Problem Connecting w/ RDS Server 2012
UPHClean for windows server 2012 r2
Hi There,
I am facing issues during profile unloading. Some handles are not released and in use of some process or services. Mainly i see svchost.exe is in use while logging off.
And result of this is that user profile is not deleting cleanly at log off. from the next logon onwards user is not getting proper profiles, however getting the profile as username.domainname, username.domainname001.
I understand this issue can be fixed by uphclean atleast till windows server 2008, can someone suggest if it works fine for windows 2012 R2.
I understand last uphclean version was 2.0 (beta), does it work fine with windows 2012 r2? if not any other utility which helps fixing this issue?

Abhishek
Windows Server 2012 RDS Server, missing tools?
Hello,
I have recently installed a single Windows 2012 RDS server, it is a member server joined to a domain and it is working well for the most part. The overview shows all the roles installed on the server (RD Connection Broker, RD Session Host, RD Gateway, RD Licensing and RD Web Access. However, under Tools, Terminal Services there is only RD Licensing Diagnoser, Gateway Manager and Licensing Manager. From what I have read, there are supposed to be other tools like RD Connection Manager and others? Add Roles and Features says everything is installed and nothing left to add. Did I do something wrong? How can I install and access these tools?
Thanks
Server 2012 no longer calls icawd startupprograms key?
I have XenApp 7.6 installed on Server 2012 and want to launch an executable from this key upon session connection:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\icawd\StartupPrograms
Problem is on Server 2012 it looks like this key doesn't get called anymore. I ran procmon and don't see it. This key works in Server 2008 R2.
Has something changed in Server 2012?
RDP to "Console" Session
Is it possible to remote desktop in such a way that we can connect to the "console" session on a Windows Server 2012 R2 computer?
The reason we are asking is that we have an application that will not run unless it is the console session, but we are trying to access this application from a thin client.
Cannot publish app via GUI but can via Powershell
Hi
I'm currently looking at an environment whereby applications can be published as a RemoteAPP via the New-RDRemoteApp command but when using the gui i'm confronted with the following:
And within the RdmsUI-trace.log
No firewalls between the servers, WMI running.
Any suggestions or pointers would be great.

RDS 2012 R2 Gateway two RD SH collection not authorize for application
I have following setup :
I have following setup :
One RDS GW server based on windows 2012 R2
Two RDS CB (HE) and two RDS WEB servers ( NLB).
I have two RDS SH collections Exchange has two distinguished application published.. RD WEB applications are publish, and setup to be available through RD GW.
Let Say following applications are published through RD WEB :
Application Notepad : Available on both RD SH collections.
Application Calc : Available on both RD SH collections.
Application A :available only on RD SH A Collection.
Application B : available only on RD SH B Collection.
Situation is following :
I access RD Web portal remotely. I can not use direct RDP protocol. I open application on RDWeb like Notepad on RD SH A collection. The I open another application calc published on RD SH B collection, but it open it on RD SH A collection. But I have explicitly click on CACL published on RD SH B.
Now if I try to open application B, it will not open it, and it will say that I’m not authorized.
We can revers process and try cith application on RD SH collection B; and I will not be able to open application exclusively published on RD SH Collection A.
But if I save RDP file, and modify that connection string, that does not use Connection broker and connect directly to RD SH server through GW, it work.
Question about policy and access in RD Gateway
RDP to RDP - Clientname
Hi,
we have a RDS-Host "A" from which users start RDP/RemoteApp sessions to RDS-Host "B". The Problem is, all users on RDS-Host "B" end up with the the clientname "A". This generates a problem for one of the programs on"B".
Is there anyway to passthrough the original clientname or do some scripting magic?
many thanks.
Can't open IE 11 for users of my domain
Hi,
I have prepared a windows 2012 server standard r2, acting as remote desktop server
At the beginning, all is ok but now (after some win updates ????), my users can't open IE 11
I have a blank page for 5-6 seconds and then ie 11 closes.
I have tested several tips :
- started with -extoff : can' start
- started as Administrator with domain Administror : It works but it's not a solution
- nothing in events browser (sometimes DCOM timeout with the CLSID of IE but not each time I try)
- creating a new local account : can't start
- adding membership of domains administrators for one of my users -> can't start
How can I fix this problem
Any ideas ?
I'm not really happy to reformat my server just for that problem
Best regards

RDS 2012 R2 - Allow Some Users Multiple Logon Sessions and Restrict Other Users to a Single Session
In Server 2012 R2 RDS, is there a way to allow some users to log on multiple times, but restrict other users to a single logon? On an OU or AD group basis?
I know there is a GPO setting under Computer Configuration for restricting users to a single logon, but this does not allow me to differentiate on a user basis (only on a per server basis).
Thanks,
James
Server 2012 R2 RDS- Only want the Session Host, Connection Broker and Licensing Server!
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has experience with implementing Remote Desktop Services (RDS) on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I am doing an RDS design for a platform where we only need an RDS Session Host, Licensing Server and Connection Broker. We do not need web access as these servers will simply be jump boxes internally!
However, implementing this correctly in our test environment has proved to be tricky. The options are:
- Use the Server Manager and do a traditional install via Roles and Features ( specifically add the Session Host, Licensing Server and Connection Broker). The installation process seems to go through ok in this scenario but when I head over to the Remote Desktop Services section of the Server Manager I simply get the message 'An RDS Deployment does not exist in the server pool. To create a deployment head to Roles and Features'.
- Use the specific ‘Remote Desktop Services installation’ option on the Server Manager and do a Session Based Desktop deployment and Quick Start. This installation process seems to go through correctly and the Remote Desktop Section seems to be working correctly via the Server Manager. However this process is ‘hard locked’ i.e. it installs the session host, web access and connection broker. I can then remove the web access component later from Roles/ Features.
Is there a best practice (if any) for installation? i.e. Will there be any issues down the line if I remove RDS Web Access from my server while following method 2?
There is a complete lack of documentation from Microsoft here so not sure what to do! Just need a basic RDS session based deployment.
RDS 2012 with Azure MFA sending two SMS/phone Calls
We have a new RDS 2012 farm with separate Gateway, Broker and Session servers. we have this configured to use Azure MFA which seems to work but the user is sent two text messages when they try to log in. We think this is due to the user first authenticating with the Broker and then a second time when they connect to their Session Host server. I'm pretty sure we have something set incorrectly but not sure what?
Many thanks

Windows Server 2012 R2 RemoteApp Disconnected
Hello,
I have come across with the RemoteApp Disconnected Error when I tried to connect RDWeb and open the Application. The text of Error is as you can see below:
"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to. Contact your network administrator for assistance."
I have searched many ways to fix this error but still couldn’t find a solution.
Please may you help me to fix this issue? What could it be the reason of this error?
Thank you for your help in advance.
P.S: Client computer Window 8, Host(Remote) Windows Server 2012 R2. It was working without problem 1 week ago. During this week, I have just changed External IP adress. Apart from that, I didn’t even start the Server. I don’t use Router or Firewall.
Mac change after update
This might not be the right place to ask but here it goes. We run a 2012 R2 RDS environment however whenever updates happen our vdis all change MAC address. Why is this happening? Is my only solution to go manually change the addresses from Dynamic to static? What is best practice here? When i spin up new machines those will probably be dynamic also... anyway to change those?
Thanks for any help
Design of RDS infrastructure
hi there,
I've been asked to look at a design of a new RDS infrastructure for a new office.
It will have 300-400 users and should be fault tolerant where possible. They will have new servers and SAN and we will be using win 2012r2.
In terms of the connection broker I understand this requires a SQL database. Can anyone suggest how this should be architected. i.e. should there be a failover cluster (always on), should it have NLB?
I'd be interested to hear thoughts on this.
Thanks

Client side Multi Monitor issue
I have 2 servers that make up my RDS environment. Both are Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter, fully patched. THe first server holds all roles except the RD Session Host role, that is on the second server. I have configured the Client Settings properties of the Session Collection to support a maximum of 4 monitors and it works fine. I have 4 monitors, and when I make a RDS connection to the Gateway server it opens and spans all 4 monitors.
The question I have is; what if I only want the session to open on one of my monitors? Can I control this? We are using the Web Interface to connect to the gateway, that in turn connects to the session host.
TIA, Larry
