since this window opens behind the old window the user thinks the app locks up.  If they click off to the side and then open the Remote App window back the windows does come to the front, but this cannot be a solution.

We have tried changing the HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ForegroundFlashCount to 3

and the HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ForegroundLockTimeout  to 0

Anybody else encountered this?

Failed to create KVP sessions string. Error Code 0x8007007A

I have two RDS servers running Server 2012, and since a couple of days users are reporting they get disconnected often. In the eventlogs, I found a couple of events where a user was disconnected without further information. I also found a lot of "Failed to create KVP sessions string" events. I couldn't find any relevant information about this event, but it appears the most at moments when users are being disconnected from the RDS server.

This is the event:

Slow login with RDWeb applications and RemoteApps

$

Hello,

I'm having a problem with a newly created 2008 R2 RDS Farm. Full desktop logins are fast for remote users (under 10 seconds), but RemoteApps and RDWeb apps take about 30 seconds to load (once loaded, subsequent apps load in 2-3 seconds). The details button is greyed out for about 25 seconds while waiting for the app to load and then when it is finally becomes enabled, the app loads in about 3 seconds.

The RDS setup consists of:

1 Gateway server
1 Connection Broker/License server
2 Session Host/RDWeb servers

I have tried the following:

-Unchecking "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses" under the session host settings in RemoteApps manager on both session host servers
-Disabling UAC on all servers (oddly enough this seemed to increase the login time)
-Disabling client device redirection

Nothing has improved the speed. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Debug Assertion Failed: sockcore.cpp, line 623

Both the (1) RDLoadSimulationClient.exe and (2) RDLoadSimulationServerAgent.exe exhibits this error when supplying the connection info (1-client to server, 2-server to controller).

What is the assertion being made at line 623?

RDWeb - HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

Hi all,

I have configured RDS in my single host hyper-v environment as follows.

- RDS-A-01 = RDWeb & Broker

- RDS01 = session host 1

- RDS02 = session host 2

- collection type: session

- domain users have access to the collection

When I try and hit the URL that I see in the deployment properties for RD Web Access I get the following error in IE..

Service Unavailable: HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

I suspect this is some kind of IIS issue, I have done an iisrest and all the basics but still get the error.

I am also wondering if the self signed cert I created has something to do with this?

I just cannot get it working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What licenses for VDI do we need in our case?

$

We plan to implement VDI. There will be two RD virtualization hosts running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and two Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard hosts with Hyper-V role installed running infrastructure services (AD DS, DHCP, DNS, etc.) in virtual machines. We plan to create 120 pooled desktops running Windows 8.1. Our users use Linux based thin clients to access VDI. So what licenses do we need to purchase?

As far as I understand, we need:

  • 2 x Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard licenses
  • 120 VDA licenses
  • 120 RDS CAL
  • 120 Server CAL
  • 120 Windows 8.1 licenses

Is that right? That looks way too expensive in compare with Session-based RDS (old terminal server).

remoteapps not working - session just dies

Hi ! After upgradig from Windows 7 ultimate to winodws 10 pro i can't get Windows remoteapps to work. I'm using a rdp file to open the remoteapp and the connection first gets established but after entring user credentials the remote Desktop session just dies! No remoteapp is opening on the Client side and the remote desktop session windows just disappears. There are also not fault or error Messages shown. login on the remote host by just using a remote Desktop session works fine. I've tested this now again with just setting up a simple remoteapp link that opens the Notepad.exe on the remote machine. This works fine on Windows 7 but now i have issues with Windows 10 Any help on this would be much appreciated Cheers here's the content of my remoteapp rdp file to start the Notepad.exe as a remoteapp:

COM Port redirection on Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop

$

I have a Windows 2012 R2 Standard server which is acting as an application server. It's running on VMware 5.5. There's another 2012 R2 server instance-domain controller-running as another VM.

Users connect into it using RDP from Windows 7 PCs. One user has a debit card PinPad that connects to one of the PCs via COM1 serial port. This PinPAD used to pass-through to the old terminal server, but the new server does not see it on any of its COM ports.

On the server I have made sure that the OU containing the terminal server has all of the "Disable redirection..." settings DISABLED, and I also set that on the default domain policy.

The client has the appropriate boxes checked to forward local devices in the RDP session shortcut.

This system has a credit card swiper that connects via USB and that works properly.

I did some searching and found a few articles related to this on 2008 but didn't directly help.

Thanks in advance for any help!

How to find RDS "farm Name "

Hi

I am getting bellow error message while accessing my RDS server. Please help me to find out "Farm name

[Window Title]
Remote Desktop Connection

[Content]
Remote Desktop Connection cannot connect to the remote computer.

The remote computer Jet-ABC123.ABC.asp that you are trying to connect to is redirecting you to another remote computer named Jet-ABC124.ABC.asp. Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify that the computers belong to the same RD Session Host server farm. You must use the farm name, not the computer name, when you connect to an RD Session Host server farm.

If you are using an RDP connection provided to you by your
administrator, contact your administrator for assistance.

If you want to connect to a specific farm member to administer it, type "mstsc.exe /admin" at a command prompt.

RDP (Remote Desktop) to Windows 10 without passwords not possible anymore. Bug or feature?

$

After upgrading two of my machines to Windows 10 (Education N clean install and Pro N upgrade from Win8.1), I was not able to set up Remote Desktop as I was used to since Windows 7 (maybe this was possible before, too).

I am used to configure Windows to allow RDP connections as a user without password (home usage only). Apparently this is not working anymore after upgrading to Windows 10. (I have enabled this by modifying secpol.msc 's security policies. Further informations provided if needed).

With the "no password" setup i get immediatly disconnected by the local machine which seems to auto login by itself after connecting via RDP. The only solution I managed to find so far was to set up a password.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Cheers

You must change password before logging on the first time - Windows 2012 R2

Hi,

We deployed new Windows 2012 R2 domain. All the domain controllers and member servers are Windows 2012 R2. One of the member server is RDP license server. Created new users and set the option "user must change password at first logon". However, when user tries to connect any of the member servers they  get the below message. I searched in internet and found various solution like disabling NLA, "negotiate" RDP connection, setting low level encryption and so on. I tried various combination (RDP settings) in GPO domain policy, but none helped. Please help in fixing the issue.

Deployed printers wont stay set as default

Using RDS 2012 R2 server, we are deploying 4 or so printers via group policy.

When a user sets them to default printer and logs off, when they log back on the default has changed to another non mapped printer (local printer).

Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session is enabled in GPO.

Tested the same outcome on a 2008 r2 non rds server as well.

Remote Desktop Redirected Printer documents keep spooling whenever an RDP connection is opened.

As soon as an RDP connection is made the spooler starts getting bogus jobs called "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer.doc"
I say bogus because they don't print anything.. they simply show up on the spooler and after a few seconds dissapears but nothing prints.. this keeps hapenning as long as the RDP connection is active.
altough anoying this doesn't seem to be an issue if the printer is online, but offline printers keep increasing the list.. Just deleted over 24k pending documents..
Unnaceptable.
Altough I've seen numerous forums with users with the problem, I haven't found a solution yet.. From Microsoft or anyone at all.
Clearing the checkmark for the printers option from the RDP options clears the problem but that's not an acceptable solution since I need to print.
I'm RDPing fom a WinXP machine to a Win2003 Server.

"The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated." and " Attempt to send connect message to Windows video subsystem failed. The relevant status code was 0xd0000001."

Hello,

We have a customer in Mexico who is RDPing into one of our hosted servers via a VPN tunnel.  One of the users (primary user) is experiencing issues with logging on multiple times before accessing the desktop of the server.  The person has kept a log of the logon incidents and they coincide with Application and Services errors that are logged on the server.  Below are the error we are seeing:
