Hi.

Ive got a server running windows server 2008 r2 standard.  Internet explorer 8 is installed and now outdated.

This server is running terminal services for all the users over the lan.  What is the best way to install internet explorer 11

and deploy to all the users.

Would installing it on the server automatically update the users internet explorer?

RD Client display connection bar

Hello all,

I have configured the connection bar settings on my virtual desktop collection with the following code:

Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName NAME -CustomRdpProperty "displayconnectionbar:i:0" -ConnectionBroker BROKER

If I connect through my rdweb page the desired result is achieved. However if I use the rd client app provided in the windows store:

the connection bar is still there. Is there a different setting that the rd client application needs to have so I can remove the connection bar?

Thanks,

RDP issues, remote computers requires network level authentication

$

Hi,

First of all, please note this:

  • Network level authentication IS supported on all machines as per theAbout Remote Desktop Connection. So please don't ask me to check this on the about remote desktop connection window.
  • All clients are set per GPO to use the Remote Setting of the "more secure" option:
  • The problem is on random machines, all windows 7. We only have a few windows 10 machines but no issues found on those so far.
  • It doesn't matter if the RDP connection is initiated from a windows 7, windows 10 or Windows Server 2012 R2. The problem remains and is exactly the same.
  • The problem exists when attempting to connect RDP from personal home PCs (not managed by company GPOs and MS update schedules) over VPN

So the problem is this, first comes the first message and then the second.

It seems to have started after we deployed some Microsoft server updates, but its very inconsistent, some sites seems worse off then others, but its not all machines at any site. We haven't even done client updates yet.

Again, please don't give me a link to an old post or blog saying that I need to enable network level authentication, as shown by the top screenshot, it is already enabled/supported.

I already spent hours googling this. Please, I want responses from people who have actually had the exact same symptoms and issues or someone who has an idea that I haven't already clearly stated that I've checked above already.

Thank you.

Accessing RemoteApps from Computer outside of the LAN

Alright, so I've recently just setup my own RD Web Access and RD Session Host servers. I published some RemoteApps and set up the RD Web Access server to where there is no issues in connectivity when accessing it through its own LAN. My predicament is being able to access the published RemoteApps from another computer that's outside the network. Here's what happens when trying to access the RemoteApps from an outside network:

I can connect to the RD Web Access server, but I have to use this subdomain that I created for remoting into this computer. So, let's say I port forwarded and set up for my external IP to be recognized by the internet as chickens.lovelybusiness.net where"chicken" is my subdomain. That's what I would put into remote desktop connection in order to connect to the computer. Now, I set up the RD Web Access server and the RD Session Host server on the same computer as the computer that's recognized as chickens.lovelybusiness.net. Now, all I should have to do after setting up the servers is just type in computername.chickens.lovelybusiness.net. However, if I type that in, nothing comes up, but if I just type in the chickens.lovelybusiness.net,I can login to the server and see the apps.

Next is the thing that puzzles me, I can see and download the RemoteApps just fine, but as soon as I try to run them, this error pops up.

But, if I go into notepad, open the rdp session I just downloaded to run the app and change the workspace ID and the full address to my external IP address, this error pops up in its place.

Now, I enabled remote connections to all the servers just in case without them needing NLA just to see if that would cause a problem. I also open ports 443, 3389, 80, 49152, and 53 opened so I know that isn't the problem. But as of right now, I'm stumped. All I want to accomplish is to be able to access the published RemoteApps from outside that network.

Any answers or advice would be HIGHLY appreciated.

Time Zone error message

Hello

We are experiencing an issue with our Win 2012 R2 RDS setup.  We are using this to run Dynamics NAV for a number of locations.  Just adding our Sweden location but we are having a problem with Swedish users when trying to switch databases.  They receive the following error message:

'The time zone with ID 'vasteuropa, normaltid' was not recognised on the server.  Update your computers time zone definitions'

We had exactly the same issue with our 2008 RDS system and the following hotfix resolved the issue:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2870165

The hotfix does not mention Win 2012 and I could not find anything for 2012.  Should I use the same hotfix for 2012?

Has anybody experienced this issue and have a solution?

Thanks

Nick

Remove old RDWeb Feed from Windows 7 RemoteApp Clients

Hello,

I'm moving from Server 2012 RDS farm to a Server 2012R2 RDS Farm with new connection brokers and Session Hosts. I've found the login script here (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/313a95b3-a698-4bb0-9ed6-d89a47eacc72#content) to add new RDS WebFeed to Windows 7 clients and that is working properly.

My question is: Is there any way to remove the old CB WebFeed with the same login script? If not, is there any way to automate the removal of the RDWeb Feed from Windows 7 Clients?

I do'nt want the confusion of two WebFeeds available to end users.

Thanks in advance,

-Scott

Manage RDS Farm without admin rights

Hi all,

I've wrote a powershell script for my devs. With this script, they can logout all users using their application and after execute the patching of the applications.

The problem is that my devs don't have admin rights. They are simple user.

In my script, I use the Get-RDUserSession, Send-RDUserMessage, Invoke-RDUserLogoff, but without admin rights .... it's bullshit.

How can i delegate the right to use this cmdlet to use the script ?

I've found this topic with the same problem but no solution : https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/ada13337-0917-4423-9373-08f85abddb23/nonadmin-users-are-unable-to-manage-rds-2012-r2-sessions?forum=winserverTS

My farm is in 2012r2, 10 RDSH, 2 HA Broker, all roles are splitted on differents virtual server.

Thank you !

External Users with same network range ip can't access RD Host through Remote Desktop Gateway

$

Hello,

I've setup a brand new Windows 2012 R2 server with all the remote desktop services on it (Remote Desktop Gateway, Remote Web Server, Remote Deskop Host & Broker).

The server is on local network behing a router/firewall (single public ip :-( ).

I've got a public certificate on it and NAT is setup on router to redirect tcp 444  to the server internal ip (192.168.0.XXX). I've changed the SSL port from RD Gateway but it was tested with the default SSL port (443) an result was same.

My problem is that client can successfully connect on this server from anywhere locallly and externally (and it works great) except when clients connect from a network that have an identical ip range as the RD server (192.168.0.---). In this case, after first authentication it's seems that client can't reach internal RD server. This is true for Remote Desktop Website (i can log on page but the differents apps will not connect when it tries to reach the RD server) and this is also true for"mstsc" with remote desktop Gateway definied.

I can't find anything revelant in server or client logs and it starts to make me crazy...

It looks like there is a routing trouble when client and server try to communicate and maybe client believe server must be reached locally and bypass the remote gateway because they are on same subnet but not on the same physical network. However it can't be the right way to work of remote gateway...

Thanx in advance for your help (and sorry for my English)

Vince

Gateway RDP 2012r2 SSL - Clients intermittantly disconnected

Hi

Could someone assist with a certain issue I am facing.

I have a server 2012r with Gateway and Broker server roles installed and 2 x session hosts.  Staff are intermittently being disconnected even when they are actively working in the session.

I noticed on the gateway / broker server the following errors in the event logs

Event ID 36874

An TLS 1.2 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites supported by the client application are supported by the server.  The SSL connection request has failed.

Followed by:

Event ID 36888

A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint.  This may result in termination for the connection.  The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 20.  The Windows SChannel error state is 960.

Could these events be related to the intermittent drop out and if so why is this happening.  I am currently using a 3rd party UCC/SAN SSL certificate

Many thanks

Access is Denied - Remote Desktop

$

I have set up my Server (2008 R2 Foundation) for remote desktop and RemoteApp as per the instructions provided by Microsoft.  I am using a single server for all functions.  When a user logs in to the Server through remote desktop, the remote desktop screen comes up and then the user immediately gets an 'Access is Denied' message.  If the user connects through RDWeb, the RemoteApps are displayed, but when the user clicks on an application, they are prompted again for their login credentials and then they get the remote desktop screen with an 'Access is Denied' screen as well.  This happens even for Administrators.

I am getting very frustrated with this as I have read many blogs and tried everything to no avail.  PLEASE help me.

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

Deployment Properties - Select Existing Certificate

We are building a Remote Desktop Services environment using Windows 2012 R2 servers.

What is the significance of "Apply the certificate that is stored on the RD Connection Broker server" option in "Select Existing Certificate" dialog when configuring "Role Service" certificates?

It seems that Remote Desktop Services can be configured using the Server Manager from any domain member server so why the emphasis on RD Connection Broker server?

Thank you in advance.

Basic theme corrupt, black boxes in apps when connected

$

Hi....

On one of our Windows 2012 Remote Desktop Host servers we have the following problem.

--Not working example:

THE PROBLEM

-- Working example:

WORKING

---

So black boxes all over the place. When I troubleshooted this as admin I found that switching the theme to "Windows" under Windows standard theme  made the black boxes go away. But switching to the "Windows Basic" them makes them appear again.

So:

-- How do I fix the basic theme? As this is the theme regular users uses and they have no option of changing theme. RemoteApp technology is used.

-- Or possibly, as I think it works fine with the "Windows" theme, how do I apply this to all users logging in to the server?

Also, I have tried to find a solution on this on the forum, the internet and be general troubleshooting. No errors in the event log in Windows......

Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you in advance.

Unable to login to Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers with Network Level Authentication enabled

Hi,

I have servers running Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2.  When I enable Network Level authentication on those servers I'm unable to RDP to them with a domain account.  Local accounts and domain admin accounts work though.  I get the error message "The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted.  This could be due to an expiring password."  The password is not expired or being forced to change.  If I disable NLA I can login without any issues.

Any ideas?
