Outlook Slow

$

Hi All

Background: I run an environment of around 8 RDS 2012R2 Session hosts on 3 physical ESXI hosts. I have around 120 users logged onto RDS using Office on the session hosts as well as a 3rd party broker software. The physical hosts and vms easily have enough resource (CPU/Memory/IOPS etc) to handle the load. I run Office 2013 on majority of session hosts but a couple now have Office 2016 (session hosts are split between collections and security groups). The RDS environment/DCs/Exchange servers and all other vm servers run on the same physical ESXI hosts/same local network connection.

Exchange VM has 20GB Mem/2 CPUs and plenty of disk space. RDS Session Hosts have 20GB Mem and 4 vCPUs. During peak hours RDS severs and Exchange peak at around 60-70% of resources max!

Applications are deployed via remoteapp via RDWeb but i have tested the issue below by rdp direct to a session host.

Exchange version is 2013 CU 11

So now to the problem. Ongoing, we have been experiencing slow RDS Outlook performance. Outlook runs in on-line mode and intermittently navigating between emails/clicking emails, displaying a preview of that email can sometimes have a delay of 5-10 seconds. 10 minutes later and the performance has gone back to normal. It appears to only affect clicking between emails because if i then compose an email or click into menus, performance is normal.

I found this article and tried the reg key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces) but this hasn't fixed the issue. If I check connection status in Outlook when performance is slow, Avg Resp times are well below 100 ms.

I am really at a loss to what is causing the issue as everything else performs fine. I have tested local Outlook on my PC and performance is good. I am starting to look into changing to cached mode in RDS which I have tested and "resolves the issue" but then I have to think about local large .ost's and roaming profiles and backups and multiple session hosts etc which will be a nightmare.

Hi Microsoft.

I am looking for advantages and arguments to implement more than 2 RDCB in HA.

My costumer i asking if more than 2 RDCB will allow the solution access for more users.

I cant seem to any documentation on adding more RDCB in an Enterprise environment, and the benefits.

Are there anyone out there with enterprise knowledge that can assist with experience?

Printing sorted over remote desktop / terminal server

$

Hello.

We have a customer that uses a terminal server (windows server 2012 R2).
Office users connect thru remote desktop for normal use.
Most printers are installed on the serverside and no issue's there.

The reception however has a local printer (HP 2055d) over USB.
So she uses this one for some documents that are for her eyes only.
Computer OS is windows 7 pro 64bit.

Problem that happens is when she wants to printed sorted. So a contract that has to be printed 2 times. She wants page 1,2,3 and then page 1,2,3. if she does it local with a pdf or notepad it works. If she does it from the remote desktop session it's not sorting. It's printing, but not sorting, so page 1,1,2,2,3,3. I thought it was the printer but at my office with a different (hp) server that is connected over the network (IP) it also isn't working when connected to the terminal server.

When connected to a different server (the file server / dc) it IS working as expected.

I have installed latest HP Universal Printer Driver on the local client, and @ the terminal server.

What could be the reason sorted printing is not working?

RDS 2012 R2 certificate limitation?

$

I'm currently using an internal Active Directory certificate with all of the SANs included (9 total).  Everything seems to work fine thus far.  I want to switch to a 3rd party certificate in order to make the Firefox experience more streamlined.   Is the following limitation still a factor when using a SAN certificate vs. a wildcard certificate?

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn781533.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

This certificate approach works as long as you have five or fewer servers in your deployment. If you have more servers, you can’t use the Subject Alternate Name field (it is limited to just five servers). Instead, you need to get a wildcard certificate to cover all the servers in the deployment.

Thanks!

RDC version 7.1 vs. RDC version 8.1

Hello,

I have new 2012 RDS enviornments with 2012 r2 gateways and 2012 session host. From Windows 7 machines, Ive been telling customers to use the latest client RDC 8.1 which works great. It wont work with RDC 7.1 which is fine.

Besides new features in the new clients and in windows 2012 R2, is there a scenario where rdc 7.1 might work connecting through a 2012 R2 gateway?

I was just curious as to exactly why 7.1 will not work. Is it just the new features, or does it have to with crypto as well?

I was thinking it might have to do with 7.1 using RPc over HTTP and 2012 R2 doesnt do that anymore.

Thanks

How to use work folder with Remote Desktop 2012 R2

$

We have deployed Work Folder for our user with Folder redirection for some folder like desktop or documents.

This work well however when those user need to connect to the Remote Desktop Server, they have no way to access their document since the folder redirection will point to the right location, but will not sync with the server copy since there is no Work Folder client for R2012 R2.

So since Work Folder is deployed per gpo, using a user gpo, there is no way to detect using the GPO if the user is logging to his laptop or the RDS session, therefore beside using loginscript, I have no way to fix that, or create a different folder redirection base on the computer.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Having a problem with one server in an HA Remote Deskop Services config that is throwing, "An authentication error has occurred (Code: 0x607)

I have 2 servers that have all the RD roles installed on them (only one has licensing). Users have no problem logging into the RDWeb page on both.  When they connect to a session collection that includes two server, depending on when they hit the button, they might or might not get the one server that works. Server 1 lets them right in. Server 2 gives them an error at the very end of the process -- An Authentication error has occurred (Code: 0x607). Remote Computer: Server-1. This is causing my client a bit of frustration so I am having the remote directly into the server using RDP files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Local domain able to connect through the RDGateway but not the domain connected by a two-way trust

Currently, I am running 2 servers in a High Availability config.  Both have NAP installed.  Users in the local domain have no issue getting through the RD Gateway.  We have another domain connected by VPN and a 2-way trust.  The users from this connected domain do not get authenticated.  I have tried both through the Web Access page and directly through RDC (with both the domain\username andusername@domain format).  Also, I can do a "runas" command with the connected domain user and have no problem authenticating.  I have added both of the gateway servers to both AD domains RAS and IAS servers group.  When I user attempts to log in, I get this error (#6274) in the Event Viewer / Security logs:

Shadowing to different port

$

Hi,

I have an issue with shadowing, in that it doesnt work. Our IT provider insist on changing the RDP listening port to non default, eg 2888, so in order to RDP to a server I have to use 10.10.10.10:2888 in the mstsc gui, for command line this works fine too and I have setup RDS correctly to use this for the clients.

However when it comes to shadowing, it doesnt seem to work. I assume that the default shadow command just tries to connect to 3389

for example "mstsc /shadow:4 /control /V:10.10.10.10"

This brings up the accept dialogue for the user, but when they accept, nothing happens.

If I use "mstsc /V:10.10.10.10:2888" I can RDP to the server without any problem.

However if I use "mstsc /shadow:4 /control /V:10.10.10.10:2888" to shadow a user, it doesnt work and says invalid server name

what am i doing wrong?

Thanks

Licenses are not available for this Remote Desktop Session Host server. Try to install Remote Desktop Licensing, but it was failed.

I also try to fix windows update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool as below, there are no errors found.

What else I should try in order to install remote desktop licensing role.

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

TS client's printout going to another TS client's printer -- HOW?

The clients belong to two different companies that both utilize our TS on 2012R1. We have made no changes to the server in 3-4 months and this just started happening this week. It has happened 3 or 4 times that we know of. There are 300-500 clients on the TS at any given time. Th TS client sessions are configured with a single startup program so they do not have access to the desktop.
