Local printers are not redirected when connecting to Session Host on Server 2016

I've have an issue redirecting local printers in my WS2016 RDS farm.

When I connect to any of my Server 2016 Remote Desktop Session Host I am not able to see redirected printers. This happens with full desktop or with Remoteapp, for example, with Wordpad.

This issue happens when connecting from RDS Gateway or when connecting from the intranet. Despite that, I'm able to redirect local printers if I connect to the sesion host with the /admin console session (mstsc.exe /admin). I have EasyPrint enabled and configured with preference via GPO.

I have configured print management and installed several server printers. The users are able to see those printers, but they cannot see redirected ones. I believe it's a driver issue, as I am able to see the TS redirected ports (TSxxx PRNx) but no printer installed in any of those ports.

I do not have any clue why. Could you please help me?

The farm is a standard RDS Farm, with 4 session host. The DCs are in another server, so no problem with that.

Thank You

How to Implement Camera / Microphone on RDS?

Looking for some advice: We want to use Webcams and Headsets for about 20 users on our local / on-premise Terminal Server (RDS). Single Session-Host, no Cluster - fairly simple. Right now we are running our Windows-VMs on a recent ESXi-Build (6.7) with decent Hardware, but no GPU.

Just to give you some idea on what kind of Hardware our Hypervisor is running right now:
2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6128 CPU @ 3.40GHz / 128 GB RAM / local RAID 10 (SAS 10k)

After some tinkering I managed to use our Webcams and Headsets redirected within the classic RDP-Session. Unfortunately the Performance is quite bad if we use the Webcam and also display the other persons cams in MS Teams for example. CPU usage just skyrocks (even with multiply cores / different cpu-layouts assigned).

So I was wonder is this because we are missing a GPU and the CPU can't handle all the Encoding and stuff for more users in parallel fast enough? If so: What would be the best way to handle this Hard- and Software-wise. I guess RemoteFX with a build-in GPU could help?

Just looking for some directions / possible strategies (inclunding new Hard- or Software) to go here, please advice.

Thanks.

USB Redirection Peripherals for Terminal Windows Virtual Desktop

Working on setting up a WVD terminal service environment for a client. One of the requirements is the ability to use certain USB peripherals devices. The important ones are VEC Infinity Footpedals and scanners. These are both USB devices.

I'm having some trouble finding out if this is supported on a WVD environment. Logging on through the Remote Desktop client doesn't pick up on the redirected scanner or foot pedal and I can't seem to find any definitive answer online.

I RDP into my work laptop when I work from home, and the it picks up the foot pedal and other peripherals fine, and I assumed WVD used the same re-directors. The virtual desktops pick up on all other USB devices without issue including printers, keyboards, and mouses.

Other peripherals I tried to test included a Xbox 360 usb controller.

Is it not supported in this type of environment yet, or is something more that can be configured?

Currently I have two VMs spun up - one is domain joined that you go through the Remote Desktop client to access. The second is not domain joined and is for testing, and I go through RDP to get into it. In both cases the extra USB peripherals do not redirect.

I did go through an enable RemoteFX through GPO to see if that would allow us to pull the foot pedal and other devices through to the WVD, and still had no luck pertaining to this.

A Licensing error occurred while the client was attempting to connect (licensing timed out).

Hi,

A site i now managed which has a 2012 r2 server which is the terminal server and a 2016 Server which is the licensing server as well as an sbs 2011 server which is the DC has a small problem. Users inside the lan can rdp fine, but external users get this error - a A Licensing error occurred while the client was attempting to connect (licensing timed out).

Any idea's?

Unable to RDP in to Remote Server

I am logging on to a remote server (Spiceworks) from home - using Windows 10 pro - and am unable to accept cookies

The blue hyperlinks are just not active for me - I have tried using Chrome and Firefox - but neither work

This limits what I can do - severely and also the pages keep on automatically refreshing giving blank pages.

What is the solution ?

According to CANDY (networking) MS forum - the reason is that "It seems that Spiceworks utilities are not compatible with the RDP session." -which I believe is codswallop !!

RDP Web Client Not Displaying Correctly

I just installed RDWebclient on our Windows Server 2016. I have it fully patched and have restarted the server since installing again. I uninstalled and reinstalled RDWebclient on the server. However, the web page is not displaying correctly. For instance, instead of display "Username" above the username input field, it says "USER_NAME_LABEL" and for password it says "PASSWORD_LABEL". In the top left hand corner, it says "ALL_RESOURCES_TAB_LABEL". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (Sorry, I can't post a picture of it because my account is not validated).

RDS 2016 - UWP, iOS, Android and Mac OS X Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager cannot connect to URL

$

About two weeks ago, the UWP, iOS, Mac OS and Android versions of Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager all stopped working for our RDS environment externally; previously, users were able to use this application externally and internally without fault.  If the users access our RDWeb/Pages/en-US/default.aspx and use classic MSTSC to open RemoteApps then this works externally.

When plumbing in the correct feed details to the apps we get (iOS, Mac OS) 'no workspace is associated with this URL site'.

We are using Windows Server Datacenter 2016 across the board with 2 servers acting as Gateways, Licensing, Broker and Web Access with a further 6 acting as session hosts.  All have been updated including the most recent crypto hotfix (approximately when the whole thing stopped working).

The route external users take would be:

External DNS entry - ADFSWAP - Gateway - Broker - Session Host

The following error can be found in the logs on our gateway servers:

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

Anyone got any ideas?  The above has had some data annonymised for security.

RemoteApp GPO is not applying for users without local admin access

My organization is planning on deploying AX 2012 R3 Client via RemoteApp for all our users. I am currently testing this out with RDS installed on a single Windows 2012 R2 Server, but in the future I will set up a new Server 2016 RDS environment for this.

I am having issues publishing the RemoteApp URL via GPO to my users. It will only work if the user has local administrator access on their PC. This cant be how it's supposed to work? I am planning on deploying this to hundreds of users! If the user manually adds it into the Control Panel Item it works. They are asked to log on once, and they just use their own credentials and it works fine.

The event log tells me this. "Windows failed to apply the {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings. {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link."

Notes:
- I have figured out that the GUID the RemoteApp settings.
- The GPO shows up as an applied GPO in gpresult /h.
- I am sure I have seen the error "access denied" somewhere but I cant remember where now.

Reference to this thread where another admin had similar issue: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/21362dc1-24be-48ff-8447-2ca80d068d8c/rds-remoteapp-url-gpo?forum=winserverGP#21362dc1-24be-48ff-8447-2ca80d068d8c

Anyone have a clue of what may cause this? Why does this only work for users with local administrator access? Is there maybe some other GPO that blocks it?

Hello colleagues

When we are doing such config (enable multiple sessions per user):

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Connections

Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session     Disabled

We are not able to reconnect to any disconnected session that was running previously.

It seems that it was mentioned here for Inside build, but we have same...

Any solutions for this problem?

Hi,

some of our users after the upgrade from Windows 10 1906 to 2004, are unable to connect to a RDS Farm (2012R2, a number of sessions host, 2 broker and  2 gateway).

When the user try to use the rdp file for the connection, the remote desktop client asks for the credential then it shows:

- Initiating remote connection...

- Preparing the destination computer...

- Securing remote connection...

After a while the client shows the following error:

Looking in the event viewer, the following warning / error are displayed in Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore EventLog:

Sessions sticking on signing out until server reboot

$

We are seeing an issue on multiple 2012 R2 servers at the moment where at some point the session begin to stick on signing out. If the user tries to reconnect to the session they get stuck on 'signing out' and can do nothing.

We are unable to end any task the user has open with built in or third party tools. If you click end task under 'users' nothing happens, and if you do it under 'details' it says access is denied.

The user cannot CTRL, ALT + END on that screen.

Currently, the only way we have been able to get the server operational is to reboot. Obviously this isn't ideal as there may be X number of users actively working on the system.

Has anyone seen anything similar or have any ideas?

RDP Session creates 2 User Folders

I just created a new user on my DC, I have 2 terminal servers both running Windows Server 2016. When I logon with user via RDP into 1st server, it creates one user folder correctly. On the 2nd server when I login via RDP, it creates 2 user folders; one is just the username and the 2nd is username.domain. What is causing this on the 2nd server? Any ideas? We also setup the users with a custom path to Home Folder. See screenshots below. Thanks!

Allow any command line parameters - digital signature

Hi All,

We are working with RDS servers 2019 environment. our deployment contains:

Remote Desktop Services

Remote Desktop Session Host

Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RD Connection Broker)

I am currently testing the Remote App feature.

when I creating an App I have an option to choose in Parameters Tab the option "Allow any command-line parameters".

So I've created remote app and tested it and it working good.

The problem is, when I am editing the rdp file and replace the value in remoteapplicationcmsline:s  and launching the Remote App again I am getting a digital signature's message that says:

"The publisher of this RemoteApp program can't be identified. Do you want to connect to run the program anyway?"

Do you have solution for that issue?

Regards,

Shay Minis

Remote Desktop client doesn't exit

We have a remote desktop infrastructure with multiple Brokers and Gateways that redirect connections to a pool of servers. All of the servers are Windows Server 2019. After a user logs off of their session that was connected through the gateway, the rdp client never exits and stays at a black screen.

Is there a solution to this issue?

Thanks

Print Redirection - Single User Failure

$

We have a single user who is unable to print locally to network connected printers from the TS. The uer's RDC settings have print redirection enabled. There are no error messages on either printer; the printers wake but don't print. The print service log shows no errors either, however once I started digging the default printer is cycling through all the network printer almost every minute from approximately ^6am to 8pm daily for as far back as I can see. (Evernt ID 823) I'm honestly not sure if that's normal but I would imagine its not. If anyone could offer a suggestion of what to try next, or if I should look further into the 823 event, I'd appreciate it.

Removing a Server From a Farm thingy

$

Hello

I am very used to managing Server 2008R2 RDS where we have a 5-server load-balanced farm using the Connection Broker.

I am setting up another 5 server farm (Collection?) using Server 2012R2 and the new management tools, underlying changes to the technology and terminology is making my head hurt a little.

I have set up the farm/collection the way I want it - using Load Balanced (via DNS Round Robin) Connection Broker and that seems to be working fine in testing.

However I cannot work out how to remove a server from the load balanced group.  In 2008 I would log onto the server and uncheck the "Participate in Connection Broker Load-Balancing" box in Session Host Configuration.

Can anyone advise how to remove a server from load balancing in Server 2012R2?

Many thanks
Paul
