2008 R2 Label Printer Server Issues
Hey, what's going on TechNetizens, the name is Jeffrey.
And I could really use some help on this one. I have a windows Print Server running 2k8 R2 on a blade. Everything seems to be working fine, except I have 5 portable label printers that are printing either sporadically or not at all. They're all the same model, an Intermec PB50 printer, they're all using the same drivers, and I've spoken with support. They've said that everything should be set up correctly.
I can ping the printers, they all have a built-in web server that I can view through a web browser, and they seem to print for a while after I restart the printer spool service. I've used both the services menu and through net spooler start/stop and it seems to sometimes kick out a print. Also yes, I've made sure to delete the files from C:\windows\systems32\spooler\printers\ (both the spl files and the shd). And yes, I've turned the printer on and off again. Removed the battery too.
However this only appears to work for about 15 to 30 minutes. After that the print jobs seem to get hung up in the printer queue again. I repeat the steps I mentioned above, but there is not guarantee that any of these print jobs will even work after this. I am basically living on a wing and a prayer that these print jobs will work.
If anyone has any ideas as to why this is, I would love to hear it. I need these servers to be able to reliably print labels for the company, yet so far I seem to be floundering here.
Poor Print Quality
I am Running Windows server 8 R2. Remote Desktop Connection clients running on Windows 7 are connecting properly but printing on epson LX-300+ or Epson LX-350 gives very low quality. This is contrary to print quality when user print locally. I have updated the printer drivers but still there is no improvement
Kindly assist

RDC log
Hi
Where I can find a log for RDC connections in Windows 8 ?
I am connecting to a VM in Azure and it's disconnecting every 5-15 seconds with "Reconnecting 1 of 20" message.
So, it's not about RDC to my computer. It's from my computer to another.
From other machines it's working fine.
I am a developer so it's very hard to use this kind of connection to a virtual machine in Azure.
Thank you !

Windows Server 2012 RemoteApp DPI scaling issue on High Resolution Monitor
we have an issue with RemoteApp in high resolution monitor in windows server 2012.
Our application starts a RemoteApp inside it, and when we use a high resolution monitor to launch our application the RemoteApp inside is getting scaled and contents are affected or zoomed out.
I tried to change the display settings from the control panel (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display)and made sure DPI is set to 100%, signed out and signed in but it made no difference.
Upon further digging we found a registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG/Software/Fonts/LogPixels which is automatically getting updated with a different dpi value (other than 96 which is default) upon connecting a high resolution monitor.
Setting this registry value to 100% scaling (96 dpi) issue with RempteApp was not seen.
Is anybody aware of this feature and other ways to deal with it (may be setting some value from UI).
System Specification :
OS : Windows Server 2012
client RDP Version : 8.1 and also tried with 7.1
Note : we have not observed this issue with Windows server 2008.
RDS 2012 R2 with full HA, certificate mismatch on the second broker
Hi,
I just set up a new RDS deployment scenario with two servers.
Each servers have this role : RDWeb, RD Broker, RD Gateway & RD Session Host
Licensing server and SQL Server is on another server, I switch from the internal database to the SQL database for HA Broker scenario.
HA work great, I can turn off one of the two servers, users can reconnect on the second (I use a Round Robin DNS for remote.mydomain.com and use a split DNS for the mydomain.com because of an internal domain in .local)
I have configured all the role to use the public FQDN name (remote.mydomain.com) and I set up a public certificate (mono-CN).
By using the Set-RDPpublishedName.ps1 script (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80) all works perfectly, include the SSO which is native
with 2012.
The issue is :
- When users pointing to the server1 IP (remember that I use Round Robin DNS), I don't have any warning ; from internal or external network the users just click on the published App and it just works.
- When users pointing to the server2 IP, the prompt you've got the first time (see the screenshot below) says all is pointing to remote.mydomain.com but after this prompt I have a certificate Warning because the broker use internal name of server2.mydomain.local for published App. This is not critical because the user can validate the warning and the publishedApp starts normally.
If I try to use the Set-RDPpublishedName.ps1 script on server2, I've got an error which says I don't have any RDP deployment on this server (server2 was installed from Server Manager of Server1).
Is anyone have a solution for me for force server2 to use my FQDN name instead of the local name ?
Thank you a lot !

Removing RD Gateway from server farm
Hello,
I have a simple RDS 2012 R2 farm with basically 2 of everything. By accident I forgot to remove the second RD Gateway server from the deployment and removed it from Active Directory. Now when I try to remove the RD Gateway server it comes up with an error.
Attached is an image of the error.
Remote Desktop Gateway Server Is Temporarily Unavailable (Win 2012)
My setup:
Windows server 2012 Standard. I have Hyper-V installed and about 10 vm's. It's been up and running for about 5-6 months with almost no problems.
I have the RD web access setup for people who want to access a vm while working at home. That uses the https://something.something.com/rdweb and work great. I can log as any user and get a random or assigned vm (depending on the user).
I have an off-site office that has a persistent VPN connection to the main office. From the remote office, I can ping their gateway and the main office gateway. I can ping the AD server and any other computer at the main office. So, I know the VPN connection is working (plus I see it working on the router). So, I rule that out as a bad connection.
Typically, the remote office will just type in the computer name to get their vm session running (vm-1, vm-2, vm-3, etc...). Assigned users have a shortcut on their desktop to their respective vm machine.
For the past week, they will just get dropped off. No warning - just lost their connection. They didn't loose the Internet connection. VPN is still running. Can still surf the web on their physical computer. But cannot connect to their vm at the main office. I can ping the vm machine by name or IP and that works. But not RDP to that vm machine.
Everything on my Win 2012 server said RD services are operational. All my remote services are running (remote desktop configuration, remote desktop connection broker, gateway, licensing, management, services). Remember, I can still connect from the outside by going to my https://something.something.com/rdweb and log in as any user and get a vm going.
The remote office will get the "Remote Desktop Gateway Server is Temporarily Unavailable" error. They get that if they try RDP or use the internal web browser address http://servername/rdweb.
When I log into the server and actually go directly to the vm machines from hyper-v, I'll sometimes discover either nothing (i.e. the vm works, I can surf the web and ping whatever, so I know it has network connectivity) or it's totally lost its network connectivity and just can't reach the gateway no matter what. Doing the network repair doesn't solve anything.
And, interestingly enough, when the user tries to load their vm, the remote desktop connection box on the screen will get all the way to saying "loading the virtual machine" but it always fails w/the gateway error message.
So far, my only band-aid solution has been to restart the entire server. Something I wish I didn't have to do. It disrupts more people than helping the 3-4 off-site people.
So, I'm here, seeking help so I can find the root case and get this fixed up.
Any other information you need, please do ask me. I'm very quick to reply back.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Remote Printing on 2012 from Mac
Hi all,
I'm having an issue trying to setup remote printing from a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 using the 'Remote Desktop Connection' app and connecting to my Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Services server I have configured.
The Mac is sitting on a completely different domain and network to the Remote Desktop Services server. I have turned on the 'Use a printer that is connected to this Mac' function within the Mac's Remote Desktop Connection application preferences however I cant see the printer on the Remote Server.
I've made a few changes to Local and Group Policies to try get it working and had no success but perhaps I am not configuring these Policies correctly.
Is anyone familiar with setting this up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Remote connections on Server 2012 essentials
Hi all
We purchased a product called NComputing X550. This product allows remote connection to a single server using terminals or stations that connect via UTP cable to a PCI card installed in the server. We have server 2008 standard that is not compatible with this product as we need a minimum of 2008 R2. So we decided to purchase new server software. The problem is we do not know what version of 2012 to get. essential, standard, ect. the device connects with 5 terminals/stations but we will have someone on the server also. Some Suppliers told me that we can use essential as it comes with 25 user accounts and all we need is to purchase the CAL's for each remote connection. Others tell me no we need Standard and we need to purchase a license for each and then a CAL for each. Please help. Thank you

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user - Error: Null
I have a remote desktop services farm built on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have two Connection brokers in a HA setup, a single server with the web/gateway roles installed and two session hosts in a single session collection.
The farm has been working well up until I ran the Set-RDWorkspace command to change the name from the default to the name of our organisation.
The web and gateway seem to function fine but when I try and connect to the session collection I get the following error "This computer can't connect to the remote computer.
I have tested network connectivity between both session hosts and connection brokers, all seems okay.
In the "TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client" logs in Event viewer the following error message is generated when a logon is attempted: "Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user - Error: Null".
I am unsure if this issue is related to the "Set-RDWorkspace" command or that was just a coincidence
Thanks
Handle count on a .Net application keeps increasing during remote desktop session
I have an in-house .NET application that have these symptoms.
1. When userA logs in from remote desktop and run the application, the application handles count keeps increasing (as seen in Performance monitor). When userA disconnects, the handle count stays as where it was, no longer increasing but also not decreasing.
2. When another user, UserB logs in from remote desktop session on the same machine where userA remote desktop session is running (with the application still running) but userA session already disconnected, the handle count of that application is not affected (no increase, no decrease).
3. When UserA logging again, or reconnect back to his session again, the handle count again start to increase further.
So, in summary whoever logs in and start that application as long as he is still logged in or disconnected but session still active, the application will keeps increasing handle count.
In Process Explorer, I am still multiple instants of "Desktop" and "\Default" as handle type and name respectively.
Based on these symptoms, can anyone suggest how I can go about to troubleshoot what is wrong?

Reconnect possible to a session after a reboot of the RDS server?
A couple of users have reported to us that they were able to "reconnect" to their original session of the previous day after a reboot of the RDS server. And a "full reconnect" to the active session! Is this really possible?
The users claim not to have been logged off at all, so their session was still running during the night when the RDS servers in a farm were automatically rebooted. I verified this an the servers were indeed rebooted. When the user logged on to the thin client and started RDP to the Farm (via a tsbroker to a RR DNS farm) he was automatically reconnected to his session of the previous day, he did not have to re-enter his password details (SSO) but all applications were available instantly without restating and with the windows open on the spot where they left of the previous day.
It almost sounds like magic. We use bginfo to show some details on the desktop and the user confirmed that it was the same server and bginfo showed that the RDS server was indeed rebooted! Nevertheless the users windows arrangements and Outlook were shown instantly without re-starting on the spot where the user left the day before!! On the RDs sever all processes of the user had a new "start time" which confirms again that the server was rebooted indeed!
Almost sounds like a kind of hibernation of the RDP session and restarting the next day where the user left off...
Is this plain by design and to be expected??

Server Manager question
I setup up a 2 server RDS 2012 setup a couple of months ago, but it never got put in to production. I had a few niggling problems but nothing major, so for the benefit of experience I decide to start from scratch. This time I'm doing it with 2012 R2 (I don't suppose that really makes a difference though). One of the problems I have that I can't seem to find any info is to do with server manager. I'm wanting to make the solution as redundant as possible, but what I can't figure out is where the actual RDS config is stored. On the previous installation I did the initial config on the first RD Session host server, but for a period that was down and any config changes i wanted to make i tried to do from the second session host server, but this just caused more confusion.
Could you explain how i would change the config of the farm if the server that i used to do the initial config is unavailable (for whatever reason)?
Thanks
