Slow login with RDWeb applications and RemoteApps

Hello,

I'm having a problem with a newly created 2008 R2 RDS Farm. Full desktop logins are fast for remote users (under 10 seconds), but RemoteApps and RDWeb apps take about 30 seconds to load (once loaded, subsequent apps load in 2-3 seconds). The details button is greyed out for about 25 seconds while waiting for the app to load and then when it is finally becomes enabled, the app loads in about 3 seconds.

The RDS setup consists of:

1 Gateway server
1 Connection Broker/License server
2 Session Host/RDWeb servers

I have tried the following:

-Unchecking "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses" under the session host settings in RemoteApps manager on both session host servers
-Disabling UAC on all servers (oddly enough this seemed to increase the login time)
-Disabling client device redirection

Nothing has improved the speed. Any other suggestions? Thanks

RD Web Access thru RD Gateway single sign on problem

Hi folks,

I appreciate a lot any help to my issues with RD web access externally through RD gateway. I have searched quite a lot but do not seem to find suggestions that could solve my problem.

My setup is a very simple one server (domain member of an internal domain) installed with all the RD services rolls (RD web access, RD gateway, RD session host, no RD session broker). The server has internal domain name and IP. A fire wall is setup at the edge of internal domain, which only pass through port 443. The fire wall captures an external FQDN with fixed IP and passthrough https request to the RD server in the internal domain.

The RD server (RD web access, RD gateway, RD session host) uses a self-generated certificate to sign everything (RD gateway certificate, Remote Apps, RD session host). the certificate is issued to the external FQDN, which is publicly accessible/routable/registered DNS name/IP.

Now I have installed this particular certificate also on my client pc under trusted root certification authority. I have no problem to connect to https://FQDN/RDWeb, being asked the RDWeb credential (internal domain admin credential). the Remote Apps list properly. If I click an App, I am asked the credential of RD gateway server. with my internal domain  admin credential, I have no problem to launch RemoteApps.

My issue is: how can I make single sign on to work. I read at microsoft guide stated that single sign on only works for client and server joined to the same domain. is this the case?

Please advice. What I have missed, or what I could do to make SSO work?

Thanks a lot.

RDweb gatewayhostname:s:

Dear reader,

I have a rd gateway 2012r2 with several rds2012r2 servers and session collection. The domain where these servers reside is customer.domain.local.

When connection from the internet to rdweb the url is hostname.domain.nl/rdweb. A valid certificate *.domain.nl is installed on the gateway server. The name of the gateway server is gw.customer.domain.local.

After a user logs on to the rdweb and clicks a file for his session collection, he gets the prompt that the gateway server cannot be found. Opening the rdp file the "gatewayhostname:s:" is set to gw.customer.domain.local. This can offcourse not be opened from the internet.

Where did I go wrong? Cannot seem to find where I can tell the gw server to change it's url from gw.customer.domain.local to gw.domain.nl. The whole system is only being used from the internet. Now i download the rdp file and edit it and give it to the user.

Best regards,

Ruud Boersma

SBS 2003 RDP console session will not logout

We have an old SBS 2003 server on our test network which gets hacked about and rebuilt as needed.  After this latest rebuild it has started doing something a bit odd.

We can start an RDP console session and login as a user in the Domain Admins group fine and logout again. If we start an RDP console session and login as Administrator we can't logout of the session. The Logoff is logged in the Security event log but no logout occurs. The session remains open and active.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before and know a fix please?

Thanks

George

How to limit number of conncurrent remoteapp sessions

Hello,

I am trying to limit the number of concurrent remoteapp (rds) sessions to published programs in windows 2012. The issue is that the number of users exceeds the number of licenses. Also, is this possible in App-V?

Thank you in advance

RDS per device CAL issued to "unknown" or "WindowsCE"

Hi there - first things first - I did a lot of research and found no solution, so I am opening up this question though the subject might sound familiar.

Recently we migrated our Terminal Server infrastructure from Server 2003 to Server 2008R2 (not to 2012 because of an special application...we all know that one I think). The setting stayed the same in principle: On server serving as terminalserver (or RDS session host as it is called now), the licensing server is installed locally on the same server. We have appr. 30 Windows CE clients (5.0 and 6.0) connecting to it, with approx. 50 users working with the clients so we stayed with "Per Decive" CALs.

The Licensing server is configured fine (set to "per device", the licence server is configured and activated, licences installed...), someday I recognized that all of our permanent licenses are already issued and the server also issued above 600 temp. licenses so I started researching. The first thing that cought my eye was the fact the in the "issued to" column of the licensing manager most of the licences (permanent and temp.) are issued to "WindowsCE" and "Unknown". So I renamed alll of our Windows CE Clients (Datalogic Skorpio X3 by the way, we also have some older Datalogic Scanners) and rebuilt the RD licensing database. No luck, the server started issuing licenses to "unknown" and "WindowsCE" again. So I thought of DNS issues because the licensing server is not able to resolve the Hostnames of the scanners. As a test I resetted a client device, renamed it again, manually set up DNS records for it and tested it again - still no luck.

Any ideas?

THX in advance

Michael

SPLA License with Windows 2012

Hi all,

I just have a question regarding Remote Desktop Services licensing for Server 2012.

Does anyone know how the 2012 licensing server works with the SPLA license?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Accessing RDS VDI Collection

After some misc. issues I now have a Windows 2012 R2 RDS VDI setup configured with 2 collections - Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.  I am able to get to both of these just fine via RDWeb, but can't seem to figure out how to get to them via Remote Desktop.  Is that possible?  I want to provide clients with an RDP shortcut and just go from there.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Modify OU that a pooled VDI collection deploys to?

All,

When you initially create a new pooled VDI collection, you need to specify which OU to create the VDI machine accounts in. I'm trying to figure out a way that I can modify the OU field in the properties of an existing pooled VDI collection. The field in greyed out in Server Manager, so I am unable to change it. I've also investigated using the Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration cmdlet, but it does not allow me to change this field.

Someone found a sort of wonky solution to this issue, but it has some interesting caveats and I'm not comfortable with the solution he proposed: social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/d2d25c07-fc64-42f8-8147-94a653536188/changing-virtual-desktop-collection-properties-that-aare-grayed-out?forum=winserverTS

Does anyone have a solution, other than creating a new VDI pool from the same image?

Enable more than two concurrent sessions in Server 2012 r2

Hello,

I have setup RDS on Server 2012 R2 with the following roles:  (RD Connection Broker, RD Session Host, RD Gateway, RD Licensing, RD Web Access).  My sole purpose for this setup was to enable this server and only this server to allow more than 2 concurrent RDP connections.

Here is some background information:

1.  I will not be using RemoteApps or the Web access, I only only need to RDP into this server with more than 2 concurrent connections.

2.  The licensing server is activated and I have a 50 user CAL installed on it. It has issued licenses to 3 users that have logged into the server while I was looking at the Web site features.  So I know the licensing is working properly.

3.  This server does reside in a domain but I'm looking to have everything self contained on just the one box.  I do not want to put anything on my domain controller or a separate machine.

4.  Everything looks to be fully configured in all of the roles.  I have no warnings about things not being configured correctly.

5.  When I attempt to login with a 3rd user to this system, it still prompts to have me remove one of the previous 2 sessions.

I know I must be looking right past the setting or it is in a very convoluted space, but how do I enable this server to allow more than 2 RDP sessions?  I've made the change in group policy for (Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections\Limit number of connections) to 50 but this still not seem to correct the problem.

Thanks for any answers you can provide,

Fred Levario

How to show a network disconnection immediately without user interaction

Hi

We use RDP to show different applications from some servers on a monitor wall. Server and clients are both Windows Server 2008 R2.

If a network connection between RDP server and client fails (e.g. LAN disconnected), there is no special alert at the client until a user interaction (mouse click) takes place (and about +30 seconds).

Is it possible to show such a disconnection immediately without user action?

Thanks!

RDS and Office 2010 language settings with GPO

On a RDS server I'm trying to set user language with a GPO. It works for OS language, but not for Office 2010. I have checked that GPO is applied correct (Resultant set of policy) to the users in question, but language is not changed to what the GPO states.

Any help will be appreciated

Thx!

Allow single user two sessions in windows 2012r2

Hi,

How we can enable two remote desktop session for single user in windows 2012R2.

Thanks

Unable to configure the RD Session Host server

 Hi,
although it seem not to have any impact
(once script executed, the VM is added to the RDS Deployment and shows up as member of the correct RDS collection), I'd want to find what's causing this error to show up and fix it.

I'm encountering the below error at the end of a remote desktop session Host "2012 R2" deployment powershell script.

I'm using a VM Template where RDS role is alreay preinstalled
plus a couple of applications (SCOM Agent / antivirus client )

powershell script that :
- create the AD object on a specific "OU" for the required RDS collection
- creates the VM
(VM is attached to the domain during VMware VM customization step witch is based on sysprep...)
* add the VM to the rds deployment
* adds the VM to the specified rds collection

The error below appears when I try to add the VM into the collection

#add the server to the remote desktop deployment

Add-RDServer-Server$serverFQDN-Role"RDS-RD-SERVER"-ConnectionBroker$activebroker

#add RDSH server to the collection

Add-RDSessionHost -CollectionName$collection-SessionHost$servername -ConnectionBroker$activebroker #-ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

Windows 2012 Remote desktop session host server not detecting RD licensing server

Hi,

We have a customer server which is Windows 2012. We installed RDS session host server role and configured it to use RD licensing server as per thehttps://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839?wa=wsignin1.0

After configuring, when I open RD license diagonser tool, it says, RD license server is not available. Also shows, credential not available. When I enter the credential by clicking, provide credentials, it does not get applied. I see no event logs related to RD service. However, I see the below event log which points to RD licensing server.

DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer <RD license server> using any of the configured protocols; requested by PID     273c (C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe).

Please help in fixing the issue.

Thanks,

Umesh

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

Any way to increase RemoteFX Video Memory?

Fairly direct question here, is there a way to manually increase the video memory allocated to a VM? We are running some applications that require more than the 320mb it seems to be allocating, is there a registry key or some way for us to control this manually?

We are using a C410X with 16x nVidia Tesla cards. We have a metric ton of horsepower, but no way to allocate it properly.
