Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7 on high resolution screens

$

hi, i just got a lenovo yoga which has a 3200x1900 resolution screen.  rdp does not render the desktop big enough on a high resolution screen and is unusable.  I was happy to find rdcm 2.2 handles the high resolution fine. but when i upgraded to rdcm 2.7, the remote desktop is much to small to be usable again.

I have played with resolution setting in rdp/rdcm but the problem is the desktop icons are just too small.  I finally back-rev'd to 2.2

does anyone know how i can report this bug to the developer?  or if you know of a way to make 2.7 it work on high resolution screen....

thanks in advance

to be clear, the problem is that on a 3200x1900 screen, the size of the icons in the rdp session is so small its hard to read them.  if i play around with the rdp resolution, i am only making the desktop bigger or smaller, the icons are not scaling to that.  This is different in rdcm 2.2.  in 2.2, the icons are scaled up on a large desktop, making them usable.

Clear Content.Mso (every login)

On our RDS servers - 2012 R2, several users are generating large Content.mso folders.

I was hoping to try and create a VB Script or KIXtart script to clear all Temp Files, Temp Internet Files & this content.mso files on the server. So every time the user logs in, the script will run and clear their junk.

I think the location of the file is C:\Users\%userProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.mso.

From what I have read, the content.mso folder relates to Cached Office data, not temp internet files as I 1st thought.

Your help will be REALLY appreciated....

RDS 2012 R2 - VDI Naming

Hi there,

I need to implement four VDI Pools:

2 Personal Managed Pools, Windows 7.1 SP1 & Windows 8.1 -
2 Pooled Managed Pools, Windows 7.1 SP1 & Windows 8.1

Following Naming is a customer requirement:

"V" as Prefix and 5 Numbers as Suffix.

Pool1: V10000, Pool2: V20000, Pool3: V30000 and Pool4: V40000

This should allow me to have a continuous numbering within the Pools for ex. till V29999.
Also I need to use the Prefix for all four Pools - "V".

But how do I have to set the Prefix and Suffix right. Is there a variable I can set. I tried both, GUI and Powershell.
It allows me to use the Prefix "V" only once for all the Pools.

Thanks for advise.
Cheers, Al

Now we got the Problem that many Users get the Message "No License Server is available" after check the new License Server only 25 per User Licenses are allocated, but we got around 60 active Users on our Terminalservers...

How can we cleanup the Old per Device Licenses are they stored somewhere in the Active Directory User Object?

Outlook Indexing and RDS

$

Hi folks,

-We're running Outlook 2013 on our RDS pool machines (4x 2012 R2 servers).
-our Outlook mailboxes use Office365 accounts.
-Outlook is setup to cache 1 month (default is no caching but we've enabled it as it is the only way to get the yousendit plugin to work).
-Outlook Indexing however is disabled as adviced by our external consultants / MS Gold partner, using group policy : Computer configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Search\Prevent indexing Microsoft Office Outlook

The literal words of the consultants were : "you better disable indexing cause you might experience performance issues otherwise. Because Outlook will rebuild the index from scratch each time a user logs on on an RDS machine (with his/her roaming vxhd profile)".

Disabling Outlook indexing however results in advanced search features in Outlook being greyed out (I mean buttons "From", "subject", "more", etc. all greyed out).

My question is therefor multilayered :
-Is the consultant right about performance issues if we enable indexing ? Does it really have to rebuild from scratch with each logon ?
-If the best practice is indeed to disable indexing on an RDS machine : is there a workaround to get the advanced search features back ?

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this.
Kind regards, Vincent

Our company needs give everyone RDP access to Windows 2012 R2 standard server. I have read about some articles about adding RDP CALs etc. Can anyone help to answer the question below? thanks

1. Can RDP licensing server be on the same Win 2012 AD server? We only have one server, does not want to buy another server.

2. I have added RDP Role/Feature on the server, what are next steps?

3. How to get RDP trial? (120 days?)

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

RemoteApp - RemoteApp Disconnected errors, going in circles on this

$

I've got Win Server 2012 setup for Remote Apps, running a single server environment.  Internally things work without any issue at all, I can access the server https://apps.company.com/RDWeb (using both internal and external address), without issues and login fine. I double click an app, after a minute the application opens.

I jump out to an external connection, access the same external address, and login without any problem.  When I go to open an app, it responds with the following:

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer "apps.company.local" for one of the reasons:

1) Your user account is not authorized to access the RD Gateway "apps.company.com".

2) Your computer is not authorized to access the RD Gateway "apps.kib.us"

3) You are using an incompatible authentication method (RD Gateway might be expecting a smart card....)

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

-I've gone into IIS > Default Web Site > RDWeb > Pages > Application Settings, and changed the DefaultTSGateway to the external site, "apps.company.com".

-Was using a centralized NPS server, attempted to run it locally on the RD Server.

-Ensured NPS was registered in Active Directory.

-RDGateway Manager - Ensured Domain Users and Remote Groups could connect to user group membership and computer group membership.

The only thing that stands out to me is if I go into Deployment Overview, I see, RD Connection: apps.company.local.  I hit the Tasks drop down > Edit Deployment > RD Web Access says that my RD Web Access Server is apps.company.local.

Anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction.  I've been troubleshooting for quite some time and getting nowhere.

MSTSCLib ActiveX RemoteApp Launched Application/Child forms open in middle of multiple screens

$

Im using axMsRDPClient7NotSafeForScripting and connecting to windows 2008 r2 server in RemoteApp or "RemoteProgram.RemoteProgramMode = true". Everything opens fine, but the applications are opening in the center of screen which is fine until there is multi monitors.  When there is multiple monitors the remoteapp opens in the center of the two screens.

I am able to maximize an application on one screen or another and it appears it understands the h x w of each monitor, but if the application has a child form it opens in the center of both screens.

If I utilize mstsc.exe v6,7 etc and connect with basic remoteapp the applications are more aware of dual monitors and handle child forms etc in proportion to the main open app.  I believe this is due to setting different parameters in the rdp file, such as:

use multimon:i:1

screen mode id:i:1

span monitors:i:1

I am unable to find a way to activate these settings on my mstsclib control on my c# application. The only way I can get the control to recognize the Desktop W & H is to set:

rdpClient.DesktopWidth = SystemInformation.VirtualScreen.Width;
rdpClient.DesktopHeight = SystemInformation.VirtualScreen.Height;

On connecting.  This does set the remote desktop to expand over the multiple monitors, but as you would expect it is treating the Desktop W/H on the session as one big screen.

How to deploy connection (Mac OS X Yosemite to Windows RDS) through the RD Gateway with Two Factor authentication (Safenet OTP) on Session host?

Good day!

Could you please help me? How to deploy connection (Mac OS X Yosemite to Windows RDS) through the RD Gateway with Two Factor authentication on Session host? How to open an authentication dialog that is the same as in Windows when logging on to network resources in Windows (Windows Security)?
Our test environment: We have one RDS 2012 R2 server (all roles in one) and one session host in collection. On the session host installed Safenet Network Logon and it under GPO which disable all authentication, only OTP.

RDP Gateway : Custom Authentication plugin & Default CAP

We have developed a custom authentication plugin for the RDP gateway according to Microsoft provided sample.

https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsdesktop/Remote-Desktop-Gateway-517d6273

When installing our plugin on a fresh installation of RDP gateway we get an error during the connection (see below).

If we remove the default CAP configuration setup by the RDP installation Wizard and manually configuration a new one then connection succeeds.

How to fix that issue ?

thanks

Details of the error are below:

The user "domain\user", on client computer "x.x.x.x", did not meet connection authorization policy requirements and was therefore not authorized to access the RD Gateway server. RDS and SID error with two-way trust

$

Hey there.. weird one here.. I am testing RemoteApps with Server 2012. All is fine except for when I try and grant access to user in another forest where we have a two-way\forest transitive trust. The error is below.. What is interesting is the trust works fine otherwise. For example, if I try and add a user to the local admin group on the server it works great.. I can even authenticate via RDweb portal from a user in the trusted domain.. any ideas?

using remote desktop web access (RDWEB) with remoteapps and a traditional remote desktop

$

I configured windows 2012 r2 remote desktop services and remote desktop web access (rdweb) and was able to click the icon on the rdweb page to log on to a remote desktop session. When I published a remoteapp program, the remote desktop icon went away. How do I get it back? Do I need to publish remote desktop as a remoteapp so users can both use remote apps and log on to a traditional remote desktop session?

thanks in advance for the help
