Disconnected sessions not being logged off after timeout

Hi all,

Confused with this.  We have a collection which is set to log disconnected sessions after 5 minutes.  This is also set in a group policy.  The brokers are server 2016, session hosts are a 50/50 split between 2016 and 2019 whilst we fully test 2019.  Happening on both 2016 and 2019.

I'm looking at the list of users right now and can see two who have been disconnected an hour ago.

any ideas?

Thanks

Remote audio redirection missing important option

Hello there.

Setup: Windows Server 2019 as host. Multiple Hyper-V guests as clients (windows 8.1)

Connection is done via VMConnect.exe (RDP). Enhanced sessions are enabled on host and clients and all options to redirect audio can be seen and selected.

However one option for a particular scenario is missing. It has been asked on superuser already and can be found by googling "USB microphone on remote desktop doesn't appear/record" (I cannot post links with this account).

The missing scenario is as follows: There are local sound input devices on the installed on the remote clients, like Splitcams microphone or Audio Cable. And they are only visible and usable when selecting "Play audio on remote computer" for the RDP session.

However then the remote clients audio will not playback on the host.

With selection "Play audio on local computer" then there is audio playback on the local computer but the remote input devices are no longer installed.

So what is missing is a way to keep the remote input devices available in the guest but redirect the remote audio playback to the loacal computer. This could be either achieved by installing the audio endpoint for local redirection into a session where "Play audio on remote computer" has been selected.

Or this could be achieved by keeping the remote input devices instead of removing them when "Play audio on local computer" has been selected.

Any workaround or hack to make this work is appreciated.

Issues with home folder redirection on TS environment

Hello everyone, we currently have our users home folders (local/TS) pointed to a location on a 2008r2 server, we want to alter this to point to our 2016 server O and U drive respectively. we altered everyone's home folder path to point to the new one and"remade" the old home folder to a different drive. however, on the local machine when users log in they get both which is expected. but when they log in on the term server they get both drives, but the 2 drives have the same data, as if they are technically the same drive (one should be empty). me being an admin, on the term serv, my 2 drives display correctly. and we made a change to "replace" the O drive in hopes that it would correct the issue (reconnect not checked) now all users local and termserv have no O drive at all. can anyone help me understand why the O and U drive on only the term serv would act like this, also what would be the SOP for making changes like this and or common practice to doing shares like this with the settings in the first place.

RDP connection to Windows XP

Hi there,

I'm connecting to a Windows XP SP3 via RDP and I'm experiencing slow monitor refresh rates whenever no user input is present.
I use a program with an animation and whenever I move my mouse or press a key (like 3-5 per second) the animation runs super smooth. No user input however slows down the animation to a point where I am not able to use the program efficiently anymore.

Is there a way to force the refresh rate to a maximum or to simulate the user input? I don't really want to sit there and spam a key all the time ;)

Thanks in advance,
Jan

RDS High Availability - What should it act like?

Hello,

Setting up a lab, trying to make an RDS farm be "highly available"... but it doesn't seem right.  1st attempt, not sure what to expect (expecting too much?).  My main question is, can I setup RD Web, Gateway, Broker (server 2016) using MS tools to make them HA?  Ignore session host and VDI for now.  Any tips on what I may have done wrong so far?

Scenario
All server roles configured for HA (trying).  Say an external person logs into RD Web, connects to his office PC.  Can I reboot one of the servers in the HA pairs to do maintenance and not effect the RDP session?  I'm fine with a brief pause in service (IE: screen pauses for a second or two while it switches to another node/host).

My Issue

In my lab, when I reboot one of my web/gateway pairs, the RDP session to a PC gets disconnected and cannot reconnect.  HA isn't working it seems.  Or is that only for Session Host sessions in a RDS collection?

My Lab Server Names/Roles
Running on PC with Server2016 Hyper-V Host

  • HyperV Host Virtual Switch is private network for all VMs
  • All VMs running Server2016 (except Win10 VM)
  • AD (ADDS,DCHP,DNS)
  • RDWebGw-01 (RD web access, gateway, NLB unicast)
  • RDWebGw-02 (RD web access, gateway, NLB unicast)
  • RDB-01 (RD broker)
  • RDB-02 (RD broker)
  • RDSH-01 (RD session host)
  • RDSH-02 (RD session host)
  • Win10 PC (also running sql for broker)

Another tidbit.  When the RDP session to the PC is active, I can see the active session in the RD Gateway Manager on only one of the two gateways.  I had thought I should be able to see it on both Gateways, but I was wrong (in my lab).  Seem right to you too?

Error: There are no available computers in the pool

Hi,

We have an issue with Remote Desktop Services on Windows Server 2016 servers (RD Virtualization Host).
There are personal unmanaged Windows 10 machines running on these servers.
When you log on the RD Web website it gives an error:

There are no available computers in the pool. Try connecting again, or contact your network administrator.

The user can login with mstsc onto their machine, but through the RD Web website doesn't work.
Normally the website works fine, but once in a while this issue happens.
This issue is fixed when we reboot the RD Website server.
There are no related errors in the eventlogs.

Anybody any idea?

Thanks,

Windows 10 1903 remote-app repeating keystrokes

Hi,

All our win 10 1903 clients, immediately after been updated from 1803 to 1903 start repeating keystrokes in remote apps. Servers are 2012 R2. RemoteFX cannot be disabled on session hosts servers since that solution causes problems to some of the apps running. Any one facing the same problem ? Any solution?

Windows 10 black screen with remote app

We have started seeing black screens with Windows 10 builds 1709 1803 1809.  The black screens are intermittent and for the most part can be resolved by minimizing and maximizing the remote app.  This leads me to believe this is a screen redraw issue and not a problem with any of the remote apps.

The RDWEB farm is server 2012R2 with 2 gateways, 2 session brokers, 2 web servers.  There are 207 collections with 171 host servers.  Windows 7 w\ rdp 8.1 does not seem to have this issue.

RDS 2016 gateway error event id 312 "The user "abc@xyz.com", on client computer "xx.xx.xx.xx:2985", has initiated an outbound connection. This connection may not be authenticated yet."

When try to connect from public network to RDS 2016 environment web page is loaded, but when try to connect on RDP clinet, it will ask for credentials and after that it will connect to remote machine. Error shows as " your computer can't connect to the remote computer because remote desktop gateway server is temporarily unavailable"

When checking on error log found that even id 312 on gateway server

The user "abc@xyz.com", on client computer "xx.xx.xx.xx:2985", has initiated an outbound connection. This connection may not be authenticated yet.

I tried the registry key fix recommended for 2012 server (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa) and (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\TerminalServerGateway\Config\Core) but no joy. It did not work for 2016 server. Please help.

The Remote Desktop Management service failed to start. Error code: 0x88250001

I have a problem in one Windows Server 2012, where RDMS simply doesnt start, even manually.

This is a secundary server, who dont have a AD controller, it uses a remote one from a primary server.

I tried to remove and install RDMS, removing and creating a new internal DB, but this problem continues.

From,

  • Remote Desktop Connection Broker
  • Remote Desktop Management
  • RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management

Only RDM is disable.

Remote logins are currently disabled for some users when one session host does not allow new connections

Hello,

The scenario: Remote desktop farm with

  • hardware load balancer
  • 2 x RD Gateway
  • 2 x RD Web Access
  • 2 x RD Connection Broker, configured for HA
  • 2 x RD Session host

A single disconnected user is seen in connections for RD Session Host 1 (RDSH01). I logoff the user, and set RDSH01 to "Do not allow new connections". The user is external, and has initially logged on to RD Web Access from external network via load balancer.

Shortly after performing actions above, the user tries to log on again, and gets an error message while launching an application: "Remote logins are currently disabled".

Why is this? The other session host RDSH02 is fully functioning and allows new connections. My understanding was that these actions would redirect the users to the desired session host, but this does not always seem to be the case.

Remote desktop services goes "stale"

Hi there, we are experiencing an issue where we connect to one of our realtime machines and randomly (this happened about a week apart from one another) after you have authenticated, it just goes black and stays that way. I have to reboot the server to get the remote desktop services working again.

I have noticed by logging into the console session on vmware, that after authenticating on the remote desktop client, it doesn't actually connect because my session using the same credentials on the vmware console is still active and untouched.

Here are some errors I see :

An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070102)
&
An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070057)

These logs are also accompanied by Event ID 4005 "The windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated"

I also noticed when I enter the IP for the VM in the remote desktop client and hit enter, the logon screen comes up immediately instead of the couple of ms you normally wait.

Any idea on how to fix this permanently?

Windows Server CAL English 1pk DSP OEI 5Clt User CAL for RDS

Good day, can I use Windows Server CAL English 1pk DSP OEI 5Clt User CAL for my RDS?

Windows Server 2012 RDS CAL with no Active Directory

Hi all,

I have a Windows Server 2012 machine that is not part of a Active Directory. I have purchased 5 CALs (per user) for RDS purposes. Does AD (Active Directory) need to be anyhow involved in this scenario? If so, can I run the AD on the server itself as it is only for 5 users? Can't I just create 5 users without the AD?

help greatly appreciated!

Error: Event ID #21 - RDS CALS does not have remaining permanent license of the type...

Hi,

Got this error (please see image #1) when previous server had hardware problems then transferred the RDS role, license into a new physical server, inside a VM.

Did they solve the bug and issued a hotfixed for this error already? What would be the possible solution for this?

If this helps, please see image # 2. I will try to edit the RDS because they have tempo/built in license in the GPO to acknowledge the valid CALS. Is this a recommended troubleshooting step?

Remote session will end in 60 minutes

It's clean install of Win 2019 server standard.

RDP services are installed, Licensing Server has assigned RDP licenses per User, Licenses are active and valid.

Server is connected to AD and assigned as a licensing server.

Licensing Diagnoser does not show up any problems with licenses, but after logon to remote user is beeing disconnected after 60 minues from RDP

How can check what needs to be repaired ?

Roles and Features List to be removed

Will someone have available the list of Roles and Features to be removed from host server 2012 essentials? It is so that the virtual one created in Hyper-v can be the server. Thank you.
