Will ths work for me?

I currently have a desktop put aside for people to log in to from home via VPN then RD.  W10 Pro is on the machine they RD into.  Using 2016 Server for AD only at this time.  Obviously limitations are concurrent sessions.  I want to know if I purchase a bunch of RD services CALS and setup RDS on a 2019 Server machine, what else do I need for it to work with 10 concurrent users?  Do I still use the W10 machine I have been using or does the RD session or "VM" get installed on the RDS Server?  What will be the session host computer?  The 2019 Server?  I was under the assumption that if I have a 2019 RD server, I can create a W10 Pro install in RDS and the users can remote into that via RD thru their machines from home.  I an new to RDS as you can tell.  All the docs online are gibberish to me

Reinstall RDS Brocker after uninstall - W2012R2

Good morning all,

After worrying connections to my RDS server and the remote app, I uninstalled the RDS connection brocker as an advisor in an article that said it was not necessary when all the roles are on the same server in 2012 R2.

The problem is that now I have no access to the remote app and collections.

How to reinstall the role brocker cleanly without this impact the users connect to the RDS.

All RDS roles are installed on the same RDS W2012R2 server.

Access to published app only

Hi,

We have a Windows Server 2016 RDS environment. On the session hosts we have installed an application that is used also by external customers. They logon to the webaccess site on the remote gateway server. At the moment they logon to the server collection and then start the specific application.

Actually we don't want the customers to login to the server. We only want them to be able to use the application. So I published the application as a remote app. That works fine, but they need permissions to the server collection in order to start the published app. So the icon for the server collection will be displayed on the webaccess page and they will be able to use it to logon to the servers.

Is there a way to prevent that ? So that the published application is the only thing available via webaccess? I know I can download the shortcut for the published app and distribute that to the customers, however they are unable to use it because we have secure envoy in place.

RemoteApp not visible when launched

Hope someone can help. We are running RDS 2016 and have 1 app that when launched, it does not display the app (You can see it connected in the task bar, but when clicking on the icon, you cannot see anything. In order for the app to display, I have to shadow the user and reduce the size of the screen and then it will show. Obviously this is not an option as we cannot do this each time the app is used. Does anyone know how I can re-size the app window so that it displays the same size each time it's opened? <style></style>

DFS and Excel issue: file already in use

Hello, my first post here. I hope you'll help me with this annoying and blocking issue.

My client has this infrastructure: 2x 2012R2 HyperV with a bunch of VM servers on them. Two of them were DFS 2008 R2 servers with replication on. They typically use 2 terminal RDP servers in their daily use. Their user profile folders are stored in the DFS namespace, therefore replicated.

Now, they had some bad problems in the permissions due to inadequate ACL policies. I updated the DFS data disks (had to convert them to vhdx) and basically revolutioning acls of the shares, filtering access to the proper departments.

I had to upgrade the 2008 to 2012R2 DFS servers.

This is the scenario. From the moment i introduced the first 2012 server in DFS, end users began at random to suffer a strange problem working with Excel: some files are "Already opened. Wait and retry" (Sorry if the message in english isn't exaclty as i wrote, the client doesn't use english as system language)

In Open Files under Shares Management Tool, noone except the user have this file opened.

I checked ACL and they are fine.

I tried to convert the file to .xlsx (it was an old .xls) with no success.

The files have the same problem in the terminal servers but also in some spare local sessions on PCs, not only in RDP sessions.

I sincerely have no idea what to do. I tried searching but found nothing.

RDS 2012 R2: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the (name-of-service) service

Hi guys,

On a random base (daily, weekly) we're experiencing major log-in problems on our Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services farm. The VM's are hosted on Hyper-V 2008 hosts and we're not using Citrix techniques etc.

Users are reporting that they cannot log-in, the log-in sessions hangs with a blank screen when loading their user profile (e.g. Please Wait For The User Profile Service).

In the System event log of the server on which the user is logging on the following errors are shown:

Source:        Service Control Manager
Date:          23-12-2014 7:28:01
Event ID:      7011
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Description:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after 30 (or sometimes 60) seconds, the same error only another service (in random order):

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after exactly 30 seconds, the same error only another service:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UxmSms service.

etcetera, with the following errors:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Netman service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AudioEndPointBuilder service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WPDBusEnum service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.

The Portable Device Enumerator Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the TrkWks service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

These errors are logged continuously.

An administrator cannot solve this since he isn't able to login in as well (console or remotely), only a hard reset of the VM is possible to use the affected server again.

I took different steps to solve this problem without any success, like:

- Installing the latest Windows updates
- Removed unnecessary printer drivers, print monitors and print processors (no local printers/drivers are installed, only Remote Desktop Easy Printer driver is used)
- Searched different forum posts, but found only hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 R2.

Can someone please help me with this annoying problem?

Many thanks!!

EDIT:
Of course is increasing the time-out not really an option here... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13765.event-id-7011-service-timeout.aspx

Application crashes within 2016 RDS Server

I'm running TenMast, a public housing management tool, on 2 remote desktop servers.  The total number of users accessing each server is under 50.  MRI owns the software.  We've been having issues with the application crashing within the remote desktop servers.  The app will not crash when running the application directly on the TenMast server and from a client PC.  The application requires a mapped "T" drive.  I've been in contact with the manufacture and they haven't been able to troubleshoot the issue.  Is there anyone that has experience this issue?  Let me know then.  Thanks.

Windows 8.1 and RDS 2019 not working

Hi,

I have an RDS environment, gateway, broker and session host. all on Windows 2019.

I can connect fine from a Windows 10 machine, however windows 8.1 just doesnt work, it authenticates with the RemoteApp web front end, but just doesnt make a successfull connection when launching the app. I see no errors, just tells me the server is unavailable. Is there an easy fix that I am missing? All servers and clients are fully up to date as they are all in Azure and have full internet access.

Thanks

Windows 10 remote session, apps pause when remote desktop disconnected

$

Hello,

Over the past couple of months, we have found a Windows 10 machine we have that runs applications 24/7, has an issue whereby the apps seem to go into a "Paused" state when we disconnect our remote desktop connection.

I am sure this is likely to be Windows update related, but we cannot be 100% sure on what date the issue started, so are unable to determine the suspect update.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues after installing updates, who could point me in the right direction?

Thanks

James

RDS 2016 Remote Desktop Services is currently busy

I am running a Server 2016 with RDS and it's mainly used for remote apps. Our users are getting the "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because RDS is currently busy" and looking at the task manager, there appears to be a stuck login which I cannot disconnect. When I attempt to end all processes for that stuck user, it still does not go away and I need to reboot the VM which kicks everyone off.

I am running the latest patches but I find that I have to restart the VM at least 3-4 times a week to allow our users to use their remote app when they work from home.

What could be causing this issue?

RDS webpage not accessible from the internet. Works internally...

Hello!

We have (4) rds servers with the following roles installed:

rds1 : RD Gateway

rds2: RD Connection Broker, RD Licensing , RD Web Access

rds3: RD Session Host

rds4: RD Session Host

The prior it engineer did something and the webpage of the rds servers are not accessible from the internet anymore. It is accessible only internally. I checked the firewall that we use and the static ip from the provider points to the server internally using NAT. What else i have to check? Maybe the windows firewall? Could you please through me some ideas?

Thank you in advance!

Start a program when remote desktop starts

Hello to all,
I have two servers, one running Windows 2019 Datacenter Server and a Windows Sever 2019 Standard, new just installed.
The first is a DC and the second is a remote desktop host and domain member.
To remotely connect desktop you should open a program that when it is closed also close the connection in remote desktop.
To do so I did what I always did with Windows Server 2008 that is set in the user's DC the program to start in the "Environment" as this (sorry is Italian but I am Italian).
But the program does not start and log on to the server, which users should not do.
Someone gives me a hand to understand what is wrong please? Thanks!

Windows Search changes in Server 2019 RDS

Hi,

So nothing like being on the cutting edge......

I have been testing Server 2019 RDS and so-far-so-good apart from an issue with the Windows Search Service.

It appears that in Server 2019 each user gets their own search database EDB file in their profile path (appdata\roaming). e.g.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb

When they log on and log off; this is connected to the search service and the following event log is generated

Source:ESENT
EventID: 326
SearchIndexer (10896,D,50) S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629: The database engine attached a database (3, C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb). (Time=0 seconds)

Unfortunately it appears that this process is not very stable and on some logons the database in the users profile does not attach and the following error is generated

Source:Search
EventID: 3057
The plug-in manager <Search.TripoliIndexer> cannot be initialized.
Context: S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629 Application

Source:Search
EventID: 3028
The gatherer object cannot be initialized.
Context: S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629 Application, SystemIndex Catalog
Details: The specified object cannot be found. Specify the name of an existing object.  (HRESULT : 0x80040d06) (0x80040d06)

And a few more similar but related errors....

No subsequent logon/off will succeed in attaching the database until the Windows Search service is restarted

I am not testing with User Profile Disks or Roaming Profiles
There is no AV on the server

Any ideas?

How can I allow access to remote apps without allowing full access to remote desktop?

$

Hi,

I have Remote desktop services set up and running. Everything currently works, but it's not how I'd like it to work...

Essentially it seems that the deployment requires that the users who are set to have access to a remote app are also required to be in the Remote Desktop Users group on the server where the remoteapp runs. This unfortunately allows the user to login to the remote desktop to use the desktop beyond just having permission to use the remote app. How can I get it set so the user can only use the remote app and not be able to log onto the remote desktop of the server?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello,

We have RDP 2016 infrastructure and session broker is configured with HA. We have set up a database for the Connection Broker on Azure SQL Database.

My question is?

1. how we can move the SQL data/server from one azure account to another azure account?

2. If we point the the data base for the connection broker to another azure account without migrate the existing data base what exactly will happen?

Windows server 2019 - set different language for multiple users

Hi Technets,

I have a question like that. How to set the user display language English?

For example, I want 10x users on the remote desktop to have the display language Czech and the second language English.

Is this possible? When you download the English package and display changes, this changes across the W-SVR, but not on the user.

Or. how to do via GPO? Do you have experience?

Thank you in advance.

It just seems to me that on those W-SVR 2019 nothing works, as on W2016.

Thank you.

Ben Caha.

Dear All,

I have an application compiled in VB6. I used windows 2008 R2 RDP server for many years and everything works. We decided to upgrade to Windows 2012 R2 terminal services, the only problem we have now is that mouse scrolling is not working on this application with windows 2012 R2. If i open the application directly on server console without remote desktop, mouse scrolling works. Can anyone help me on this?

Windows Server 2016 and High Availability Remote Desktop Services with thin clients

$

Hello,

I need to find a way on how to configure two redundant Window Server 2016 servers, in a way that for the thin client it is transparent which of them is really active to grant the Remote Desktop Service session. The thin client would not know which of the two servers he would be physically connected to. If this server fails, the other server will continue to grant the session to the thin client without this noticing any interruption.

In principle I will not run any virtual machine. The software that I use will be installed in the real machines.

Can you please suggest how this could be done?

Thanks in advance.
