Different Session Settings for Administrator

$

Hello Gurus,

I am running RDS on a Windows 2012 R2 machine, and have configured RD Session Host.  According to the Session Collection Settings, all users are disconnected after 30 minutes being idle.  But I would like to make an exception for all users in the Administrators group, which should never be disconnected.

How do I do that?

Thanks,
Mark

The following fatal alert was received: 70

I have a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 which I use as a Remote Desktop Server. Following a reboot the System event logs are full of the following entries "The following fatal alert was received: 40" and "The following fatal alert was received: 70".

I have rebooted again but this hasn't cleared the issue. The server is fully patched.

I have noticed that it coincides with users logging on and logging off.

The Schannel 36887 errors come in a long burst of events preceded by three events.

Can anybody suggest what is causing this?

RDS 2016 Gateway licensing

$

We are planning to use RDS Gateway to control access to different remote support IT teams (around 20 persons) to the Windows infrastructure (some teams have RDP access to some servers, others to another type).

Since this is not a RDS rollout, here's the questions regarding licensing:

  • Do we have to license this. If so, what would be the correct approach Device or User CAL or other?
  • Do we need to deploy more RDS components to be licensing compliant
  • We actually have for internal user a 3 RDS server farm with 500 CAL's (around 50 are not in user). Can this licenses be counted for this gateway?
  • How do we control the licensing usage, since there is no need to deploy RDS Hosts for these gateways?

Onedrive access in RDS/Citrix?

Hello,

We use Citrix XenApp as a desktop, much like RDS really if you haven't used it before.  The thing is I need to somehow map users Onedrive.  I don't one to install the app as it will try to download/sync an offline version to there session profile which doesn't really work in this scenario.

Has anyone managed to just map a drive to their Onedrive before?

Thanks

The task you are trying to do can't be completed because remote desktop services is currently busy. Please try again in a few minutes. Other users should still be able to log on

Hi Guys.

I know this question has been asked a number of times before but from searching I cant seem to find an answer. Has anyone finally found a solution. I have a windows 2016  virtual server and just recently started getting this error when trying to login with one of the users there. I have about 3 users there but there is just 1 that can't seem to be able to login anymore and gets this error message. system is up to date, I tried a session reset for this user but still gets the error. I haven't tried restarting the server yet, I would like to find a solution that wont require a restart of the server. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Terminal Server folder issues

Hello!

i'm currently a Junior network administrator and I hit a issue that I can not locate. We currently use a Windows server 2012 which functions as a Terminal server, our users can currently only place files on their desktop and anywhere else because each folder that they try to open (images, documents, downloads etc.) they get the message "the operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Contact your system administrator". But, we do not have any restrictions on the folders.

Does anyone have an idea what could possibly be wrong and how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Last 4 Months, I wrongly installed remote desktop service to windows server 2012 R2.

Today, I get  a error message and can not remote connect to server.

Error Message is like below.

"Because there was not remote desktop license server to offer a license, the remote session was cut.
Please refer to a server manager."

I thought that error message mean license expired.

Can i remote connect after remove RDS service on Server 2012 R2?

RDS with the Azure MFA Plugin..Help! AuthZ Event ID 3

Hi Everyone,

We have a 2016 RDS Platform we'd like to start using with Azure MFA.  I've created an extra two NPS servers and installed the powershell plugin for MFA.  Everything is configured as per:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/authentication/howto-mfa-nps-extension-rdg

When attempting to connect, the gateways simply timeout and do not authenticate.  Looking through the NPS logs I'm seeing this:

NPS Extension for Azure MFA:  CID: 8bacef42-b3ac-49be-872b-99b3eca79302 :Exception in Authentication Ext for User DOMAIN\username :: ErrorCode:: CID :******** ESTS_TOKEN_ERROR Msg:: Verify the client certificate is property enrolled in Azureagainst your tenant and the server can access URL in Registry STS_URL.Error authenticating to eSTS: ErrorCode:: ESTS_TOKEN_ERROR Msg:: Error in retreiving token details from request handle: -895352831 Enter ERROR_CODE @ https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=846827for detailed TroubleShooting steps. Enter ERROR_CODE @ https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=846827for detailed TroubleShooting steps.

I've ran numerous powershell commands to check the certificates are in azure which they are

for users not yet enabled for MPA I have added this to the registry

REQUIRE_USER_MATCH = FALSE

on the gateway servers I'm seeing an Event ID 6274

The remote RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) server did not respond.

Those users are also unable to login to RDS....I've had to revert all settings to restore service

any ideas?

Thanks!!

Trying to deploy network printers to specific users only and only on their RDS sessions (not to their domain joined PCs)

Good Day, I am using the Printer Management tool to deploy printers to our environment. Since it is a per user GPO, how can I set this policy so that the printers are only installed for this group of users on their Remote Apps and not on their domain joined PCs.

RDS environment and print server are both W2k12R2. Originally I tried deploying with the GPO using the Control Panel Settings/printer but it was not reliable. With that method though I could add Item Level Targeting so it would only deploy to RDS sessions for these specific users.

The method above that you see is reliable, but seems to also install the printers to the local workstations (no item level targeting available).

CPU Fair Share - how is it designed to work?

Hi everybody!

I'm running an RDS farm with three session hosts, all with CPU Fair share enabled (as it is by default).
Even so, some users are able to claim 100% CPU in their sessions for extended periods of time when doing complex operations or big queries like in Power BI and the likes, even when there are multiple sessions to the server.

The 100% CPU claim does not end before the operation halts.
Shouldn't CPU Fair Share prevent exactly this or am I missing a point?

Local printers are not redirected when connecting to Session Host on Server 2016

I've have an issue redirecting local printers in my WS2016 RDS farm.

When I connect to any of my Server 2016 Remote Desktop Session Host I am not able to see redirected printers. This happens with full desktop or with Remoteapp, for example, with Wordpad.

This issue happens when connecting from RDS Gateway or when connecting from the intranet. Despite that, I'm able to redirect local printers if I connect to the sesion host with the /admin console session (mstsc.exe /admin). I have EasyPrint enabled and configured with preference via GPO.

I have configured print management and installed several server printers. The users are able to see those printers, but they cannot see redirected ones. I believe it's a driver issue, as I am able to see the TS redirected ports (TSxxx PRNx) but no printer installed in any of those ports.

I do not have any clue why. Could you please help me?

The farm is a standard RDS Farm, with 4 session host. The DCs are in another server, so no problem with that.

Thank You

2012 r2 Server Manger cannot manage RDS: Collections, Host Servers, and Connections won't display

Hello,

We have a 2012 r2 server running RDS publishing a number of RemoteApps.

When we go to the Server Manager and drill down to the Remote Desktop Services area we are seeing a number of the sections that will not display their information and we can no longer manage RDS via Server Manager.

Starting at Server Manager\Remote Desktop Services\Overview the "Deployment Servers" window shows a red banner with "Could not refresh the list of servers"

Going to the Server Manager\Remote Desktop Services\Collections, all three of the windows, Collections, Host Servers, and Connections will eventually display the similar type of error message, stating to check the status of the services for Remove Desktop Connection, Windows Remote Management and Windows Internal Database.

server manager error

The server is fully patched, event logs don't show anything of note.

We've rebooted the server and confirmed all those services and all "Remote Desktop *" services are running.

We're still able to access the RDWeb instance to use the published applications.

This had been working previously, not sure when it last was though as we don't always go into Server manager. We can manage the remoteapps via powershell, but are curious why Server Manager no longer functions.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks...

Username and domain does not automatically populate when off corporate network. We have a 2016 RDS environment with 2 RD Gateway server.

We also have a 2008 RDS environment with the same RD Gateway settings that populate username and domain off network.

Tried:

disabling Network Location Awareness on client

different settings in client RDP app

changed rd gateway policies

RD CALS Grace Period

Hello Experts

We have 2016 RD Cals Server on User Licensing. If this server goes down, is there a grace period we are offered?

and

If the RD Cals licensing server goes down, will the new user who doesn't have a license assigned still be able to login? Like in terminal server scenario or Citrix Servers

Also if the user has license assigned, will they still be able to login if the license server is still down?

Port 3389 not listening

$

Windows Server 2003R2. Terminal Services is installed and started. Remote Desktop is Enabled. In the Terminal Services Manager session window, RDP-TCP is shown as being in a listening state. But when I run netstat -a, port 3389 does not show up. RD client cannot connect. Telnet or ssh to that port does not connect.

TCP is working fine: I can use logmein to view the server; I can VPN to the server, I can look at SMB shares once the VPN is up. No TCP filtering is active. The Windows Firewall is not active.

How can I get port 3389 going and be able to RDP in?

The registry is still showing port 3389 as the listening port.

I have removed and re-created the RDP-tcp port without any trouble and without success. The properties are set on defaults.

Remote Desktop devices in the device manager show as operating fine.

It used to work fine and just recently (sometime in January) it stopped working. As far as I know, no new software was installed at that time.

I have reviewed a bunch of stuff found in Google but none of it seems to help, so far.

RDS licensing

As default only 2 users can logon to a server using RDP. How can we increase this to 7 users. What roles and features need to be installed and how do we deploy these licenses. Do we use user cals or device cals?
