Save website passwords not working properly with credential manager in windows 2012r2 RDS

Hello,

I can not beleive that we are the only one with this problem. I started a question about this issue a long time ago. (see https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/03d614d5-5fb8-44ed-a2f7-3e439a62d265/web-passwords-not-saved-in-credential-manager?forum=winserverTS)

For now we had a workarround by using google chrome but because they will end the java and silverlight plugins we need to go back to Internet Explorer.

The problem:

When using Roaming Profiles in an RDS environment the Profiles are deleted at logoff (policy setting). The credential manager saves encrypted files in the directory "%USERPROFILE%\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Vault . So when the profile is deleted at logoff the vault directory is lost and so are all the saved website passwords. So when we login to another server no saved website passwords are there.

So now we are testing with Universal Profile Disks. With UPD the localappdata folder is retained when logging into another server. BUT the credential manager is still not working properly.

When you save the passwords on server1 the passwords are saved in encrypted files in the users vault directory . When you login to server2 the files are still there but credential manager will not read them UNTIL you restart the credential manager service on that server.  When restarting the service then Credential manager will read the vault directory and show the saved passwords.

I think the solution is that when a user logs on to a server then credential manager will need to read the password files in the vault directory. But that is not the case.

I hope that someone can help because this is crazy. I also contacted MS support but had no luck finding a engineer that understands the problem.

2 separate certificates on Public and private IP addresses.

Hello,

we have servers with private and public IPs at the same time(using 1 NIC).

I am able to connect to it using hostnames: host123.companydaomin.com or host123.windowsdomain.local

for the second option we have applied the certificate host123.windowsdomain.local but we still need to have the ability to use another certificate which will cover name  host123.companydaomin.com.

Is it possible to do it in windows 2012 r2?

One certificate can be mapped using steps from this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3042780/remote-desktop-listener-certificate-configurations-in-windows-server-2

but I need 2.

Hello.

I want to prevent using metro style notification on windows server 2016 with Remote desktop session host service.

For example if we start cmd and write : msg * "test" we will see

but after Remote desktop session host service installation complete  it will be look like

My question... How can i disable using metro style notification in RDS?
Replacing msg.exe files doesn't help.
Maybe some registry change or wmi solutions?

Thanks.

Limit windows server 2016 RDP sessions to one

Hi,

By default the number of available RDP sessions is 2, but I'd like to limit the number of RDP sessions of a windows server 2016 to only one (even if the user is an administrator). ¿Is that possible?

P.S. My server has no RDS role active.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

How does the RD protocol work? Would a RDS session background image add to the amount of network traffic compared to a solid color background?

Thanks

Software installation in RD Session Host Farm

Hi guys,

I consider to create a RD Session host farm. Can anyone explain how software installation works if I add several Session Hosts to a collection? Is it necessary to install an application on each server of the collection manually or is there a simpler way to install an application on all hosts at the same time?

Some of our applications are required only by one RDS user or we own only a license for one installation. Is there a way that some users are connected to a specific RD Session host if they login (for example to the one with an installed graphic application)?

Patrick

How to list running applications on a Windows 2012 R2 RDS farm

Hi,

This seems like a basic need and yet i haven't found a way to do this yet...

Is there a way to see who is running which app(s) within a Windows 2012 R2 RDS farm ?!? (GUI or Powershell)

I know that you can see the list of current connections in the "Remote Desktop Services" section of "Server Manager" on the broker, but you can't see which apps are currently executed by these users... You have to "shadow" the session to see which app is running.

I find it weird that an information like that is not easily available !

Thanks for your help !

Remote Descktop Self Sighned Cert - how do I stop the system from generating it on reboots?

I'm trying to get rid of the "Self Signed" Remote Desktop Certificate.

We're utsing centrally issued SSL Certs that have been imported into the Computer > Certificates > Personal > Certificates folder as well as the REmote Desktop > Certificates folder.

The issue is every time I reboot the server the Self Signed Cert returns and it's getting pinged on a security scan.  While I've set the properties to not be used for any purpose, I would really like to get rid to the thing.

How do I go about stopping the server from re-issuing the Self Signed Cert on each reboot?

Thanks in advance!

RDS Server Stop Error (BlueScreen)

I have a 2012 R2 RDS server crashing every week or so for no apparent reason.  I have run a BlueScreenView analysis and that lead me to this hotfix, which matches all the aspects of the crashing perfectly:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3127673/stop-error-0x000000c2-or-0x0000003b-when-you-re-running-remote-desktop-services-in-windows-server-2012-r2

However, when attempting to install this hotfix, I get the error "This update is not compatible with your system."  There is no indication that this hotfix has been included in a subsequent cumulative update, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

One server in Connection Broker Collection is not getting users logged into it

I have a collection of 6 Session Host servers. All of the servers except one are allowing users to log in. I can see in server manager that I have 61 connections total, but none of them to this one specific server. I have confirmed that "Allow New Connections" is set to true. I'm not sure where else to look to find out why users are not being redirected to this one server.

I have setup Windows server 2016 with RDS and the new httml5 webclient. Everything works great except when the ssl updates
the client can login but when they try to run app they get a SSl thumbprint error. Clearing the browser cache on the client fixes it.
I am updating the Web SSL and the RDS webaccess, gateway, broker session host and running Import-RDWebClientBrokerCert
any ideas, anyone else having this

NLB as Alternative to RD Connection Broker?

We have thin clients that do not support the connection broker method of load balancing (They create a direct connection to the session host, do not listen to the redirect request and require interactive login).  I was wondering if NLB or some other method I am not aware of could be used as an alternative ... I am aware of DNS round-robin, but it is not ideal for our situation.

RD session connections windows server 2016 - two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted

we have RDS installed in Windows 2016 standard edition and use session-base desktop deployment.

It was working fine for about one year. About two weeks ago, we started to have the following issue:

This computer can't connect to the remote computer.
The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support.

When this issue happens, we find some users are disconnected in the RDS-Collections-QuickSessionCollection. But we cannot log/sign off those users, they are always showing there.

BTW, we can sign of those users in the Task Manager-Users.

We can solve this issue by restarting the server. How to fix it without restarting the server?

Thanks!

How to launch a RDP file in Remote Application Mode through command line?

Hello, guys!  I created a RDP file to seamlessly access to a Remote Application.  The RDP file is working well.  But every time I try to launch it though command line, mstsc.exe throws an "Invalid connection file" message.  I've been trying to debug the file in notepad and it seems that the problem is with the "remoteapplicationmode:i:1" line.  Is there any way to launch a RDP file in Remote Application Mode through command line?  Thanks!

Black screen after login | RDP in Windows Server 2012R2

I'm facing the black screen issues after login in a Windows server 2012 R2 through RDP. As referred from MS blog (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/31b681c5-3658-45a5-8158-a0a0f967c4a2/rdp-screen-goes-black-after-successful-remote-login?forum=winserverTS) I have tried to start task manager with alt+ctrl+del keys, but only two options (Lock and Sign out) are available. I can login the system locally. In task manager only 3 processes are running of the RDP user. My observation are there in the attached screen-shots. I have installed the new patches KB4021558, 4022717 and 4022726. Then I have rebooted the server. Since that reboot, issue started. Then I have uninstalled the patches, but unfortunately issue still persists on server.

Hi!

I need to migrate a Windows Server 2008 RDS environment to 2016. The current situation is that i have;

- 20x RDS Session Hosts (2008)
- 1x RDS Session Broker (2008)

What i want to know is, can i deploy the new Windows 2016 Session Hosts behind the same 2008 connection broker? Or do i need to upgrade this connection broker to Server 2012 first?

User Profile Disks with Windows Search

We have 2 RDS Servers (2012R2) and work With User Profile Disks

We use outlook cached mode (Outlook 2013 SP1) because the link to our head office is to slow

The problem is that the outlook search isn't working properly.

Every time the users logs on, search indexes are recreated
This proces never finishes because the server is under a constant load, therefore search never works as it should.

In eventvwr, we see this error alot:

Crawl could not be completed on content source <winrt://{S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx}/>.

Context:  Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:

The parameter is incorrect.  (HRESULT : 0x80070057) (0x80070057)
