Printer Deployment Best Practice

Hi Everybody,

I have a WS2012R2 Print Server installed and we use RDS 2012 R2. I couldn't find any document from microsoft how I should deploy the printers. Do you guys have any recommendation for me?

I can think of two ways which make sense:

1. Deploy the Printers via GPO to the Clients. And then redirect them via the RDP Session to the Server. (Using EasyPrint)

2. Deploy the Printer via GPO directly to the RDS.

Do you have any expierence?

What are the Pro and Cons of the different scenarios?

Kind Regards

Sebastian

Would anyone be willing to please provide references about how to properly configure certificates for a Win2k12 R2 RDS farm??

Our *.domain.org UCC certificate is coming up for renewal and I'd like to do the gateway and server certificates etc. etc. properly this time so people don't get the certificate mismatch messages.

Thank you, Tom

Greetings everyone.

We are using an application with RemoteApp on a Server 2016 Essencial.

When a remoteapp windows (Acomba software) is in full screen mode, if we minimized it, when we will maximuxe it back he will got freeze.

I can click on the top bar for resize windows and it's immediatly unfreeze it and resize it.

I also got outlook 2013 in remoteapp but this one did't enconter the issue.

I tryed to disable Use advanced RemoteFX graphics for RemoteApp but no success, problem still(or maybe I did it wrong. I tryed registry and computer configuration)

Maybe a workarround will be to block fullscreen for remoteapp and put a size just a little smaller then full screen...

I also seen that some menu will work even when freezed but I will need to click under the menu button of the program for make it appear.

Thank you all for any help you could provide me.

Random users gets stucks on RDS (TS) login

Hello,

I have Windows Server 2016 which is dedicated to Terminal Services. Every day +20 users logs in to it remotely and does all kind of work remotely. Only fixes I found in the internet for the problem I'm going to describeare for the Server 2008/2012.

Recently, on rare occasions, from time to time, one random user on the Windows Server 2016 cannot login. His login gets stuck in infinite log in screen loop. Now, as I said before, it happens very rarely – I'd say once or twice in a week on +20 daily logging in and working users on the server. It wouldn't be the problem if I could fix this problem but the only real FIX I found out is server restart/reboot/reset (I'll fill you on more details as you read further in). To escalate the problem further this is production environment server – I cannot restart server as I please (also it annoys users a lot, I must call each user individually and inform them about server reboot – not an easy task for me because I also have the tight schedule). Biggest problem is that this issue can occur let's say at the start of the work day (what happened today) for one user so I cannot wait till the working hours ends – I must "organize" the server reboot (call every user and inform them about it).

This problem starts innocently: user gets stuck in infinite Login screen. User calls to IT help desk that he/she cannot login. IT staff opens Task Manager in the server. Here the things start to get interesting: problematic user login name in "Users" tab of the Task Manager is not visible. Instead Blank user (no username – just blank space) with 4 processes are seen. If I see that user (BLANK) I know that I have problem without fix (unless you count server reboot). Now if I try smart approach I can try to force disconnect/logoff stuck user, so he can try to re-login and/or force quit stuck processes (user can try to login to the server freshly because he has no processes running on the server).

However, if I disconnect blank user through the console (I can try to "Sign Off" user from the Task Manager – does not work) he can never login back to the terminal server – user reconnects and sees error "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy" after acknowledgment of the error users gets disconnected and if he reconnects he sees same error. IF I kill all processes of that session in the server (with the help of tasklist, taskkill /PID XXX /t /f) and the user reconnects to the server he gets the message “Please Wait for The User Profile Service”. This message never disappears – tried to wait 30 minutes. In this state user session cannot be logged off – if we try to open Task Manager “Users” tab we will see BLANK user session (I guess you already can see LOOP pattern in this).

What else? Server resources is not the problem, no updates were installed or pending to install (server needed to be rebooted).

Any suggestions will be appreciated. However I'll cannot apply them very often/fast (unless its related to the currently running server configuration) because the Issue appears once a week at max.

RDS HA Database Migration (databasefilepath set wrong)

$

Hi Everyone,

We need to migrate the RDS Broker HA database from an old SQL server to a new one.  The physical path location will also change.

old server SQL01 (V:\ has the database.mdf)

new server SQL02 (E:\ has the database.mdf)

I've looked at the Microsoft powershell notes, but some of the switches fail to work.  Clientaccessname and databasefilepath

ipmo remotedesktop

get-rdconnectionbrokerhighavailability

set-rddatabaseconnectionstring -connectionbroker "brokerserver.domain.com" -databaseconnectionstring "DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=newsqlserver;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;DATABASE=DB" -databasefilepath "E:\DB.mdf.mdf" -clientaccessname "brokerha.domain.com"

I have moved the database to the new server, ran the PS command without those two switches and rebooted all brokers.  The old database has been taken offline.  Logins are working fine, and running get-rdconnectionbrokerhighavailability shows the new SQL server.

The only thing which annoys me is the databasefilepath is still set to the old location.  How do I update it?

Recreating Gen2 Virtual Desktop Pool

Hello

I am running a Server 2016 based RDS deployment. I have created a virtual desktop collection with Gen2 VM as the master image.

The collection will deploy initially with no issues at all and work as it is expected to do.

However, when I attempt to recreate all desktops due to updates etc, the job will fail with the following error reported in Server Manager:

Failed: Task: Calling into Hyper-V: failed. Result of task [0x80004005]

Looking in the event logs on the CB I am able to find this message under Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker/Admin:

VM host [host.name] failed to execute VM Provisioning operation [Task: Calling into Hyper-V: ] for virtual machine [Gen-0] in pool [Gen_2_Test], Error: [Unspecified error ]

If I look in the VMMS event log on the actual Hyper-V host itself I can find this message:

The description for Event ID 4120 from source Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
Gen-0
ꐿ˜
崜݋翶
%%2147942402
0x80070002
The locale specific resource for the desired message is not present

However, the machine is still there and booted? However it will stop the rest of the recreations so a collection with more than one vm will not finish.

Any pointers would be really appreciated I've Googled everything, tried with/without checkpoints, with/without the machines started at the time of recreation, with/without secure boot and nothing works. All that works, is regeneration with a Gen1 VM

Please help :)

Steve

Central Licensing Server

Hello,

We have 2 existing RDS deployments. Our networking team has requested a 3rd RDS server to share networking tools (NetTools). Is is possible to configure a central licensing server so that if a user accessed the NetTools RDS server that the RDS CAL would be taken from the CALs assigned to NetTools?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks.

RDS 2012 R2: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the (name-of-service) service

$

Hi guys,

On a random base (daily, weekly) we're experiencing major log-in problems on our Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services farm. The VM's are hosted on Hyper-V 2008 hosts and we're not using Citrix techniques etc.

Users are reporting that they cannot log-in, the log-in sessions hangs with a blank screen when loading their user profile (e.g. Please Wait For The User Profile Service).

In the System event log of the server on which the user is logging on the following errors are shown:

Source:        Service Control Manager
Date:          23-12-2014 7:28:01
Event ID:      7011
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Description:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after 30 (or sometimes 60) seconds, the same error only another service (in random order):

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after exactly 30 seconds, the same error only another service:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UxmSms service.

etcetera, with the following errors:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Netman service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AudioEndPointBuilder service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WPDBusEnum service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.

The Portable Device Enumerator Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the TrkWks service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

These errors are logged continuously.

An administrator cannot solve this since he isn't able to login in as well (console or remotely), only a hard reset of the VM is possible to use the affected server again.

I took different steps to solve this problem without any success, like:

- Installing the latest Windows updates
- Removed unnecessary printer drivers, print monitors and print processors (no local printers/drivers are installed, only Remote Desktop Easy Printer driver is used)
- Searched different forum posts, but found only hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 R2.

Can someone please help me with this annoying problem?

Many thanks!!

EDIT:
Of course is increasing the time-out not really an option here... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13765.event-id-7011-service-timeout.aspx

RDP mouse focus

$

Hello we are using a RDP server 2012 R2. all updates have been applied.

When user are running any program, and within the program there is a drop down menu, the mouse focus is on that drop down, and the mouse wheel will change the value (as it should ) however, this behavior does not happen when users use the same program locally.  This is causing issues as a user may not realize that they need to refocus the mouse, they touch the wheel, and all of a sudden they have changed values they should not have.

Does any one have any idea if this is some sort of setting on the server ? this happens in all cases of the run RDP session, windows 7,10 etc.

we just had another issue with a system running windows 10 version 1803, however we have fixed that issue, this one is right across the board.

thanks in advance

Black Screen on all new Connections, SessionHost has to be rebooted

$

hi,

we're suffering from session hosts that produce black screen errors in a RDS 2016 farm.

already connected users can mostly work, all new connections end up with a black screen.

to resolve the error the server has to be restarted.

i can say that

- upon checking the registry for this SID i end up at "ProfileNotifyHandler Class app id {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4adc-AA9D-2FE65525666E} inprocserver32, C:\Windows\System32\gameux.dll".

- starting explorer.exe per taskmgr does not open an actual explorer window although the process appears in taskmgr

- tskmgr, eventvwr, cmd can be started without problems

- affected users appear as active in RDS management

- no third party security software is installed

- farm is fully patched

- HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileGUID and ProfileList are ok (no old or .bak entries)

looking forward on how to resolve this without  rebooting the server or a permanent fix

thank you

best regards

Hi,

our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

Thanks.

What user permissions are needed to create RAP and CAP policies Remote Desktop Gateway

$

I have created a script to use for adding RAP and CAP policies when we add a new client.  I would like for my Tech Support team to be able to do this however they do not seem to have the proper permissions on the Remote Desktop Gateway servers to do so.  I only want to grant the minimal permission required to accomplish the task.  I have not been able to find anything on the internet that indicates what user permission level is needed and I would prefer not to give my Techs local admin rights on my gateway servers.

Hopefully someone has already figured out what level of user permissions are required and can pass that information along.

Thanks

Roy
