two License Gateway Server Error Issue

$

Hi, I've found a problem about "License Gateway Server Error". If anyone have experience about this, please suggest to me. My Problem details is as follow.

In our network, I used windows server 2012 as active directory server. We have another server (Lets' say Server2)that needs to remote login. So, technician set up our AD Server as "License Gateway Server" and our users can remotely access to Server2. After three months later, our users can't access to Server2 and IT administrators can't access to AD Servers. When it's try a remote session, it show like this

"The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Server available to provide a license. Please contact to the Server Administrator."

In this situation, technician make "License Gateway Server " at Server2. Our Users can access Server2 Remotely. But for AD Server, nobody can access with remote Desktop.

So, I would like to know, " If I removed License Gateway Service on AD Server, is there any impacts to network". Or how should I do to make normal remote desktop service to my Active Directory Server. Is there any technical man, please suggest to me. Thanks you.

RDS 2012 R2 IP virtualization - IP-addresses are no longer being recycled

Hi.

We have a problem with our RDS 2012 R2 farm. We are using IP virtualization and we have recently found out that the IP addresses are no longer being recycled i.e. the first user gets IP x.x.x.1, second user gets IP x.x.x.2, first user logs out but the third user gets IP x.x.x.3 even though IP x.x.x.1 is now free. This continues until x.x.x.254 and then the server runs out of IP addresses even though there are only 1 logged on user (and no disconnects). Do you know it there is a fix for this problem?

User Profile Disks with Windows Search

We have 2 RDS Servers (2012R2) and work With User Profile Disks

We use outlook cached mode (Outlook 2013 SP1) because the link to our head office is to slow

The problem is that the outlook search isn't working properly.

Every time the users logs on, search indexes are recreated
This proces never finishes because the server is under a constant load, therefore search never works as it should.

In eventvwr, we see this error alot:

Crawl could not be completed on content source <winrt://{S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx}/>.

Context:  Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:

The parameter is incorrect.  (HRESULT : 0x80070057) (0x80070057)

Session Collection letting all users in (not only ones specified in user groups)

Hi all,

Not built an RDS farm from the ground up for a few years so a little rusty

Server 2016 Standard

RDSGW1 10.100.0.1

RDSGW2 10.100.0.2

RDSBKR1 10.100.0.3

RDSBKR2 10.100.0.4

RDSSH1 10.100.0.5

RDSSH2 10.100.0.6

Broker HA is enabled to a SQL2014 farm using BKR.contoso.com

Collections (Full Desktop) are:

SiteA (RDSSH1): UserGroup "StaffA"

SiteB (RDSSH2): UserGroup "StaffB"

DNS Records

BKR.contoso.com 10.100.0.3 & 10.1000.4

RDS.contoso.com - 10.100.0.5 & 10.100.0.6

I am led to believe that DNS round robin should be pointing to the SH servers and not the BKRs

When StaffB users connect to RDS.contoso.com they are being logged onto SRVRDS1.  How is that possible when the collection groups are set not to allow this?

If I try getting them to log onto BKR.contoso.com they log straight onto the broker servers

My understanding is that the connection should go to any one of the SH servers, then onto the brokers, then back to the correct SH server.

Thanks!!

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS Error 20499 Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server

Hello

We recently did a migration of our RDS Server to a brand new Windows 2012 R2 server.

All was working fine but we started to have this messages in the RemoteConnectionManager event log:

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager/Admin

    </EventXML>
  </UserData>
</Event>

Everytime this error message is logged the user gets disconnected from their RDS session.

So far we tried the following:

- Validate AD health (sites, subnet, replication, sysvol)

- We changed the DisableTaskOffload option as suggested in other posts

- We verified the group policy settings applied

Unfortunately we still haven't found what the root cause of this issue is.

Any suggestion of similar previous experience is welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Cristian

Switch from Citrix to RDS farm

Hi,

I've a customer which today has Citrix farm to deploy applications/desktop and Netscaler to handle VPN connections. They are really satisfied with the solution but of course this have a price.

Now I'm looking into replacing this with a RDS solution...but I cant figure it out how to do it as good as Citrix do. Regardless how I turn this they will not have a seamless solution as they have today. ....and they are only 35 users.

Does anyone have any advice to do this as good as possible?

Hi

We have two terminal servers (Windows Server 2008 R2). Every few weeks users cannot log in using their smart cards. It looks like no smart card is inserted (redirected).

There is a message in the Event Log: 7011 - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the SCPolicySvc service. Followed by similar messages about other services. Restart solves the problem. We use Gemalto .NET smart card.

Can anyone help?

Edge/Chrome browser and Remote Desktop Web Access with RemoteApp

$

I guess most of you know that if you use Microsoft Edge or Chrome to access the RD Web Access site (2012 R2) it will not automatically start the RemoteApps but the browser will download the .rdp file and the user have to start it "manually". Anyone solved the way around this or is it just the way it is because it's ActiveX based? I don't think 2016 solves this.

I know you can publish the RemoteApp shortcuts on the user's start menu via the Control Panel -> RemoteApp and Desktop Connections but this is not a solution for us since most of our users are BYOD users.

RD Licensing Server is not able to issue any license

Hi,

I have set up a RDS per device licensing server.

1. In my RD Web Access Server > Remote Desktop Services > Overview, I can see the server with the RD Licensing role installed in the deployment server.

2. In the RD Licensing Server, I launch RD Licensing Manager > Review Configuration > I can see two green ticks "This license server is a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group in Active Directory Domain Services.." and "This license server is registered as a service connection point SCP) in Active Directory Domain Services.

3) In the session host server, I launch RD Licensing Diagnoser and I an see my RD Licensing Server and no errors. "RD Licensing Diagnoser did not identify any problems to report."

It seems that my RD License Server is setup probably but when I log in using a HP Thin Client, I do not see any license being issued. I tried again on another device (a Windows Notebook) with another username and again I can log in but the number of license issued is still zero.

I check the event logs (administrative events) of the RD Web Access Server, RD License Server and Session Host Server but I do not see any errors or warning.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Powershell to find user who owns hard disk

Hi,

Deleting a userprofile in a RDS environment which has a broker and a filecluster with UPD is quite cumbersome so I would like to automate the process.

The function:

1.queries the number of the disk attached to a user on RDS: you can see on the vhdx (in security) who is the owner, but howto via powerhsell?
2.query on which server the user is logged on and LOG HIM OFF
3.ONLY WHEN USER IS LOGGED OF, deatach the disk (number)  from server (the id)
4.deletes the vhd (via sid of user.vhdx) on filecluster

I can do steps 2 tot 4 in Powershell but how to find the number of attached disk to the user on the broker and/or server?

Please advise.

Specify a Program to Start Automatically When a User Logs On Does Not Work in 2016 Server

By default, Remote Desktop Services sessions provide access to the full Windows desktop, unless a program has been specified to start when the user logs on to the remote session. If an initial starting program has been specified, it will be the only program that the user can use in the Remote Desktop Services session. The Start menu and the Windows Desktop are not displayed when the user logs on to the remote session, and when the user exits the program the session is automatically logged off. This feature does not work 2016 server it ignores whatever we specify and always starts a Desktop Session. We are running a work group so group policy is not an option as a workaround. In the 2012 server, 2008 Server it works. Kindly please advise how to get this basic feature to run in Server 2016.

Connecting to RDS gateway with Palo Alto FW

Hello,

So, I have a company that hosts a quickbooks program for us. They recently dumped Citrix (which I dont agree with, but oh well) and are using an RDS Gateway.  I can connect to the gateway , but I cannot make an RDP connection to the internal PC behind the gateway.  If I pull my PC or another PC outside my firewall and onto a basic cable modem setup, I can connect fine to both.  I am going crazy looking through Palo Alto logs because I am sure it is blocking or decrpyting something.  But, this is apparently not the case.  Anyone else have a similar situation , i.e. Palo ALto Firewalls ?

Thanks,

How to migrate cals when no internet or network connectivity

$

Hi,

I would like to migrate 40 Cals( per user) from a server to another server. Both are running Windows 2008 R2

Right now ,  Source and target servers are on different networks. Target server has no internet connection

I'am facing two difficulties  :

I don't retrieve the mail with our agreement license number. It was during the automating cal process I tried 2 days ago.

I think this method cannot work anymore because the target server is on a different network now.

SO how can I migrate Cals from server to another one if the target server has no internet access and cannot talk with the source server ?
