Remote desktop services

dear sir / madam,

currently I'm deploying the application utilizing thin manager. The application is utilizing the RDS (Remote Dekstop service). I have primary and backup/additional domain control. Step 1 is to configure RDS and this step requires the Primary Domain control running.

The RDS works properly if the Primary Domain Control (PDC) is running, but if the PDC problem/not connected then the RDS is not connected (additional domain control is running).

Is the RDS is only connect to PDC ? How can i configure the RDS which connecting to PDC and additional Domain control..so when ever the PDC is down, the RDC still connect to additional domain control

please advise

Thank You

Remote desktop printing not working from windows 10 to window 7 pc

I am using remote desktop to remote from a Windows 10 client to a window 7 machine and printer re-direction is not working.  I have enabled this in the remote desktop connection setting but the printer does not get mapped.  I have ensured they are using the same driver.  There are no ports re-directed on the windows 7 machine (so no TS01 ports).  Any idea's?

Thanks

Remote desktop disconnections

Hi,

We deployed a virtual hybrid RDS architecture as follow:

- 2 Domain Controllers on 2016 (Licence server)

- 1 Broker on 2016 (no gateway)

- 3 Application server used as remote app on 2012R2

- A cluster of 2 TSE servers (RDSH) on 2012 R2

It works almost well i just got a little problem, sometimes when we try to connect on remote app ou directly via RDP we got a connection error, like when the server is offline, but when i ping ther server during the blocage i don't lose any packet.

When we try a second time it works as usual.

I tried to troubleshoot it myself, found some event (227) on the broker and the RDSH (110/226) found nothing that can resolve that on google, or maybe i'm just not looking to the right spot.

Could you me find out what's the matter ?

RDS 2016 - HTML5 Client certificate error

Hi,

Ive recently deployed the HTML5 Web Client, at an existing RDS 2016 setup, using this guide:

https://custominterfacesolutions.com/html5-web-client-microsoft-remote-desktop-services-2016-steps-install-rd-web-client/

The setup contains 1 x RDWeb server, 2 x RDGW and 2 x Connection brokers.

A single public trusted wildcard certificate is used, for the entire RDS setup, containing the domain name, that the servers is belonging to.

Im able to login to the Web Client, and see all the published applications, that is available.

But when trying to connect, i then get an certificate error, containing the name of the Remote Desktop Session host...

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Ive managed to find the certificate at the Session Host, containing the same thumbprint as the one on the picture.

Added the certificate to the trusted root cert auth, across all the frontend RDS servers (Web,GW,CB) - but that didnt help.

What seems to be the problem, since i cant find any solution to this error?

Add License Server to RDS Deployment

And another issue:

I am unable to add my RDS 2012R2 license server to my existing RDS deployment.

I added the server to Server Manager and this works fine. Adding the License Server via the UI also works and completes successfully, or so it seems.

Get-RDServer does not show the License Server.
Server Manager RDS tab does not show the License Server to be configured at all.
However, trying to edit the RDS Deployment properties the License Server is available.

I also tried to add a different server with the RDS Licensing feature installed via PowerShell first and that fails without any error message.

This all does not make ANY sense.

On the License Server itself I checked the RDS License Server Manager and the License Server is currently not activated (these are all test deployments!), the server is not online and can't access Microsoft's activation site.

RDP license wont transfer

Two Questions:

1: If I have an RDP license on an old server, and I want to transfer it to a new one, do I have to log into that old server to remove it and migrate it over? Or is it possible to just activate the license on the new server without disconnecting it?

2: An error message comes up when logging into the remote desktop "No Remote Desktop license server is available. Remote desktop services will stop working in xx days if this computer does not contact at least a valid windows server 2016 license server." Is this coming up because I just tried to activate the license without disconnecting it from the old server?

Thank you.

Restrict one session per user for collection

Hello,

I have 2 RDS Hosts behind an RD Gateway, RD Broker.

Is there a way to restrict each user to only one session in a Collection ?

I am using User Profile Disk (UPD) on a file share.

I can restrict one user session on each host, but since I have 2 hosts, the user can log on to the second host if there is already an active session in the first host. The second session ends up with a temporary profile when the user logs on because the UPD is already in use for the first host.

How do I configure it such that a user can only have one session when launching any RemoteApp from the web browser ?

Thank you for any help.

Re-establish RDS Services - Only allowing two connections

Hello,

I have a server that went offline (computer was disabled on the domain). I enabled it and it's active on the domain now. This server has RDS installed. It's suppose to allow up to 10 concurrent connections but it somehow went back to the standard two concurrent connections. From my understanding this server is suppose to pull it's licenses from another server we'll call server2.

I was wondering how I could re-establish this connection back to server2 to pull the licenses it needs?

win2016 remote desktop services manager TSADMIN.msc

Rename Collection Alias

Hello Folks,

I'm on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and I have a RDP Session Collection.  I've renamed the collection from "QuickSessionCollection" to something else, yet the alias is still "QuickSessionCollection" when I run Get-RDSessionCollection

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Is there a way for me to rename the CollectionAlias property?  I've looked at Set-RDSessionCollectionConfigurationbut I don't see anything concerning the alias.

If this isn't possible, is there a way to import/export SessionCollection apps?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

RDS Print Redirection Does Not Work After Reconnecting to RDS)

Hi,

AWS Windows Server 2016 Datacenter, a production Server for my client is impaired. The client has computers and printers at their office location, users RDS into AWS Cloud Server and print using RDS print redirection.

Since a few days ago the RDS print redirection stopped working reliably. No error message after hitting "Print a Test page", the print job shows up in the queue and disappears after a couple of seconds.

Print redirection often works and some other times doesn't work for everyone in that location. The only time I know for a fact it works is after rebooting the server. It takes either one or few times of disconnect/reconnect from RDS that the RDS print redirection stops working.

I did everything I can on a local machine and network. They all work fine 100% of the time. I restarted Win Server 2016 Spooler and it still doesn't work. One other condition the RDS printing worked is when I reinstalled the printer driver on local machine newly but it stops working after one or few RDS disconnects and reconnects.

It is so frustrating, I bought a brand new hp laserjet pro-MFP m447fdw printer it didn't help. I bought a new Cisco SMB router, it didn't help. Apparently, it only has something to do with Windows Server 2016.

Unable to access RDWeb URL

Hello Experts,

I've configured a new RDS environment with all roles (Connection broker, RDSH, RDWeb) installed on a standalone 2016 server.

RemoteAPP after windows 10 update 1803 are slow and right mouse button is not responding (it reacts only sometimes)

Hi,

our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

Thanks.

Black Screen on User Login Windows Server 2016 Terminal Server

I have randomly only Black Screen, when a User logs on to a Windows 2016 Terminal Server. Sometimes, I am able to log off the User, but sometimes not even this is working and I have to reboot the Server - in this case the server crashes on Reboot after a longer time out in the shutdown progress.

The Server ist fully patched trough Windows Update. I tried already lot of suggestions that I have found in forums on the internet - nothing helped. As lots of other Admins are facing a similar problem with in different configuration, I think this should be addressed by Microsoft - or does anyone have an idea on how to solve it?

- The Terminal Server is running on a Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 in my case - but I have seen other Admin having the same problem on hardware install as well
- Antivirus is Symantec Enterprise, but I have other Admins seen having same problem with other Antivirus
- Firefox is installed on my Terminal Server
- Only two Users are working on this Terminal Server
- The problem seems to occur at least one time a week - but I also have made 50 logins and logouts in a row with the user and it did not happen one time
- All Users (in my case both Users) can be affected by the problem
- Ctrl+Alt+End does not work (so the User could logoff himself or start Task Manager

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDP Blue Screen No Desktop

But my question is, can anybody explain me reason behind the issue??

RemoteFX on Hyper-V Console but not through RDP

Hi,

have a hard time right now. My setup is a Windows Server 2016 on a HP DL380p Gen8 Server with a Nvidia Quadro K4000 GPU. My goal was to create a VDI with user based Windows 10 Enterprise desktops my users can connect to with RemoteFX enabled.

Unfortunately I cant get it to work. As soon as I enable the RemoteFX GPU within the Hyper-V settings of any of the VM's I cant connect via RDP from another Windows 10 with MSTSC anymore.

- I get the user/password promt and enter both. (I now the authentication works because if I enter wrong credentials I get an password error)

- I see the "Remote Connection is being secured..." message and a second later the error message: "Your Remote Session has ended, possibly for one of these reasons:. The Administrator ended, the session Network Error...

BUT:

If I RDP into the Hyper-V Server (RDVSH) and open the Hyper-V Manager I can click on the same machines console and login - with RemoteFX enabled (as I can see within device manager "Microsoft RemoteFX Graphics Adapter WDDM...")

If I remove the GPU using Hyper-V Manager I can connect from the Windows 10 client with MSTSC to my VM Windows 10 just fine.

Other things I checked:

- Using Windows Server 2019 (same effect)

- clean non-domain windows 10 machine (same effect)

- MSTSC with the 10 MBit LAN option and not automatic detection (same effect)

Remote audio redirection missing important option

Hello there.

Setup: Windows Server 2019 as host. Multiple Hyper-V guests as clients (windows 8.1)

Connection is done via VMConnect.exe (RDP). Enhanced sessions are enabled on host and clients and all options to redirect audio can be seen and selected.

However one option for a particular scenario is missing. It has been asked on superuser already and can be found by googling "USB microphone on remote desktop doesn't appear/record" (I cannot post links with this account).

The missing scenario is as follows: There are local sound input devices on the installed on the remote clients, like Splitcams microphone or Audio Cable. And they are only visible and usable when selecting "Play audio on remote computer" for the RDP session.

However then the remote clients audio will not playback on the host.

With selection "Play audio on local computer" then there is audio playback on the local computer but the remote input devices are no longer installed.

So what is missing is a way to keep the remote input devices available in the guest but redirect the remote audio playback to the loacal computer. This could be either achieved by installing the audio endpoint for local redirection into a session where "Play audio on remote computer" has been selected.

Or this could be achieved by keeping the remote input devices instead of removing them when "Play audio on local computer" has been selected.

Any workaround or hack to make this work is appreciated.

Remote Desktop to Windows Server 2019 - Frequently mouse and keyboard not responding

Hi,

I'm running +10 Windows Server 2019 machine as virtual machines in Hyper-V.

I'm facing the issue that when logged on with RDC to these servers, that my keyboard and mouse frequently stop working on the remote machine, on the local machine all works normal.

Sometimes this is every couple minutes, sometimes it take 30-60 minutes.

Best solution so far is close the RDC connection and re-open the remote desktop. However sometimes the input is responding again after a minute or a couple of minutes.

I've tested with the task manager open on CPU screen, when the mouse/keyboard isn't responding, you can see that the task manager refresh the CPU screen as normal.

This is happening when logged on as administrator, and ALSO as client in my RDS Host.

Server: Windows Server 2019 Standard 1809, 8GB RAM, 4x CPU
Client: Windows 10 Pro 1903, RDC 15-Bit Color

I believe this is a bug in Windows, as i can't reproduce this behaviour when logged in from a Windows 7 client machine.

Do other users see similar situations?

Has someone found a solution for this?

Multiple Gateway servers - or how to migrate smoothly to Azure App Proxy

Hi everyone,

we are currently having a RDS 2012 R2 deployment and want to switch to Azure App Proxy.

My idea was to deploy a second rdweb/gateway server and configure it with my poc group and then my pilot users.

I do not want to build a new RDS deployment from scratch to test if all my settings work.

Is this even possible? I only find HA configurations (which i do not want because it is a different config for each gateway server) or "It should work" posts.

Or is there an even better preferred way to migrate to Azure App Proxy with RDS?
