Hi!

May i ask, how to enable simultaneous Remote Desktop Connection on a non domain server? Thanks!

The RD Connection Broker server is not available or the relevant services are not running

I currently have a single RDS server, running on Windows Server 2012 with the following RDS role services installed:

RD Licensing
RD Web Access
RD Gateway
RD Connection Broker
RD Session Host

The problem I'm having doesn't occur consistently but it's annoying to say the least.  At times when I go into the Server Manager to manage various aspects of RDS such as looking at what users are currently connected, I get the following error:

"The RD Connection Broker server is not available or the relevant services are not running"

I check and find that all RDS related services are running just fine, but restarting them doesn't solve the problem.  It takes an actual server reboot in order for this error to go away and then it returns, but there is no set time frame on when this happens as its very random.

No searches on Google have given me a good place to start looking at resolving this, so I'm hoping someone on the forums can give me some help...thanks in advance.

Task you are trying to do cannot be completed because remote desktop services is currently busy

I have an odd issue connecting thin clients to a new 2012r2 RDS Farm.

I have ~200 Wyse thin clients using remote apps to a farm of 5 Term Servers..  Connections work fine, no issues with connectivity.

We are wanting to use a pure RDS environment, so we have provisioned a 2 server farm for testing.  All connectivity is internal.  Thin Clients are in Appliance Mode, so they power on, user logs in, Client starts RDP to server.

At first connection, the trust warning is provided.  If we check the box to not display the message again, this first connection is made, user logs in.  All is good.

When the user logs out, connection is cleared from the collection, and client powers down.

Next login, user logs into client, RDP session starts, message "Task you are trying to do can't be completed because remote desktop services is currently busy".  Note that there is only this test user connecting to servers.  It shows that user has logged into the collection.  At this point, we have to log the user out of the collection, and have them reboot the client.

Now at the above mentioned Trust warning, if we do NOT select the "do not ask..." box, and it displays the warning, we select continue, it makes the connections without issue.  So we only receive the message if we select the "Do not ask for future connections" button.

I am at a loss.  I am NOT a term server guy, and my consultant that has done our original setup here, and the new setup is stumped as well.

Any help appreciated!

James

Windows Server 2012R2 - Users cannot change an expired password via RDP in Windows, rdesktop Linux works perfectly

I realize this question/issue has been raised before. I have read the following thread regarding this:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/677b39dd-8595-4334-b7e5-387c8ff230ec/can-users-change-expired-passwords-via-rdp-to-windows-server-2012-r2-windows-81-if-nla-is?forum=winserverTS

First, the workarounds (which are a poor course of action to take due to lowering security) have not worked for me.

Second, I can confirm that this problem does NOT happen when using another remote desktop client. I have tried 'rdesktop' from a Linux machine, and everything works properly. Users are presented with an option to reset their passwords if expired right in a remote desktop session.

Network Level Authentication is disabled. Given that another operating system (and RDP application) does not have this problem, a registry 'hack' should be unnecessary to resolve this. Has there been any acknowledgement from Microsoft of this problem and is there a fix in the works?

Problem with printer drivers

Hi,

I have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server server. Clients connects to it with RDP, to use Office applications and view PDF Files. The server has a number of different printer drivers installed. For example:

- HP Laserjet 500

- HP color Laserjet 200

- HP Universal Printer Driver PCL5.

And about ten more drivers.

Clients connect to server and have diferent printers, each with each driver. The problem is that, whatever model of printer the client has, with whatever driver it has installed, the mapped printer in the server takes the HP 500 Driver. So every single printer mapped in the server, is being mapped with the HP 500 driver, despite the server has installed the correct driver for all the printers.

How can I achieve that if I use in a client a printer which driver is installed on the server, the server maps the printer with the correct driver instead of the HP 500?

Server 2012 (Standard, Essentials, Foundation) - Need Remote Access for 2 people

Currently we use a VPN to connect a warehouse to the main office.   The warehouse has two desktops and a large dot matrix printer running off LPT1 (LPT1 is mandatory with this legacy software).

The VPN connection is slowwww with this slow and very fat client.  It is now so slow that it prints two rows of labels, then pauses 15 seconds or so.   Maddening...    (Other software is not being considered right now.)

The question is:   what Windows Server 2012/2016 - Standard, Essentials, Foundations would be the right fit for 2 remote users that could grow to 5 remote users.    Remote Desktop Connector I think is preferred.

(The reason I'm considering RDC is that the database and software would run on the server and only send screen shots / key strokes back to the client instead of the database going back and forth.)

Right?

We don't need DC or A/D for a VM.   Just file and print services.  So a one computer easy easy setup is preferred.

Thanks!

Darryl

Lots of 4625 Errors generated by RD Gateway

Hi all,

I've got a gateway server setup feeding two RDS servers (RDS1 and RDS2) and currently RDS2 is getting tonnes of 6425 errors from the gateway server (App01).

There are thousands of these being generated every day, all different ports, I used ProcMon to trace it back to the tssdis.exe program on App01.

Here's the event:

An account failed to log on.

Subject:
Security ID: NULL SID
Account Name: -
Account Domain:-
Logon ID: 0x0

Logon Type:3

Account For Which Logon Failed:
Security ID: NULL SID
Account Name: APP01
Account Domain:ROBINSON

Failure Information:
Failure Reason:Unknown user name or bad password.
Status: 0xC000006D
Sub Status: 0xC0000064

Process Information:
Caller Process ID:0x0
Caller Process Name:-

Network Information:
Workstation Name:APP01
Source Network Address:192.168.17.11
Source Port: 54185

Detailed Authentication Information:
Logon Process:NtLmSsp
Authentication Package:NTLM
Transited Services:-
Package Name (NTLM only):-
Key Length: 0

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RDS - Session Virtualisation - How to open App in users own desktop

$

Hi Guys
I am hoping to get some clarification.
I am in the middle of deploying a RDS FARM (Session Virtualization) for a client.
I will be presenting a bunch of URL in the "Remote App" page once a user authenticates via the webaccess URL.

I understand when a user clicks on a URL from the Remote App page it fires up a RDP session for the user and hides the RDP window so the user gets a feel that they are using a Web app. But this means, the user is using the RDS Farm resources when they click on the URL.

Question

Is it possible to have a Citrix like experience, ie, when the user clicks on the URL from the Remote app page
rather than opening an IE browser window from the Session Host server the IE session opens from users own desktop?

Thanks in advance
J

Hello,

I have a terminal server at work and it uses from external but also from internal people.

Do not allow Clipboard redirection

For both access, users can't copy from their desktop to remote session.

I would like to know if its possible to allow it for internal access but not from outside.

Thanks for your help,

How to enable verbose logging for event viewer - TerminalServices-SessionBroker

Hi guys,

Struggling to find information on how to enable verbose logging so we can see a Connection Broker redirections happening  in a 2012 R2 RDS farm - in the past someone has enabled it on two of the four CB servers (HA), but we'd like to know how to enable it on the other 2 as we need to plan to migrate to new servers soon and would like to see the connections being redirected to confirm successful migration.

Specifically looking to generate

Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client

ID: 1307

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client successfully redirected the user %1\%2 to the endpoint %3.
Ip Address of the end point = %4

Any help would be appreciated.

Terminal Server loads temp profiles

$

Hi Guys,

We are experiencing an issue with one of our terminal servers were if we have more than 60 connections they all load into temporary profiles. We have done the usual of removing the sid from the profilelist in regedit, Remove the user account folder and we have replaced the default profile many times. It just seems once we have that magic 60 number it refuses to let another load his profile. The server has loads of resources and it's not under any load.

I have a license of 75 per device cals installed so im within my limit. It also shows 4 temporary device cals are issued is this normal?

Its Server 2008 r2.

Sorry any profiles beyond the 60th connection loads into a temporary profile.

I also get these messages even though it says i have 15 licenses available.

The Remote Desktop license server "MSK-TERMSERV-04" does not have any remaining permanent licenses of the type "Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : Per Device CAL (TS or RDS)". As a result, the Remote Desktop license server cannot issue licenses of the type "Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : Per Device CAL (TS or RDS)" to the Remote Desktop Session Host or Remote Desktop Virtualization Host server "MSK-TERMSERV-04". To resolve this problem, verify that the Remote Desktop licensing mode configured on the RDSH or RDVH server matches the type of licenses installed on the Remote Desktop license server. If required, purchase and install additional licenses as needed for this Remote Desktop license server.

Multiple RDS deployments same forest

The setup has:
-2x 2012R2 server with the session host role configured
-1x 2012R2 server with the gateway, webaccess and connection broker installed
-1x domain controller
-1x application server running a SQL database

A application is published on the RD Web Access server, the users are only using the remote app to connect.
-The web access URL: tenant.fabrikam.com
-The gateway URL: tenant.fabrikam.com

The plan is to setup a multitenant environment, the others customers need to access a different domain/URL, for example:  tenant.contoso.com

An option would be to add a second RD Web access website to the existing RD Web Access server, however the preferred way is to add a second RD Web Access server. But the problem is the RD Gateway is also installed on the same server and has the wildcard certificate.

For the reason above i think the best option is to deploy a new RDS infrastructure (Gateway, Web Access, Connection Broker and Session hosts) that uses the same AD domain and is able to use the same application server.

Is it possible to deploy multiple remote desktop services in the same forest?

Server 2008 R2 Default printer problem

$

I have 4 Remote Desktop servers. All are running Server 2008 R2 Datacenter. All connections are run by a broker for load balancing. All of the users use Folder redirection for the user profiles. 95% of my users connect through a thin client device and only a handful of users connect using a PC. When the users log in their default printer changes to the local Docuware Printer PS. It doesn't matter what printer you choose when you log out, the Docuware printer is always default when you log back in. We have been using Docuware for several years and only in the last two months has this been happening. At first it was just one or two users. And now it has spread. My first thought was that there was a GPO that was causing the problem. I have looked and I do not have a GPO that is pointing to a printer. Everything for printers is not configured. I have scoured the internet for answers and only find old info about hot fixes and other garbage. All of my servers are patched to the current release. I am at a loss. Any ideas?

Is there a way to locate my Remote Desktop Licensing Server?

Hello,

Let me give you some context:) I'm new in a company. We have a medium size environment and we still use Server 2003 Terminal Server for user access.

We've added a few 2012 RDS Servers to replace the old TSs and ran into a brick wall with licensing.

As far as I know, there is/was a licensing server hidden somewhere, but I don't know where.

Is there a way to locate that server? A Powershell command maybe?

Or if I connect to a 2003 TS, is there a way to find out who issued its license?

Can't change RDWeb password for non-admin accounts

$

I have enabled the password change option for Remote Desktop Web Services in Server 2008 R2 and applied the necessary hotfixes. I can change admin passwords, but am unable to change any user/non-admin passwords. When I do, I get the following error message:

Your new password does not meet the length, complexity, or history requirements of your domain. Try choosing a different new password.

No matter how complex I make the password, it still gives me that error. I understand that I may be able to change the "Password must meet complexity requirements" group policy option, but is that the only way? Even then, why wouldn't a very secure password work for non-admin accounts?

RDS high availability with two RDS servers

Hello,

Can we use high availability with two servers.

one server hold All RDS server roles(Licence, Session host, Connection Broker, Gateway).

I referred on Internet for guidance. But most articles have provided details to use two or more server for one RDS role.

It's high cost solution and most of organization consider cost effective solution.

If anyone know best cost effective solution, Please provide that.

share same license server for two Windows 2012 RDS environments.

I have a Windows 2012 RDS environment using a licensing server.  Currently, we have 100 RDS CAL being installed on the licensing server.

I just setup another 2012 RDS environment and add the same license server to it and we plan to use 20 RDS CAL out of it.  When I run RD Licensing Diagnoser, I am seeing the number of licenses available for client is still 0.

How do I assign license from that pool?

Please advise.
