Add RemoteApp Collection (Work Resource) to a Specified/another account then current user

Hello!

As topic says.
I want to add a RemoteApp Work Resource for a specified credentials.

Ive tried with runas command, powershell etc etc.

For a limited time i had it to work with the following setup:

1. Add connection based on the current users credentials (as designed + GPO as passthrough with local credentials etc.)
rundll32.exe tsworkspace,WorkspaceSilentSetup \\DomainName.local\netlogon\url\url\remoteapps.wcx

2.  Add specified credentials in credential manager for that specified resource.
cmdkey /add:TERMSRV/SERVER.DOMAINNAME.local /User:Domain\admin-%username% /Pass

3. Then reload the Work resource in control panel and the new resoruces with the new credentials are updated.
Lately after some time and updates this does not work anymore.
So if anyone have a better solution then manually adding the URL to the RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx and specify the account is gladly welcome to contribute.

Windows 2012 R2
Windows 10 Enterprise
Users have their user accounts and some have specified Enterprise accounts i want to push RDS app to them over their admin account.

Any tip i mosty welcome!
Thanks

Port 3389 not listening

Windows Server 2003R2. Terminal Services is installed and started. Remote Desktop is Enabled. In the Terminal Services Manager session window, RDP-TCP is shown as being in a listening state. But when I run netstat -a, port 3389 does not show up. RD client cannot connect. Telnet or ssh to that port does not connect.

TCP is working fine: I can use logmein to view the server; I can VPN to the server, I can look at SMB shares once the VPN is up. No TCP filtering is active. The Windows Firewall is not active.

How can I get port 3389 going and be able to RDP in?

The registry is still showing port 3389 as the listening port.

I have removed and re-created the RDP-tcp port without any trouble and without success. The properties are set on defaults.

Remote Desktop devices in the device manager show as operating fine.

It used to work fine and just recently (sometime in January) it stopped working. As far as I know, no new software was installed at that time.

I have reviewed a bunch of stuff found in Google but none of it seems to help, so far.

Hi all,

Not built an RDS farm from the ground up for a few years so a little rusty

Server 2016 Standard

RDSGW1 10.100.0.1

RDSGW2 10.100.0.2

RDSBKR1 10.100.0.3

RDSBKR2 10.100.0.4

RDSSH1 10.100.0.5

RDSSH2 10.100.0.6

Broker HA is enabled to a SQL2014 farm using BKR.contoso.com

Collections (Full Desktop) are:

SiteA (RDSSH1): UserGroup "StaffA"

SiteB (RDSSH2): UserGroup "StaffB"

DNS Records

BKR.contoso.com 10.100.0.3 & 10.1000.4

RDS.contoso.com - 10.100.0.5 & 10.100.0.6

I am led to believe that DNS round robin should be pointing to the SH servers and not the BKRs

When StaffB users connect to RDS.contoso.com they are being logged onto SRVRDS1.  How is that possible when the collection groups are set not to allow this?

If I try getting them to log onto BKR.contoso.com they log straight onto the broker servers

My understanding is that the connection should go to any one of the SH servers, then onto the brokers, then back to the correct SH server.

Thanks!!

Assigning 2012 RDS user CAL licenses fails - nesting 'terminal server license servers' group

$

My 2012 terminal server license servers are a member of a global security group called TS License Servers. This group is then a member of the builtin Terminal Server License Servers group.

Licenses are NOT being assigned to users and causing the error "The Remote Desktop license server cannot update the license attributes for user "mark foo" in the Active Directory Domain "internal.thecloudguy.info". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group in Active Directory domain "internal.thecloudguy.info".

As soon as i make the server a direct member of the group, the error goes away.

I could not find any documentation that suggests nested groups are not supported. Is this a bug? I require this functionality because i need to add license servers dynamically to the Terminal Server License Servers group across multiple trusted forests. License servers will be added to the one group that will already be a member of the builtin group in each domain.

My user use Access 2010 as an front-end. The old server can ran the Access finish within about 40 min. but the new one, WS2012R2, took around 4 Hrs. to finish the same file.

The Access has link tables from other Access File and Oracle DB (via ODBC). The server workload is very light.

Environment:-------------------------------

Server: Windows Server 2012 R2 (VM guest)

Physical: 18 cores x 2 socket

Guest server: 14 cores assigned with 60GB of memory

Please anyone advice me and thank you in advance

Terminal server 2012 : Can we disable windows updates in the control panel ?

$

Hi,

I was wondering if it's common practice for companies to disable windows updates completely in the control panel on a terminal server ?

Or should we disable them another way ?

Can we encounter issues afterwards when we do need updates ? (we would temporary re-enable it in the control panel and disable it afterwards)

Thank you

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS with Active Directory on the same server

$

First of all, I know this topic has been discussed everywhere, but I feel like my case is slightly different from others.

First of all, in our company, we have one physical server running with Windows Server 2012 and Active Directory running on it (with about 20 users). We have some services that client computers need to access through Remote Connection, the regular Remote Desktop Client connection would be totally fine, but as I understand, without the RDS Role we cannot have more than 2 connections simultaneously (+ admin).

The problem is that 1) I know RDS on AD is not recommended and considered a big security risk and 2) I cannot get the service to run properly anyway.

Since I don't need most of the features that RDS comes with anyway, is there a way I can just install one or two roles that it requires, so we can have more connections (I have the RDS CAL license for it).

If it's possible, which roles of RDS are necessary for such type of a setup?

Best regards,

Rauno

OpenGL 4.4 support for vGPU in Windows Server 2016

$

Hello,

I just installed a Windows 10 Professional client in Hyper-V on a Windows Server 2016 host.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 with the latest drivers installed.

I followed following instructions to enable OpenGL support:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/31771.experience-guide-for-enabling-opengl-support-for-vgpu-in-server-2016.aspx

Unfortunately I only get OpenGL 1.1 instead of 4.4.

Is there anything else to set up in order to get OpenGL 4.4 running?

Thanks a lot for all your help!

Best regards,
Marco

RDP (Remote Desktop) to Windows 10 without passwords not possible anymore. Bug or feature?

$

After upgrading two of my machines to Windows 10 (Education N clean install and Pro N upgrade from Win8.1), I was not able to set up Remote Desktop as I was used to since Windows 7 (maybe this was possible before, too).

I am used to configure Windows to allow RDP connections as a user without password (home usage only). Apparently this is not working anymore after upgrading to Windows 10. (I have enabled this by modifying secpol.msc 's security policies. Further informations provided if needed).

With the "no password" setup i get immediatly disconnected by the local machine which seems to auto login by itself after connecting via RDP. The only solution I managed to find so far was to set up a password.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Cheers

Problem reconfiguring Remote Desktop Services after changing domains

$

Hello everyone,

I have a remote desktop services server under Windows Server 2012 that only publishes one application. All of the roles are on this server. The AD domain that this server is currently a member of is in the process of being decommissioned. I need to remove this server from its current domain and add it to the main domain and get RDS to function again. All of the AD users/groups have already been recreated on the main domain.

Since the production RDS server is a VM, I cloned it and performed all of the necessary changes and added it to the main domain so that I could test reconfiguring the RDS setup. The problem that I can't seem to get by is how to add the new server name/domain to the server pool. Under Server Manager > Remote Desktop servers > Overview I see the following message: "The following servers in this deployment are not part of the server pool: 1.old-server-name.olddomain.local The servers must be added to the server pool"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remote Desktop Connections in Server 2016 Essentials

$

I am getting ready to purchase windows server 2016 essentials for a small business. Because of our accounting system, we need to have 6 concurrent remote desktop connections to one server. We are currently running 2012r2 essential evaluation, which limits us to 2 connections. Before plunking down cash for 2016 essentials (or breaking my currently running setup to try 2016), I need to know how many remote desktop connections windows server 2016 essentials allows. Can anyone point me to documentation telling me what i need to know? Thanks in advance!

RemoteApp Default Printer Redirection Not Working in Server 2016

$

We are experiencing a RemoteApp default printer redirection issue in Windows Server 2016 that we are not seeing in Windows Server 2012R2.   We have the following simple environment:

  1.       Windows Server 2012R2 with RDS Quick Start installed.
  2.       Windows Server 2016 with RDS Quick Start installed (configured identically)
  3.       Window 10 Client with attached HP printer configured as “Default” printer.

When we launch WordPad as a RemoteApp on the client (via RDWeb) and try to print a document, we see different behaviors: 1) When launched on Server 2012R2, the client’s default printer (HP printer) is shown as the default printer (expected behavior), 2) When launched on Server 2016, the server’s default printer (XPS Document) is shown as the default printer (unexpected behavior).

We’ve verified that all of the Group policies and connection settings are correct and identical between the two servers.  However we noticed the values ofHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows:Device keys are different:  2012R shows redirection to client printer, 2016 shows server printer.

Is this a bug in Server 2016?  Anything else we should check or configure?

Thanks,

cyorlano

RDS users can do everything on the RDS Server

$

Hi There,

I have build a new server environment for a client of mine, i have build the following servers with the following roles:

DC Server (AD/DNS/DHCP/RD Licencing)
RRAS Server (Connection Broker/Gateway/RD Web Access)
RDS Server (Session Host)
SQL Server (SQL 2014)

They are all virtual machines in HV.

The problem is that the users that login on the RDS can do everything, install/remove software, start computer management, start CMD etc.

So they have admin privileges, but they are not in any admin group! also have i looked for a simple GPO that can block these admin privileges but without luck.

What can this be and how can it be fixed?

Kind Regards,

RD Gateway Not Accessible From The Internet

$

I cannot access our RDS Deployment from outside of the LAN. Deployment details as follows:

EDIT: Server 2016

Broker01/Broker02 - Configured in HA both with internal IP (10.x.x.x) - Broker01 also holds the Web Access role

RDGateway01 - Two NICS, on internal IP address (10.x.x.x) and one for DMZ (192.x.x.x)

SessionHost01/02 - Both with internal IP Address (10.x.x.x)

Everything works beautifully on the inside, I can type our URL rds.mydomain.com and there is no problems.  Issues arise when trying to access externally.

The firewall on the DMZ has been set to forward requests on port 443 to the RDSGateway01 but I keep getting "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" or something different depending on the browser. What am I missing?

Thanks

EDIT: 12-12-16

After another few days off I had the chance to look at this some more, after consulting with my networking guy (again) we found it to be an internal routing issue which was supposedly taken care of during the initial deployment. Thanks everyone for their assistance.

RDS - Black Screen after login

$

Hello,

I have researched this issue for hours now and didn't find a resolution.

So I have a physical Dell server which runs Windows Server 2012 R2. Its a single server setup which means all RDS related roles are running on one physical server. Users access published apps on that server and also establish RDP sessions from there. About every 3 weeks all users see the black screen issue when they are trying to open apps from the server and I also see the black screen after login when I directly RDP into the server.

The server is fully patched and has all the recommended hotfixes installed related to this issue. Idle active user sessions are being disconnected after 2h and disconnected sessions are being disconnected after 15min. So the max users I have on this server at a time are between 10 and 15. The server has plenty of resources CPU, Memory and disk space.

When the issue occurs even ctrl+alt+end does not even work. I will have to reboot the server via shutdown -i from another machine.

I believe the server actually still runs and all services are up because SCOM does not trigger an alert.

I am really clueless why this issue keeps coming back after running for a couple of weeks. We have several other Windows Server 2012 R2 machines and I don't see that issue on them. I have to admit they do not run RDS.

I am tempted to setup a weekly reboot of the server but honestly that would be my last gateway of resort.

Can someone please help me and give me some additional ideas what the issue could be.

Thank you
