RemoteFX: Guest OS Driver Unknown

$

Installed a Sapphire AMD FirePro V5900 GPU in a HyperVisor server with a Xeon E5504 and running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, so the HyperVisor is working and Hyper-V manager recognizes and attaches the RemoteFX 3D Video adapter to the guest VM correctly. All guest additions are enabled for the VM also.

However, the guest VM (a terminal server also running 2008 R2 Standard) does not recognize the RemoteFX driver, still using the default VGA driver and now showing two "unknown" devices. I've looked through many forum posts and Microsoft's technet library, but it seems every issue is related to compatibility (which we have) or having RemoteFX enabled in the HyperVisor (which we've done). What is going on here?

Please tell me what CALs I need to do mstsc of WinServer

I have recently purchased windows server and now wants to purchase some user CALs. Few users will do mstsc of WinServer from within the premises and few customers will do the mstsc from remote location, a different city. Remote user will login via internet connection into the LAN and then do mstsc of WinServer.

Please tell me exactly what products has to be purchased to facilitate this. I have zeroed in on the below:

1. WinSvrCAL 2012 SNGL OLP NL UsrCAL

2. WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL 2012 SNGL OLP NL UsrCAL

If this is correct, then please guide on how exactly this works? For example, The user doing mstsc from within premises requires item 1 only and users doing mstsc
from different city requires item 2 only, or both 1 and 2 is required in both case.

The terminal server services gives a countdown of 120 days from date of installation and ultimately expires and all connections thru mstsc stops. And then the server is reinstalled. So one major concern is whether purchase of these CALs will stop this inconvinience for ever?

Please reply asap. CAL requirement is very urgent but can not proceed unless this clarity comes from you.

Running multiple copies of an app

Hi everybody,

I hope you can help me.

I am running RDS on server 2012r2 and have installed an application on the Session Host.

When the first user connects they can run the app. When the second user connects and tries to run the app it says the app is already running.

Is there a way to isolate these instances so it is separate for each user?

Thanks Richard

Disable UPD for Admin users

I was wondering if it is possible to disable UPD for users that do not log in to the session Collection.

My admin users are receiving an UPD even thou they are not logging in to the session collection, they are logging in to the member Server over RDP.

from pure design point of view this seems to be a miss-configuration in Terminal Services.

When an admin logs in to the server via RDP the UvhdShareUrl setting should be ignored.
Session collection name "xyz Desktop"

Reason for changing this is that we are billing the customer for the used space and the Admin user UPD is using a lot of space.

I implemented a workaround that deletes all admin UPD before the billing process starts.

I hope that there is a nicer way to sotve this.

RDS 2012R2 RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason= 4360)

We're getting random disconnects on one of our RDS 2012R2 Session Hosts. Client machines that get disconnected all have the same Event ID 1026 disconnect reason under TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore: RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason= 4360). I can't find any information on this disconnect reason, so I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Based on some searching, it appears this might be network related, but, again, I don't know because I can't find any information on these disconnect reason codes.

A couple other bits of information:

1. On the session host itself under TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager, the Event ID 40 disconnect reason is always the same as well: Session xx has been disconnected, reason code 0.

2. All clients connect internally through the RDWeb portal. We have no Gateway at this point.

Remote desktop connection limit in windows 2003 administration as well as in the mixed environment of windows 2003 and 2008 servers

RDP protocol i.e. Remote desktop connection is configured to perfrom and manage  software administration of ORACLE application and database servers which runs on windows 2003 server.   Two sessions are allowed on each of these servers for database administrators. The question is:

a) if network administrators who perform window server administration (50+) are included in2 sessions limit or do they manage all these servers through Console Session which is separate from the remote desktop connection limits of 2 sessions.

b) How is the 2 sessions  limit prescribed by microsoft (more of a licensing limit) handled in the mix environment of windows 2003 and 2008 server where all these servers are managed on the VMWARE?

how to disable RD Connection broker load balancing

Hi All,

I have a RDS Farm with 1 RD broker and 2 session host servers on windows server 2012 R2.

I want to disable RD Broker load balancing but still want to use broker for managing broker the sessions centrally.

Is it possible to have broker only manage connection table for re connection of existing sessions and the load balancing part done with F5 load balancer?

Somehow broker is not doing the load balancing for NATed IP.

Abhishek

Rename RDWeb or Session Collection Folder

Good Day Everyone,

There has got to be an easier way to rename a folder in your session collection rather than unpublishing all the applications and removing the folder and re-publishing the applications to the newly named folder.

Anyone know how to change a published folder name in a session collection for rdweb?

All -

I have a 3 server farm, 2 boxes are the same 1x 2.2ghz proc 16gb mem, the other box is 2x 2.2ghz with 32gb ram.  What would be the correct weight assignment for this scenario?  I am currently going 75/75/100.  Is this correct?  Obviously I want more users on the server with more resources.

RDS License to issue license only to a given group of session hosts

Hi all,

I've a new deployment of Windows Server 2012R2 RDS, session virtualization.

I wish that my license servers (I've 2 license servers) will only issue license to my session hosts server (I mean the new SH 2012R2) and not to any other session host in the ad, is this possible?

Reducing the number of Remote Desktop Licensing Per-User CAL's ?

$

We have a client with a set of servers running Remote Desktop Licensing Manager (offhand I don't recall if this is a 2008 or 2012 environment but I assume process should be similar either way)

We provide the license to our client through our SPLA, and the type is "RDP Per User CAL". We have a Service Provider License Agreement with Microsoft and an "agreement number" that we enter when setting up the Remote Desktop License Server, using the  "Install Licenses Wizard"

A certain quantity were initially installed, they now want to cut back on the number of per-user CALs.

Microsoft's online docs seem to be really lacking here, I found no info on reducing the number of installed CAL licenses. I think I vaguely recall once finding a doc that indicated that you have to completely tear down your Remote Desktop License Server and set it up from scratch to enter a different amount of User CAL's?  Can this be right it seems utterly ridiculous.

Is there a way to reduce the number of CAL's?  (and how, as have never seen anything in the GUI for this).

Or do we really need to remove the Remote Desktop Licensing server and reconfigure it like brand new just to set a different number of CAL licenses? (and if so, what happens to existing user access in the meantime. There's be a delay from when the admin of these servers uninstalls or removes the licensing server to when we log in to enter our agreement number and new # of Cal's, as we don't give our customers our agreement number.

Screen elements disappear in Internet Explorer

Hi

We have a HTML5 application and got a report that certain screen elements disappears after a while when running in Internet Explorer (the problem is not reproducible in Chrome). There is for example a row of menu elements that suddenly doesn't show. When the mouse is moved over a menu item, it appears again.

To reproduce, I deployed a new 2012 R2 terminal server by using the "Quick Start" option in the Add Roles and Features Wizard. I then published the app (running in IE) and got five people to just click around in the app until things started to disappear (usually within a few minutes). The app is quite CPU intensive (JavaScript), so the CPU usage is usually between 80-100% on the test machine.

We have never heard of this happening with people running it on their own machine or through RDP.

I don't have much experience with TS 2012 so any tips on any configuration changes, troubleshoot tips etc will be much appreciated.

Can't add appsFolder.itemdata-ms into UPD

Hello.

I have 2012R2 RD farm.

I created start screen layout and exported setting via export-startlayout. xml file are published via GPO and applies sucesfully.

When I configure UPD I need to include only needed folders. Not All profile. Desktop, documents, registry etc. It is works fine. But when I add  %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolder.itemdata-ms to UPD? when user logged in to the server I got temporary  profile and this message in the eventlog:

Remote Desktop Services could not apply a user desktop for a user account with a SID of UVHD-S-1-5-21-2019638452-452341037-308554878-101551. A temporary profile was enforced for the user. Verify that the user profile disk settings are correct. The error code is 0x8.3

When I add all folder %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\  All work fine.

When I do not add this file in to profile, I get good (my customized) start screen in after first login only. After other login I have default profile.

What I can do with it? I need both features.

Hi we have an application that need that another application is started in the background when the user logon on to the RSH through the published application. The application is defined in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

But when  the user start a published application it don’t start any application that is in the Common startup or in the Registry RUN Key and no errors are find.

But when we logon the user on a desktop instead (on the same server) all application that is in the common startup and in the RUN key will start.

Is there a way to launch application that should be lunched that are in the startup or in the RUN key when we use published applications (Remote App).

Remote Desktop Gateway, can't connect from RDP 8.0 (Server 2012)

I'm racking my brain, I've done this before but I'm doing this in another lab environment . Non-Domain computers (Outside) trying to RDP in via the Gateway (Domain-Internal is working).  Certs aren't an issue as they're installed, I've tried it multiple ways, but for now I'm using the self signed generated via the RD Gateway manager.  I can go to https://rdgatewayurl/rpc and authenticate and get a blank page (external and internal).

New Domain, 2k8R2 Functional Level, no real GP customization at all, except not requiring NLA and enabling RDP on the internal "servers" in a specific OU.  My Account has Admin privileges on all the servers in question.

Another stupid question: This should also work with just the RD Gateway role installed, right?  I've tried it both ways with no luck.

RD Gateway is logging Event 4625 in the Security Log.  I feel like this should be obvious but my brain is fried.

An account failed to log on.

Subject:
	Security ID: NULL SID

	Account Domain: -

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
	- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
	- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
	- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

We set up a RDS hosts cluster earlier this year.

I did set up in Group Policy to give 14 days' warning to change passwords.

Today we discovered it does not work -- people could not log in etc.

How do we make RDS hosts et al. warn people to change their passwords??

Thank you, Tom

Hi

I need help - desperately

I keep getting this error time and time again on Server 2012 R2 when trying to install Remote Desktop Services.

the server has been promoted to domain controller and other than that nothing else has been done.

Cannot find anything regarding this error on the server 2012 R2 all on the internet  (there is an article for Server 2012 though, but hot fix does not apply to R2)  , and my previous post has been all but ignored.

Not Able to Take PC in Remote

$

I have two Windows server (Windows 2007 server and Windows 2003 server ) connected to each other by OFC cable. The purpose of my application is to take Windows 2003 server PC in remote from 2007 server. I am able to ping, share and access folder from 2007 server machine to 2003 server machine but I am not able to take 2003 server in remote by any means. However I am able to take the 2007 machine in remote from 2003 server machine.

Earlier it was working fine. But then connectivity got lost and we found one core of the ofc cable damaged and then we used another spare core and connectivity was established but we are not able to take the 2003 server machine in remote. Pinging is OK, folder can be accessed, remote desktop related services have been started by services.msc (netlogon service is not getting started though I am not sure whether it is required for remote access), also remote settings in system properties are also ok.

Please help
