The computer can't verify the identity of the RD Gateway Server. It's not safe to connect to servers that can't be identified.

Hello all,

I'm attempting to setup TS Gateway in an environment.  After configuring Terminal Services, the RDC client, etc, etc.... I receive the error message stated in my subject line.

Here is the setup:

-External facing router with IP address of (not real) 10.10.10.1
-TS Gateway server named TS.SERVER.COM
-Edited the hosts file on the client to include an entry for 10.10.10.1 as TSG.SERVER.COM

I created the certificate for TS.SERVER.COM and specified it in TS Gateway Manager.

The RDC client is configured on a laptop (Windows 7):

'General' tab > 'Logon Setting' > 'Computer': TS.SERVER.COM
'Advanced' tab > 'Settings' > 'Use these RD Gateway server settings' > 'Server Name': TSG.SERVER.COM --- (ask for password)

Upon attempting to connect, I get the error message and have the ability to view the certificate.  It pulls the certificate information from the TS Gateway server, but when I click 'View Certificate', I see 'Windows does not have enough information to verify this certificate'.  So, just for S&G's, I exported and imported the certificate to the TS client and still got the error message.

I have never used Windows 7 as the TS client, but I am curious if there are any compatibility issues since the RDC client asks for RD Gateway information and not TS Gateway specifically.  I know they are essentially the same thing, but RD Services is a bit different than TS in Server 2008 R2.

Can anyone provide any guidance?  Hoping I'm missing something as opposed to compatibility issues.

Thanks in advance,

MDH

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

Windows 2012 R2 as terminal server

Hi

How easy is it to turn a Windows Server 2012 std R2 cloud VM server into a terminal server to run win apps for multiple users? Also is there a spec guideline per user? The remote server is provided by a hosting company so we have only as much control.

Thanks

Issues with RD Gateway and NLB

Hi,

I'm trying to configure a RD Gateway farm using Windows Server NLB. I've got everything to function as expected. But the UDP connections often ends up on the other gateway server.

Example: One user has a TCP connection on Gateway 1 and the UDP connections on Gateway 2. What should I do to avoid this? Can this cause any issues? I've tried to change the affinity settings and "Network" results in the fastest connection.

My configuration details below.

Cluster ip: xx.xx.xx.30
Operation mode: Multicast
Port Rules:
All IP:s
Port range: 443 - 443
Protocol: 443
Affinity: Network

Gateway 1 ip: xx.xx.xx.31

Gateway 2 ip: xx.xx.xx.32

Thanks in advance

Best regards

Markus

Edit: all servers are running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

no remote desktop license servers

I used to be able to do a remote connection to my win server 2012. All of a sudden, when I try, I get the following message.

"Remote session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop servers"

What does this means and how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help.                               Gabe Ruiz

On the server I got a message bubble pop up which reads;

"On the rd connection broker server, use server manager to specify the remote desktop licensing mode and the licensing server.  My Intel hardware has Win Server 2012 R2 installed.  The only role enabled is Virtualization.  Under it there are two virtual machines. each Win server 2012 R2 with SQL server installed.  The only reason I need RD is to access the SQL server instances in both virtual machines.  Maybe there is a better way of doing this.      Thanks for all your help.

Sharing RDS Gateway and RDS Web/HTTPS in the same OS - WIN2012R2

$

i´m testing a RDS std deployment, using 3 servers:

Server01 - Broker, Web & Gateway AND Server02 and Server03 - RDS Host/TS

Of course sharing Web and Gateway in the same machine is not a best practice, but let´s take into account is a dev/test/learn enviroment. 5 years ago i built the exact same thing using TS/WIN2008R2 and worked well for many years

In the TS/Win2008 i´ve changed the desktops.aspx file, changing the "gatewayusagemethod" from "2" to "1"

(as stated by: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh994953.aspx 1 Use the Remote Desktop gateway specified by the "gatewayhostname" property. 2 Automatically detect the Remote Desktop gateway server settings.)

OK, but i couldn´t remeber what i did 5 years ago, so i browsed the web and found a lot of different solutions to the same case (i´m trying to reproduce the sharing of the services in Win2012R2)

Here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731465.aspx) there is a procedure related to changes in DefaultTSGateway and GatewayCredentialsSource

Here (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2008/08/19/forcing-the-remote-desktop-option-in-ts-web-access-to-use-ts-gateway/) there is a procedure related to changes in "TSGateway" IIS Application Setting"

Here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770330.aspx) there is a procedure related to changes in Forms Authentication

I´m not entirely sure, but my OLD TS Server has no change in DefaultTSGateway  and GatewayCredentialsSource

My OLD TS Server has no IIS Application Setting configured, the TSGateway Application Config is empty (using the word "Local", probably the same if i type the FQDN of the gateway)

My OLD TS Server has no forms authentications enabled and works well.

So, in my case, my OLD TS Server has only the gatewayusagemethod parameter in desktops.aspx and , as far as i know, only that and works well.

Can i make the same change in Win2012Rs and it will work?

Hi Guys,

I have a strange issue with a Terminal server that's setup to run RemoteApps.

I need to use RDP to remote in to run other programs and get the following

"Error - The system cannot find the file specified.  This initial program cannot be started: C:\shared\databuild data\conquest.exe"

and then when you click ok, it logs off straight after.

I cant figure this one out.  Any help will be appreciated.

Remote Desktop Services Gateway disconnects all connections every hour

We have just setup a Remote Desktop Services infrastructure using Windows Server 2012 R2.  Every hour on the 56th minute (Ex. 7:56, 8:56, 9:56, etc.), the connection to either a virtual desktop or a remote desktop connection through the gateway is disconnected. It attempts to reconnect the session for the next three minutes, but stability is not guaranteed until after the 59th minute in the hour.

I have reviewed the CAP and RAP policies and see no issues there.  I have reviewed the logs including the TerminalServices-Gateway logs and see no errors other than informational messages like this:

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-Gateway/Operational

Shadowing a user with multiple screens on RDS Server 2012R2

$

We have an RDS set up running on Server 2012R2 where a lot of our users have multiple screens.  When shadowing these users the 2 screens will be shrunk to 1 window. This makes assisting these usersvery tricky sometimes!

Is there a hidden feature somewhere to disable this feature so that we accomplish one, or both, of these scenarios:

- Shadowing a user with 2 screens should result in a window where you can scroll between the 2 screens
- Shadowing a user with 2 screens should allow me to span the session across my own 2 monitors

Preferably I'll have the shadow session on my 1 screen and I scroll between the two. This allows me to access my own information whilst I'm assisting a user. However having it span across the 2 monitors would be a workable solution.

This is what we currently get: http://i.imgur.com/YVrBzsj.png
As you can see the session's rather small and, depending on the application, not very easy to support.

Deployed printers wont stay set as default

Using RDS 2012 R2 server, we are deploying 4 or so printers via group policy.

When a user sets them to default printer and logs off, when they log back on the default has changed to another non mapped printer (local printer).

Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session is enabled in GPO.

Tested the same outcome on a 2008 r2 non rds server as well.

All of a sudden all RDS users cannot print on any redirected printers on a Windows Server 2012R2 (Local, not AD DC).  Printers appear on server devices and printers.  Print jobs appear in queue on server, then on local device, but disappear from queues without printing.  Behavior the same for multiple computers, Windows 7, and 8, all users, including administrators.  Easy Print installed.  Working on this for hours with no luck. Any help or suggestions appreciated!

Essential server 2012 r2 RDS deployment to second server - what rds roles go where?

Ok I have Windows server essentials 2012 r2 installed as the DC and ran through the Anywhere access setup using an MS account to save on the certificate. So far so good.

I have added to the domain a second server 2012 R2 std to be used by 5 remote workers. This is to be the RDS server.

I have been doing a lot of head scratching on where to install the rds deployment and which server requires which roles.

I think the gateway needs to stay on the DC but I read that once essentials is a DC you cannot add rds services. If I run the rds setup on the second server (which I presume is right) which roles do I install and how does the gateway on the DC know to connect incoming connections to it?

I also read the license server for my 5 rds cals should be on the Essential server but how?

I can't find a setup guide for this which I would have thought is a fairly common usage?

hope someone can help!

Hi!

We have a Windows 2008 Terminal Server in a workgroup. We need to disable internet for Remote Desktop Users but there is no option to add proxy server under Local Group Policy.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

how i can license this

I have 3 very strong desktop pc’s here and I want to run 3 terminals to each one so that would make a total of 9 terminals using a remote desktop kind of solution.

I need a bit of guidance regarding licensing for the remote desktop session on each desktop and obviously the terminals would have to be wireless so they could connect to the network and mouse and keyboard.

I am not looking at spending thousands, Just a simple solution regarding the 9 terminals connecting to the 3 desktops via the network.
