We have two Remote Desktop Server session hosts running Windows Server 2012 R2. We have group policies applied to the session hosts redirecting folders and creating roaming profiles on a network file share (one share for redirected folders, one for roaming profiles). Both sessions hosts are running the Click-to-Run version of Office 2013 through Office 365. Users are unable to save many settings in Word. For example:
* The window size for Word always reverts to the same (too small) size every time Word is closed.
* Advanced options for Track Changes cannot be saved from one session to the next (e.g. the width of the comments panel)
* Changes that should be saved to normal.dotm, such as the font for Normal style, are not saved.
In fact, if I rename normal.dotm in %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates, Word does NOT create a new one. I checked to see if there might be a workgroup template, but there is no file location listed for workgroup templates in Options > Advanced > File Locations.
Some Word settings ARE saved from session to session. For example, if I remove an add-in from Word, it will stay removed.
The redirected folders and roaming profiles generally are working. For example, any changes I make to the desktop on session host 1 appear if I connect to session host 2.
It doesn't seem to be permissions-related, as I have no trouble modifying the contents of %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates (i.e. \\server\share\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates) or even the registry (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Data).
The implementation of redirected folders and roaming profiles is relatively new in this organization. I am pretty sure we were not having this problem when we had only a single session host and local profiles, but I am not 100% certain that the problem happened as soon as we added the second session host and the group policy.,
