RDS vSwitch not created in wizard

I have a desktop installed with window server 2012. I installed Connectify to create a wifi hotspot, and added active domain role on it with domain abc.com .

Then, on another laptop installed with window server 2012, I connect to the wifi hotspot, and joined the domain abc.com. I then installed hyper-V. After restart, I installed RDS (All 3 roles on same computer) and during wizard, i ticked the checkbox to create new v-switch. However, unlike every post i found, the RDS v-switch is not created. (On this laptop, I have 2 network card, one is cable, one is wifi. The cable port is not connected to anything, wifi is connected to the wifi hotspot mentioned earlier.)

I need this vSwitch for my template vm to create a collection of managed pool desktop. I tried creating the vSwitch manually but I have no idea how to configure the network and it didnt work. Can anyone tell me why is the RDS v-switch not created?

ps: I also tried installing a loopback adapter, configure it with dummy Ip without gateway, and then run the add RDS role wizard. The v-switch is still not created even though i ticked the checkbox to create new v-switch.

Remote Desk top Process Flow

We will be using a new application that is hosted externally to our organization.  The we will be using a dedicated network connection to the hosting site. The hosting site has it's own Application Servers, terminal servers, and Ad Domain controllers.   We will be connecting to the the hosted application using the Remote Desk Top Client on Desktop Computers that are on our own internal AD Domain.

I would like to understand high level Process Flow for Remote Desk Client Authentication Against Active Directory.   Are there any resources available that could assist assist me to understand the process.

We have some concerns.

Thanks

Icon at C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop\ not showing for users

I have a domain-joined Windows 2012 R2 server with Remote Desktop services installed. It's the only RD session host in a collection. I'm using sessions on servers, not VDI, not RemoteApp.

Domain users placed in the groups given access to the Session Collection can log into the server and use it fine, but shortcuts/documents at C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop\ do NOT show on the desktop of some of these users.

I'm looking for reasons why this might be the case. I've tried changing permissions on the folder chain without success.

Certficate warnings

Hi,

I've had some certificate warnings in the past and thought it was a good idea to fix it by assigning my public wildcard certificate to my internal RDSH servers.
as it turned out in this topic https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6a70ed2e-46af-4891-92ff-c8bab6ec94a3/customrdpproperty-use-redirection-server-name?forum=winserverTS it wasn't that good idea.

So that was rolled back.

But now the certificate warnings are back.
'This certificate is not from a trusted authority'

When I take a look at the certificate that is linked to the RDP-TCP listener it was issued to server1.domain.local and issued by server1.domain.local.
We have an internal CA, but that is currently not set up to provide certificates automatically.

To get rid of these warnings I need to request a certificate from the CA and again change the certificate linked to the RDP-TCP listener. (http://www.vkernel.ro/blog/replace-the-default-self-signed-certificate-on-a-rd-session-host-server)

Or is there a better way?

RDS Cal Licenses not recognized

Available and Issued should add up to 10, but is instead showing 0 available, 0 issued, and using “Built-in-overused” instead of the legitimate CAL.

This causes an error in the licensing diagnose:

Hi

I have several users that are having issues with caps lock being out of sync with their local keyboard when in a Server 2008 R2 RDP session.  Their local keyboard shows the caps lock light as on but they type in lower case, when they press the caps lock key and the light goes off they are then typing in upper case.

Our set up is Wyse Z90 (2nd Gen) Thinclient which has the most recent firmware/drivers and image from the Wyse website installed.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

We have 2 RDS Servers (2012R2) and work With User Profile Disks

We use outlook cached mode (Outlook 2013 SP1) because the link to our head office is to slow

The problem is that the outlook search isn't working properly.

Every time the users logs on, search indexes are recreated
This proces never finishes because the server is under a constant load, therefore search never works as it should.

In eventvwr, we see this error alot:

Crawl could not be completed on content source <winrt://{S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx}/>.

control client printer redirection per user on server side (windows server 2012 r2)

Is it possible to Control Client Printer mapping per user (on Server side)?

I know it's possible to set Client Printer redirection (on/off) for rds Connection on host. Is it possible to add another rds Connection to a rds host on Windows Server 2012 r2? With Windows Server 2008 R2 it could be done via terminal Service configuration mmc, but I cannot find this Feature in Windows Server 2012 r2 Server Manager.

Thank you.

NULL SID Security Log Event ID 4625 when attempting logon to 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host

This is a new deployment of Server 2008 R2 in a newly created 08 R2 active directory on a newlyt installed 08 R2 RDSH server.

A new generic user is created in AD. That user can log on to the terminal server on the console just fine. But that user cannot logon via RDP. Furthermore, the domain admin credentials also cannot logon via RDP.

When either set of credentials is used, the logon attempt registered in the Windows Security Even Log as a denied attempt with Event ID 4625 reporting a NULL SID.

Troubleshooting: The RDSH has already been disjoined and rejoined to the domain. Also, curious note, there are three ways to save the user account on the RDSH server as a valid user account which has permissions to logon. The one Microsoft recommends is to open computer management and edit the remote desktop users group. When I the accounts here and click apply, they immediately dissapear. Secondly, I can open the computer properties and go to the remote tab. There I find the user accounts added using the previous method are enumerated but not displaying correctly. They show up with the RDSH server name and a question mark. The last way, is to open the Remote Desktop Session Configuration tool and edit the properties of the rdp connection and go to the security tab. This was the only place I could get a user to ‘stick’ but the logon attempts still show a NULL SID and access is denied.

I have scoured every bit of RDS documenation I can find with no luck.

Thanks,
Chris

This issue started happening 2 days ago. Environment has been running stable for 2 years. When a new user logs in a UPD is not created.  Existing users log in just fine and have UPD.  What could be stopping the creation of the UPD?

Port 3389 not listening

Windows Server 2003R2. Terminal Services is installed and started. Remote Desktop is Enabled. In the Terminal Services Manager session window, RDP-TCP is shown as being in a listening state. But when I run netstat -a, port 3389 does not show up. RD client cannot connect. Telnet or ssh to that port does not connect.

TCP is working fine: I can use logmein to view the server; I can VPN to the server, I can look at SMB shares once the VPN is up. No TCP filtering is active. The Windows Firewall is not active.

How can I get port 3389 going and be able to RDP in?

The registry is still showing port 3389 as the listening port.

I have removed and re-created the RDP-tcp port without any trouble and without success. The properties are set on defaults.

Remote Desktop devices in the device manager show as operating fine.

It used to work fine and just recently (sometime in January) it stopped working. As far as I know, no new software was installed at that time.

I have reviewed a bunch of stuff found in Google but none of it seems to help, so far.

Hello,

I'm receiving warning messages from one of the Exchange mailbox servers:

Process powershell.exe (). <Domain controller name> is a read-only domain controller. Exchange Active Directory Provider requires that domain controllers are not read-only.

My question is can I define a different DC to be used instead of the RODC ?

RDP (Remote Desktop) to Windows 10 without passwords not possible anymore. Bug or feature?

$

After upgrading two of my machines to Windows 10 (Education N clean install and Pro N upgrade from Win8.1), I was not able to set up Remote Desktop as I was used to since Windows 7 (maybe this was possible before, too).

I am used to configure Windows to allow RDP connections as a user without password (home usage only). Apparently this is not working anymore after upgrading to Windows 10. (I have enabled this by modifying secpol.msc 's security policies. Further informations provided if needed).

With the "no password" setup i get immediatly disconnected by the local machine which seems to auto login by itself after connecting via RDP. The only solution I managed to find so far was to set up a password.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Cheers

TS client's printout going to another TS client's printer -- HOW?

The clients belong to two different companies that both utilize our TS on 2012R1. We have made no changes to the server in 3-4 months and this just started happening this week. It has happened 3 or 4 times that we know of. There are 300-500 clients on the TS at any given time. Th TS client sessions are configured with a single startup program so they do not have access to the desktop.

Remote-App lost focus / Screen/Window jumping

$

Hi everybody,

we have a new Terminal Server with Remote-Apps and a very interesting problem.

Host: ESXi 5.5

Guest: Windows Server 2012 R2

Remoteapp: CAS (not importend, all Remote-Apps have the problem)

Client-OS: Win7 and Win 8.1

Now the problem:

A Remote-App is started on a client - this works fine. The Remote-App opens a lot of windows (new mail, customer informations and so on) and it happens that the active windows lost the focus and jumps into the background and another windows is in front with the focus.

The problem is not reproducible and with this caution it is not possible to work with the Remote-App.

I found following hotfix (http://support.micro...b/2964832/en-us) but it is not applicable to the clients.

If somebody needs additional information, i will be available.

Thanks for your help and time!

Kind regards

User Profile Service event id 1530 with every remote desktop logout

$

I've been receiving User Profile Service event id 1530 with nearly every logout from an rdp session.  Our environment is Windows 2008 R2 64 bit running on Citrix XenServer 5.5.  RDP is in remote administration mode.  Tested with and without Windows updates applied.  No additional printers added, no connection to a domain.

Because the environment is virtual, I've been able to try many combinations and have narrowed it down to this: When Windows 2008 R2 has a single processor, the event does not occur.  When I give the virtual server two processors, the event occurs with nearly every RDP logout.  Same results with or without XenTools installed.  I do not have the resources to test the single/multi processor difference on physical hardware.

Any insights would be appreciated. I've posted the full event as well as information about the process that is mentioned in the event.

RDS Server 2016 RemoteFX - Nvidia Grid K1 - no improvement

$

I have gotten a server set up with Windows Server 2016 TP4, and deployed RDS on the server. I installed several applications that use several different rendering technologies (including OpenGL), and I am seeing no difference from RDS 2012 R2, even though I have enabled 1Gb of RAM for the graphics. The video card shows up on the client VM as Microsoft RemoteFX Graphics Device - WDDM, and is not recognized by any of the applications as a compatible card, so they have problems with hardware acceleration. For example, AutoCad 2016 does not allow me to enable hardware acceleration because it says my graphics card is not compatible. It is the same experience that we get when using RDS on Windows Server 2012R2.

On the server, we are running an Nvidia Grid K1, which is the top recommendation from Microsoft. I was not able to install the latest Nvidia driver, because it says the OS was not compatible. The only driver I was able to install successfully looks like it was from 7/2/2014 - 340.52. This is the only thing I could think of that would not allow RemoteFX to function properly. If this is most likely the cause of the issue, any information on a workaround would be great. I have tried to manually install the driver through Device Management, but it says that the driver is not compatible also.

I know my question is not specific, but I'm hoping that if nothing else, Microsoft becomes aware that the advertised improvements in 2016TP are not working - at least in our environment. I would have thought there would have been much more documentation about workarounds that might be required for the Grid K1, since that is the top recommended card, but I found nothing - Nvidia doesn't even mention 2016TP. My thought is that if the issue is the graphics driver, then Microsoft would have had to work closely with Nvidia on the driver, and there would be documentation somewhere.

I have been looking forward to the RemoteFX improvements in 2016 for many months, so it is pretty disappointing that I'm not seeing any change in performance.

Printer Redirection Not Working on Terminal Server

$

Hello,

We have a pair of Windows 2008 servers that are running terminal services and all of the sudden we are no longer able to print to redirected printers on these servers.  We do, however, have other servers in the network where printer redirection is working no problem.

The same domain controller pair is in use for the terminal servers where the problem exists and for the servers where it does not exist.

We can add printers if we add the printer manually without the printer redirect working which makes sense but the redirects stopped working while no admins were present to make any changes that would affect this.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions as we've tried everything we can find on technet short rebooting.

Thanks.

RDP Black Screen

$

Hi,

We have two Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS servers and one session broker since about a year back with about 30 users daily is working on.

Since yesterday four users on both servers have experienced a black screen while logging in through RDP, and my first though was a client side problem with persistent bitmap cache, but this is not the case. I've tried the following without success:

  • Disable persistent bitmap cache.
  • Change RDP client colors, resolutions and performance settings.
  • Using multiple client computers to connect from.
  • Force logoff the user and reconnect.
  • Ctrl + Alt + End does nothing, if I repeatedly press this with a combination of escape and mouse clicks, the picture sometimes appears. But almost half the screen is still a black strip, and any windows places her can not be seen. Opening up Metro start menu also makes the screen completely black.
  • Removing the synchronized user profile on the RDS session host and let it synchronize the next logon.
  • Change Windows theme on the RDS server.

What seems to work is making the user domain administrator and connecting with mstsc /admin, after doing this it continue working without these permissions and the console session.

No changes have been made the last weeks on the servers, and it has been working before. The event log gives me no information what so ever.

What can I do more to find the cause of this, and solve it permanently? I fear more users will call regarding this during the day.

Thanks.
