Windows server 2016 black screen issues
Domain Admins cannot use RDS, but Domain Users can
We have a WS2016 running RDS.
Everyone that has access can open the web page and sign in through the https://...../RDWeb site.
Once in, ALL USERS not in an AD administrative group can then click on an icon, sign in to the second prompt and use the apps.
If I, or any admin, tries to click on an icon on the webpage, it prompts us to sign in, then it gives us an error with the three reasons you need to check for.
All admins can RDP into the same server running RDS, but none of us can go through the web page to do it.
I found something online saying to change the local GP, which we did, but that didn't work either (and yes, I forced the GP to update on the server).
Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks beforehand, because this is a tad annoying that no one in IT can use the services, but all regular users can.
Alert from Microsoft Forum
Black screen after logging in on Windows Server 2012 R2
After a while users immediately get a black screen after logging in on a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine with RDP.
In some cases, the black screen is visible for a few minutes, after which the usual desktop is shown.
A work-around that we have found is the removal of the NTUSER.DAT file from the profile of the relevant user.
Unfortunately this is a temporary "solution", because after a while the black screen will be shown again for a longer period of time.
In addition, with NTUSER.DAT removal, all links on the desktop and some user settings are also deleted.
Can someone tell us what the cause is and, most important, what the solution is?

Is it possible to integrate RDWebClient into a custom developed ASP.NET MVC Website?
Or is it possible to authenticate via an ASP.NET Website and stay signed in for the RDWebClient?

Hyper V Cannot reconnect Windows 10 Version 1903
Everything was working perfectly on ALL our VMS. Then the workstations all upgraded automatically to Windows 10 Pro Version 1903 Build 18362.387. My be some other patches that I have not figured out yet. The problem now is when the Connection to the Hyper V Terminal session is lost you cannot get back.
Windows 2016 Version 1607 build 14383.2580
Hyper-V Manager - V10.0.14393.0 - I am not using GraphicsFx on the server
Windows Pro Version 1903 Build 18362.387
So if I disconnect by signing off the machine all is fine and having to log back in to a clean desktop it works fine.
If I drop the connection, use the X to disconnect or select disconnect I have the problem that no one can reconnect that VM Session. I cannot shut the session down from V Manager, I cannot access from VManager... its dead you how to Turn if off and start it again.
If you log off it appears to work fine
This has started happening as the machines where upgraded over the last week. most where updated on Friday and when people came in the office on Monday the problems started to surface.
Based on our tests so far the work around is to sign off and not disconnect but this is not right because if a session is lost or someone wants to leave the office to continue working at home the disconnect will automatically loose everything they have been working on.
Thanks in advance for help
How to reinstall licenses from a damaged DC.
Hello;
I was called to try to solve a BSOD on a Windows 2012 r2 HP server that served as a Domain controller and also has a remote desktop server. The company that sold it is not working anymore and the customer is unable to talk to anyone.
Since this was a 2e2 BSOD, I managed to go to Directory Services Restore Mode after 5 hours but I could do anything: the previous successful backup was from April, Windows Server couldn't repair the DC. I was able to get the Server ID from the Remote Desktop license manager and I had to format and install everything again due to the fact that it serves as a basis of 6 remote stores.
At this point I have only this Server ID: the key to activate Remote Desktop CAL's was not supplied to my customer and it seems to me that it was an OEM product.
Is there a way of solving this besides buying new ones?
Thanks.
Need assistance
I am trying to setup with "Specify RD Virtualization Host server"
I get the following error:
You will not be able to proceed with the installation unless all the following criteria are met:

-The server mustbe running at least Windows Server 2012. (it is Windows Server 2012 (Check))
-The currently logged on user must be a member of the local Administrator group on the server.
-The server must have hardware-assisted virtualization.
-The server must not have a pending restart.
RDS User CAL for 2 RDS platforms in different windows edition
Dear Sir,
We have setup 1 RDS platform in windows 2016 and would set up a new one for windows 2019 for the test and migration.
Since 40 x User CAL was purchased in Windows 2019 but they are already activated in Windows 2016.
Can we reactivate them in Windows 2019 after the migration?
If we keep 2 editions of RDS platforms running in same Domain for 100 users,
Do we need to purchase 100 new Users CAL for Windows 2019? Or we just get 60 new User CAL + existing 40 User CAL?
Any advice is much appreciated...
Windows 2012 Server: Can't print from a SyteLine6/Progress9 session
For my application SyteLine6 running on Progress9 db, I have to use the UNC printing method.
This works for W2K & W2K3 server but not for W2K8 & above.
The obvious fix is to upgrade to Progress 10 but I can't do that with this software.
Get the following Progress Error message when running on W2K12 Server where both f&P server name and Printer name are shared.
** Unable to open file: \\fpserver\printer. Errrno=2. (98) **
If someone has developed a work around I would be very grateful.
Cheers

Remoteapp gives update error
We have encountered an error with a random user sometimes losing connection to remoteapps running on a server 2016.
When we try to update the connection on the workstation it gives the error message "Update failed" and "Errorcode 0x80070020, 0x0".
After restarting the workstation remoteapp connection works again. Can't find much in the event logs on the server.
Enable more than 2 RDP sessions for admins on 2019 servers
We have 2x Server 2019 servers. We are trying to setup 2 separate severs for management tasks within our team. For example, the 1/2nd line team to connect to Server1 and 3rd/4th line team to connect to Server 2. Each of these server will usually have more than 2 concurrent RDP Sessions.
For Server1, i have installed the following roles:
RD Connection Broker
RD Session Host
RD Web Access
I have setup a collection for users of Server1, with the RD Licensing set to our CA
For Server2, i have installed the following roles:
RD Session Host
RD Web Access
(Does this need the Connection Broker role?)
Each one should be separate in terms of RDP, so is a connection broker necessary?
The aim is to just enable more that 2 cocurrent logins from each IT Team to connect to their server.
Any suggestions? We have enough CALs.

RDS 2019 + KB4519338 Roaming Start Menu fails
Cross-post from here, where I was redirected to this forum.
We have a bunch of Server 2019 RDS machines, that until last weekend worked fine. For roaming the start menu we roam AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\CloudStore and so far that worked perfectly for having for examples Tiles saved that users put in the start menu themselves.
Since installing KB4519338 this weekend during our maintenance, the start menu is not working anymore. Only right-click works, but the start menu itself is not functional. We all know the start-menu terror from Windows 10 syspreps and what not. When I remove AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\CloudStore from roaming, the start menu works again, but of course customizations aren't saved. We've tried roaming AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches as well, as that's to be seen in some howto's, but we've never found that to be needed, and it doesn't help here either.
Anyone else with this issue? By the way the latest as of yet KB4520062 does not fix this either, even if that has some start menu fixes.
Terminal Server Licensing Service on windows server 2016 won't stay running
Hi to all,
In my environment I have a Windows server 2016 that acts as license manager for some other windows 2016 server and some windows 2019 servers.
The problem is that the Terminal Server Licensing Service keeps failing: sometimes it takes a few days for the services, sometimes it happens after an hour.
When that happens, whenever a user tries to login to one of the TS served by the license manager, he receives messages that says " Remote desktop license Issue: There is a problem with your Remote Desktop license, and you session will be disconnected in 60 minutes. Contact your administrator to fix this problem".
That's the error I see in the event viewer:

Office 2016 asks users to reboot server
Hi,
I have a RDS 2016 setup with two session hosts and one broker / licensing server. On the session hosts I've installed Office 2016. Users report they get a popup message from office on de session host servers.
Translation of message below;
You need to restart the computer to finish the Office 2016 standard installation. Other users are logged in to this computer etc. etc. Would you like to restart this computer? YES / NO.
How can I get rid of this message?
Issue to give access to RDP for Admins users
Hello,
i have an issue to give access to RDP to my admins account.
I have :
Pierre Dupont, Member of Monsieur K Administrateurs, who is member of Administrators et SVC_RDS. SVC_RDS is member of Remote Desktop Users.
In addition i created a GPO to allow access to RDP

Could it have conflict between GPO and Users/Groups Manager ?
Thank you for your help.
