RDS 2012R2 SSO has stopped working

Good Day,

We have a simple RDS farm with 5 hosts and 2 GW servers. This morning out of the blue the SSO stopped working. No matter what browser is used (Chrome, IE, or EDGE) our users are now being asked to login to our RDS Farm.

I know there was a change in the latest Windows update that removed the setting on windows 10 machines that removed the "allow remote desktop connections". I created a GPO that would allow this for certain computers but I wouldn't think that new GPO would cause SSO to break. It is a user setting in another GPO and I have verified that it still is in place.

Was a change made to how the browser is allowed to pass these credentials on to the RDP farm?

Here are the login settings from the farm. They have been unchanged since the farm rolled out. Maybe they need to be modified?

Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote User

Hi 

Can anybody share their views if they have experience the similar issue with the remote user. One of the remote user when tried to remote connect to the server her start button and task bar get freeze. But this issue clears when we restart the server, but after couple of weeks this issue comes back again. Its quite frustrating. Can anyone share their ideas if they have experience such kind of issue.

This issue happens only with one user among 10-12 users.

RDS cal for 2019

Hello All,

If I buy 1 Device RDS cal for Windows server 2019 then How many users can connect to this server simultaneously .

4-5 Members from staff needs to connect this server at a time (simultaneously). Do I need buy 5 User cal or 1 device cal sufficient for 5 users. Please help me with information .

RDS 2019 Remote Desktop Services - HA setup - Published Name takes me to the Connection Broker hosts desktop.

Hi, 

I did setup a full RDS environment with HA and using the farm name and/or published name takes me to the Connection broker cluster. Instead of logging me into a Session Host it logs me into a Connection Broker. 

Is this the correct behavior? Shouldn't I get RDP session on a Session Host? 
What could I have missed? 

All mi hosts are Windows 2019 except for my Session Hosts. Could this be the issue? 

Could this have anything to do with the License Servers activation during trial period?

I'm lost as I don't know what could I have done wrong or if this is the right behavior.

I looking for alternative for Citrix

Hello,

I have in my Company virtual environment in VMware.

We use Citrix to share applications for clients desktop, but I would use only RDS - I know it's easy, but I have now 25 virtual machines on citrix. Update application on 25 RDS virtual machines can was tarrible.

And here is my question:

Can I make base disk with RDS(RemoteApp) and create from it 25 VM's ?

It's should be on WS2019 Datacenter. Microsoft has on this solution? VDI can help me in this? Maybe there is something else that I have not heard of?

I will be very grateful for all the answers.

RDS Services across regions

Hi,

Can anyone please point me in the direction of being able to use 1 URL for multiple RDS deployments?

I believe an RDS gateway can be a member of multiple RDS deployments but not the Web server so if someone logs onto a webserver using the single URL they may not get the "correct" web server.

All instances of Windows Explorer slow on all users

At random intervals Windows Explorer seems to stop responding/become very slow on all signed in users (+- 20 users). Overall Processor usage is usually around 10~15%, but when this happens all logical cores rise to 100% for 2~3 seconds and then drop back to normal values again. During these 2~3 seconds Windows Explorer is responding to clicks, but the main windows stays white. This happens on both local disks as well as network drives.

Our setup is as follows:
- Windows Server 2016 std
- Server: HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10, 2x Intel Xeon Gold 6130, 192 GB memory, 8x 900 GB SAS 15k in RAID5 (controller cache enabled)

2019 RDS and Windows 10 Clients Remote App starts and stays minimized

We are testing LABELVIEW 2019 in our environment on a brand new and fully patched 2019 RDS Server.

Two out of three published apps LABEL MATRIX Converter and LABELVIEW Converter open up just fine,

however the main LABELVIEW 2019 App opens minimised and stays minimised. The Win 10 Pro client

has also all the latest updates and is 1809 version.

The same LABELVIEW 2019 APP launches fine on a Remote Desktop.

I am getting the following error when publishing a remote app.

RDP Error - Contact Network Administrator

Hi Team,

I am facing the RDP session issues as you can find in my attachments.

 In our environment we take RDP to a  Windows Server 2012 R2 (Jump Server) - connected to our environment Via VPN Tunnel or with Public IP.

The Jump server is connected to another 3 Servers in different location (datacenter) via VPN Tunnel. So first we take remote to Jump server and from there we take remote to other 3 Servers in different location.

But right now we are having issues with RDP when we take from Jump Servers to Other 3 servers. I am getting the errors as per the attachment.

Steps Taken:

ON JUMP Server

  1. Check Telnet to other 3 servers for 3389 - Working
  2. Tried to take remote with Others Users - Didn't connect
  3. Updated some windows patches and Restarted the Server.
  4. Even created a new User on 3 servers and tried to take remote from JUMP - Not working.
  5. Tried to take remote to other local servers(Same Jump server environment)  - Working.
  6. Verified VPN Tunnel Connectivity also from firewall level.

ON 3 Remote servers

  1. Server Still working.
  2. They can able to Login with same users from local .

Please help me to resolve this issue .

I downloaded the WeChat app and it wont allow me to access it without scanning the a box (which I do not poses that capability) or enter a q code (which I cannot get it to locate) the other option available is using and Network proxy address and interface and account and password (at which I have no clue to what where or how). I would greatly appreciate it if I could please get some help.? Thank you

Two apps showing when launching RemoteApp program from remote location

At the company I work for we are running a Windows Server 2019 with Remote Desktop Services. I have created a RemoteApp Program that runs normally at our location, but when running this at our remote location it shows (2) apps on the taskbar - one for the remote desktop connection and the other for the remote app.

The same app running on the same o/s at my location only shows the remote application running.

The RDS server is at my location (corporate). We also have an older Server2008 Terminal server here and do not have it setup as a farm, just (2) separate servers.

I have also ran this just as an .RDP file and also as a RDWeb app and they both do the same thing.

Windows Server 2019 RDS Cal issue

I have a domain setup with a domain controller, Remote desktop server and Web server, all server 2019. I also have a gateway, license manager, cals installed and per device settings. When I attempt to use the remote desktop service I receive an error stating that the licenses are incorrect the server is expecting Server 2016 licenses. Why would I receive this type of message with a server 2019 domain?

Windows Search changes in Server 2019 RDS

So nothing like being on the cutting edge......

I have been testing Server 2019 RDS and so-far-so-good apart from an issue with the Windows Search Service.

It appears that in Server 2019 each user gets their own search database EDB file in their profile path (appdata\roaming). e.g.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb

When they log on and log off; this is connected to the search service and the following event log is generated

Unfortunately it appears that this process is not very stable and on some logons the database in the users profile does not attach and the following error is generated

And a few more similar but related errors....

No subsequent logon/off will succeed in attaching the database until the Windows Search service is restarted

I am not testing with User Profile Disks or Roaming Profiles
There is no AV on the server

Any ideas?

RemoteApp Shell Issues

Good Afternoon,

For the last two weeks we have been seeing issues with the initial RemoteApp Shell process that starts when I user connects to our RDS farm.

They receive the message that their app is loading and it sits there in perpetuity.

You can click on the show details button under the connection bar and you see the apps loaded on the server desktop. The only way I have been able to get the applications to come to the user's desktop is by opening the task manager on the server and killing their instance of the RemoteApp Shell. This immediately begins the process anew and presents the application on their screen.

While this isn't a show stopper by any means, it is certainly an annoyance. I have not seen anything in eventvwr that points me in the direction of the problem.

This all started after the latest cumulative update to Server 2016, but I haven't had an opportunity to remove the servers to test its removal.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any thoughts on how I can make RemoteApp Shell behave properly again? We've been running in this environment for the last few months without this issue, but it is happening more and more.

Any help is appreciated.

RDP Farm and user profiles disks

Hello.
Farm of three terminal servers
A cluster disk is attached to store user profiles
The registry is configured:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Default                 C:\ClusterStorage\Volume2\Users\Default
ProfilesDirectory    C:\ClusterStorage\Volume2\Users
ProgramData         %SystemDrive%\ProgramData
Public                    C:\ClusterStorage\Volume2\Users\Public

Once configured, the profiles are located on a clustered disk.
After successfully connecting to the terminal server, the user cannot click on the start menu button.
Start menu does not start.

Why ?
How to solve this problem

Re deployment of RDS cal from Windows server 2012 R2 to windows server 2016

Right now I am using RDS cal for windows server 2012 R2 standard edition. But I want to redeploy those RDS cals on windows server 2016 standard edition. Can I use Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS cal for Windows server 2016. Please help me with solution.

Windows Server 2019 License Downgrade Requirement

Hi,

We have procured “Windows Server 2019 Standard ROK Hewlett Packard Enterprise” from a HP approved vendor in Pakistan. It has a COA sticker on it specifying the product key. As per our understanding, we could use this product key for Windows Server 2016 activation.

Our requirement is “Windows Server 2016 64 bit Standard Edition”. After installation of Windows Server 2016 in HP server, we are not able to activate it using the product key written on “Windows Server 2019 Standard ROK Hewlett Packard Enterprise”.

Kindly let us know how to activate Windows Server 2016 using the product we have procured.

Windows 2012 and RDS 2016

Hi

We are looking to do a in-place upgrade on our Windows 2008 server to 2012, to hold us over until our new Windows 2016 servers are in place.

Currently we have the RDS roles on a Windows 2008 server which we are planning to retire as well.

My question is can we build a new Windows 2016 server and put the RDS roles on it and have the upgraded Windows 2012 servers use it for it licencing info and connection broker, until the Windows 2016 servers are ready, then have the new Windows 2016 server use the same server?

unable to install remote desktop services

Hello

 I am unable to install remote desktop services on the server2012  (not via GUI and not by powershell)

I get the error: "one or several parent features are disabled so curent feature cannot be enabled error 0xc004000d"

But uninstalling of the features is not possible too because I get "an unexpected error occured"

The server is an VM of server2012. It was upgraded from 2008R2 which had the terminalserver and DC role installed. But before upgrading to 2012 the DC roles were transfered, the Server demoted and the terminalserver roles uninstalled. But it seems there are remains from the old installation, because

as installed. but no sub features

and I am unable to install or uninstall the features
